Lisa Robin Kelly’s death this week has let to an outpouring of shock and sadness … and in the case of her estranged husband and boyfriend, finger pointing. Lisa Robin Kelly Dies First, Kelly’s boyfriend blamed her estranged husband, Robert Gilliam, for causing the actress – who battled substance abuse problems for years – to relapse. Now Gilliam is hitting back, saying it’s all the boyfriend’s fault. According to Robert, the only reason her beau spoke out instantly after Lisa Robin Kelly died Thursday is because “he’s trying to cover his own ass.” “In the last two weeks, she called me 22 times,” Gilliam says. Gilliam says he offered to help Lisa “get away from him.” He won’t elaborate on why, but says he told her she had to check in to a rehab center closer to North Carolina, where they lived when they were together. Gilliam says Lisa, whose death has been labeled a mystery pending autopsy results, began making arrangements for her to do just that … and then she died. The boyfriend, of course, says this story is totally false. He says Lisa’s demons were the result of the physical and emotional abuse inflicted by – you guessed it – Gilliam, who was convicted of beating her in May. Kelly was also arrested for assault last November following a violent dustup with Gilliam, so it’s hard to take anything he says without a boulder of salt. R.I.P.

She may look like an easy target, but Margaretta Wolf, 96, turned the tables on a would-be robber at her neighborhood grocery store in Wisconsin. Looks can be deceiving, as they say. Having owned and operated her store for 54 years, she wasn’t about to cave to some armed intruder after he ordered her to open the cash register. “I said: ‘I’m not opening that register. That’s it, I’m not opening it. I said have all the Tootsie Rolls you want but I am not opening that cash register,'” she said. The man in the silver mask and carrying a knife continued to give Wolf orders during the robbery attempt Monday, but she was having none of it . “He said, ‘Walk in the back of the store.’ I said, ‘I’m not walking no place, I’m standing right here,’ ” Wolf recounted, then stood her ground even as he pulled a knife. “I said, ‘I’ll press a button and I’ll have somebody here in seconds,'” she said. Wolf said the would-be robber appeared frustrated and confused, looked around, saw a security camera in the corner, then took his knife and fled. Marshfield, Wisc., Police Lt. Darren Larsen said he’s just glad Wolf is okay. “In this instance, certainly again while not recommended with what took place, we’re just very, very happy Marge was not injured,” Larsen told WAOW-TV. Wolf said she has a few words for the suspect if the cops nab him. “What do I say to him? I say I think you got some punishments coming, and it will be a little bit more than scrubbing the floor,” she told her local news. Moral of the story … don’t mess with this granny!
Lea Michele tried. She really did. Aware that Cory Monteith had a history of substance abuse, Michele did all she could to protect her fellow Glee star during the year-plus they dated. According to a TMZ insider, Cory – described as sweet but naive – was surrounded by a ” a zoo of piranhas ” in Hollywood, with danger around every corner. But Michele stood by her man and took the lead in convincing him to attend rehab this spring after his addiction cropped back up. Unfortunately, she could not control Monteith’s behavior in his native Canada, which, as previously reported, contrasted greatly from his actions in Hollywood . He died last Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room after a night out with friends. This same source says Michele was instrumental in arranging Monteith’s cremation and memorial. She took the reins and made it a lot easier on Cory’s mother in the wake of her son’s tragedy. R.I.P.
In a new documentary titled “How to Make Money Selling Drugs,” Eminem opens up about his history of drug abuse, detailing just how low he fell when his substance abuse issues were at their worst. “My bottom was going to be death,” he states in the following excerpt. Marshall Mathers Documentary Excerpt The rapper popped 10 to 20 Vicodin pills per day at one point and explained that his first experience with the drug was enlightening. “[I] didn’t feel any pain. It just kind of numbed things.” Eminem says he would lash out at anyone who claimed he had a problem (“I literally thought I could control it.”), but one overdose put things in perspective. “Had I got to the hospital about two hours later, I would have died,” he said of the incident. “My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything. They were gonna have to put me on dialysis, they didn’t think I was gonna make it.” The artist says he relapsed about a month after this frightening ordeal. “I remember just walking around my house and thinking every single day, like, I’m gonna fucking die. I’m looking at my kids, and like, I need to be here for this.” So he eventually sobered up, acknowledging that it’s been a “learning process” and offered words of advice to anyone in a similar situation: “I would say to anybody, ‘It does get better, you know. It just does.'” The documentary opens on June 29 and also features interviews with Russell Simmons and Woody Harrelson.
