Figurines Of White Cherub Crushing Head Of Black Angel Removed From Dollar Store Ty James reportedly brought property for $2 million and had a housewarming party that upset her new neighbors. They called the police and complained of drugs, alcohol, semi-nudity and up to a thousand people showing up. WSB-TV reports one resident named Amy Baker complained, “We called the police and told them there were people walking through the neighborhood with open containers of alcohol and with drugs. And they told us they could not do anything about that. They said, ‘We have to see it.’” Another resident named Katherine Schendel said, “There was a lot of seminudity and drugs and alcohol out in the streets. There were cars parked all up and down our street. On both sides of our street, potentially blocking emergency vehicles from getting through.” She also claimed  to have “checked and the county does not show a permit for a public event at the house.” The next party is allegedly scheduled for Labor Day, which they want to stop. “We’re concerned about our property values. They don’t need to be walking down the middle of the street in thongs and smoking dope,” Schendel said. Gwinnett police are meeting with residents and looking into their complaints. 11 Alive reports, “The owner of the property, Ty James, said no one was arrested, and there was no reason to call police. She said no one was charged to attend, and the party was open to the public, so they neighbors should have stopped by. ” James did not want to go on camera but maintained her guests were respectful. See the news clip below, which includes images from the property. Funk legend Rick James passed away on August 6, 2004 at the age of 54 years old. Serena Williams Is A Perfectly Sculpted Golden Goddess On The Cover Of Harper’s Bazaar

Source: Victoria Jones – PA Images / Getty Serena Williams ‘ body is sculpted by the finest craftsman in heaven and she is showing it off on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar in an unretouched photo that bares her bottom. @serenawilliams pens a candid essay for our August issue about standing up for herself, and becoming the strong woman, athlete, and mother she is today. https://t.co/8yVWKVG4SP — Harper's Bazaar (@harpersbazaarus) July 9, 2019 The dual cover portrays Serena as a golden goddess as her metallic gown blows in the wind. The champion tennis player penned an essay for the August issue, going into detail about her 2018 Grand Slam loss against Naomi Osaka. She was fined three times and ultimately, the referee had given the game to Osaka, who Serena admits played a better game. She admitted she couldn’t find peace after the match and felt betrayed by the sport she loved so much. “I felt defeated and disrespected by a sport that I love—one that I had dedicated my life to and that my family truly changed, not because we were welcomed, but because we wouldn’t stop winning.” “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve felt a need to voice my opinion and be heard…And I won’t ever stop raising my voice against injustice.” —For our August 2019 issue, @serenawilliams talks about never being afraid to use your voice: https://t.co/1bnucoZT7H pic.twitter.com/JsfHpMmCAI — Harper's Bazaar (@harpersbazaarus) July 9, 2019 Serena was convinced it was because she was a woman standing up for herself. “If I were a man, would I be in this situation? What makes me so different? Is it because I’m a woman? I stop myself to avoid getting worked up. I tell myself, ‘You’ve been through so much, you’ve endured so much, time will allow me to heal, and soon this will be just another memory that made me the strong woman, athlete, and mother I am today.’” She eventually questioned she had done the wrong thing standing up for herself because Osaka’s win was overshadowed by her behavior. “This debacle ruined something that should have been amazing and historic. Not only was a game taken from me but a defining, triumphant moment was taken from another player, something she should remember as one of the happiest memories in her long and successful career. My heart broke. I started to think again, “What could I have done better? Was I wrong to stand up? Why is it that when women get passionate, they’re labeled emotional, crazy, and irrational, but when men do they’re seen as passionate and strong?’” She sent Osaka an apology letter. “I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other. I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete,” she wrote. But Osaka’s response gave her the clarity she had been seeking. “People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two,” she said. “No one has stood up for themselves the way you have and you need to continue trailblazing.” The whole incident left Serena guarded. She didn’t pick up a racket until much later. “Ultimately, my daughter is the reason I use my voice, the reason I picked up a racket again. Love breathes life and newfound perspective into people. It’s not about quitting when someone presents a challenge; it’s about getting up when you are down, dusting yourself off and asking, “Is that the best you got?” Because I have God with me, and I can take whatever comes my way.” Read the full essay, here . Serena Williams Writes Moving Essay Regarding 2018 U.S. Open Loss

Source: TPN / Getty Serena Williams is currently playing in Wimbledon and made it to the semifinals after gutting out a 2-1 match against fellow American Alison Riske. While the tennis world is still very much tuned in to Williams’ exploits on the court, an essay she penned as part of Harper’s Bazaar August cover story shares details of her controversial 2018 U.S. Open match against Naomi Osaka . From Harper’s Bazaar : “Hey, Naomi! It’s Serena Williams. As I said on the court,I am so proud of you and I am truly sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other. I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete. I can’t wait for your future, and believe me I will always be watching as a big fan! I wish you only success today and in the future. Once again, I am so proud of you. All my love and your fan, Serena.” When Naomi’s response came through, tears rolled down my face. “People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two,” she said graciously. “No one has stood up for themselves the way you have and you need to continue trailblazing.” It was in this moment that I realized the real reason the US Open was so hard for me to get over: It wasn’t because of the backlash I faced but rather because of what had happened to the young woman who deserved so much more in her special moment. I had felt that it was my fault and that I should have kept my mouth closed. But now, seeing her text putting everything in perspective, I realized she was right. Classy. The entire piece actually dives deep into the perception that women athletes face far more scrutiny than their male counterparts when it comes to being expressive on the court, the field, and in life period. The entire essay is a worthy read full of self-reflection and humility. Read the essay in full here . Serena Williams Becomes Second Black Woman Tennis Player To Grace Wheaties Box

T ennis star Serena Williams is making historic moves on and off the court. Just weeks after becoming the first athlete to land a spot on Forbes’ list of the world’s richest self-made women, the Compton native now has her own Wheaties box; making her the second Black woman tennis player in history to be the face of the cereal brand, the Undefeated reported. Serena Williams is finally gracing the cover of Wheaties. https://t.co/jGC0LUiRlM pic.twitter.com/qTFb0SrhoG — The Undefeated (@TheUndefeated) June 28, 2019 Gracing the cover of a Wheaties box is a pinnacle for many athletes. The cereal brand—known as the “breakfast of champions”—has been featuring influential athletes on their boxes for 85 years. The leadership team at Wheaties believed that it would be fitting to feature Williams on the box because her impact transcends far beyond the tennis court. Williams has been a fierce advocate for social justice. Over the course of her career, she’s utilized her platform to spread awareness about gender equality and racial injustice. “Serena exemplifies all of the personal attributes that Wheaties looks for when choosing who its next champion will be,” Wheaties marketing manager Tiffani Daniels , said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “On the court she has been named the women’s most valuable player seven times, while off the court she uses her voice to inspire and spark change to make the world a better place.” Williams was humbled by the honor and took to Instagram to express her excitement. She says that being featured on the Wheaties box illustrates the importance of representation. “I have dreamt of this since