Glee star Cory Monteith has checked himself into rehab for substance addiction. Monteith’s rep confirmed to People that the 30-year-old entered treatment voluntarily. “He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.” This is Monteith’s second time in rehab. He admitted in a 2011 interview that he had a substance abuse problem as a teenager and first sought treatment when he was 19. We wish him well in his recovery.
Dean Cain was once engaged to Mindy McCready. A very long time ago. Speaking out for the first time since her suicide, he says she was deeply troubled even 15 years ago, and not just because of substance abuse issues. It was her manipulations and lies that torpedoed their romance, Cain says. “I’m saddened to hear of her passing, but I’m not surprised,” says Cain, 46, echoing the statements made earlier this week by Mindy’s ex Billy McKnight . They lived together and were engaged, but things imploded after a year. Speaking to People in the aftermath of Mindy McCready’s death , Cain sadly – and tellingly – struggled to remember any sort of joy in their relationship: “I can’t paint too pretty a picture. She would start arguments, start drama,” the actor recalls. “It was as if things weren’t allowed to be good.” “She was never abusive or addictive with me, but the red flags were everywhere,” he adds. “I saw all the bad signs and told her to get out.” At the end, Cain fled his own home for a hotel to escape her, because “Everything she did was a manipulation of sorts. She would just get combative.” The single dad (it’s not hers) had severed all ties with McCready. “When I did speak to her, truth didn’t come out,” he said. She was poisonous and not somebody I was going to have in my life or anywhere around my son.” McCready leaves behind two boys, one by McKnight and the other by David Wilson , who died just 36 days before McCready under similar circumstances. “My first thought was of the poor kids. To think about the legacy those boys have been left, it’s just tragic,” Cain said. “All her troubles were self-inflicted. She had everything.” “She was a tremendous talent but everything about it was a waste.”
Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert, is running for a vacant seat in U.S. Congress from their native South Carolina. Colbert Busch is one of two Democrats seeking the seat vacated by Republican Tim Scott, who was appointed to fill the state’s U.S. Senate seat. The resignation of Sen. Jim DeMint led to Scott’s promotion by Gov. Nikki Haley, and a subsequent special election to fill Scott’s seat in the U.S. House. Colbert Bush’s first opponent is Ben Frasier in the Democratic primary March 19. There are said to be as many as a dozen candidates on the GOP side. As for whether her famous brother will aid or hamper her campaign? “I’m not worried. I’m so proud of what he is and what he has accomplished,” Elizabeth told reporters from her campaign office in Charleston, S.C. “But when people see what I have done and they know the work we have done and they know me as a person and a professional, it will be fine.” Stephen Colbert said he plans to support his sister, whom the family calls Lulu, but won’t make mention of her on The Colbert Report … well, probably. “Lulu has a job to do, and that’s run for Congress. I have a job to do and that’s to make jokes,” he said. “I would never use my show to get my sister elected.” “But the fact my sister is running, or that Mark Sanford is running or Teddy Turner is running or Chip Limehouse, who I knew when I was younger, is running …” “Those are all opportunities for my character to make jokes. But I want people to know this is her own thing. It’s not me doing anything,” he says. Mark Sanford is the former South Carolina governor trying to make a comeback after an affair with Maria Belen Chapur derailed his political career. Turner is the son of media magnate Ted Turner. Limehouse, a state representative, is also considered a strong contender for the 1st District seat. The odds are steep for Stephen’s sister in this Republican-leaning state, but she “This is a privilege to be able to do this,” Colbert Busch said. “My gut is telling me, ‘you’re never going to get this opportunity again.’ And you don’t want to turn around as an old woman and say I didn’t try.” She said her desire for public service was forged in her youth and tempered by her life experiences of loss, struggle and professional success. In 1974, Colbert Busch’s father and three of her other brothers – her parents had 11 children, including Elizabeth and Stephen – died in a plane crash. The politically-active Colbert Busch once worked in Washington, D.C., as an intern for then-U.S. Senator Ernest “Fritz” Hollings (D-SC). Starting as a data entry clerk, she worked her way up to become Southeast director of sales and manager for Orient Overseas Container lines. She is now on a leave of absence from her position as the director of business development for Clemson University’s Wind Turbine Drive Testing Facility.
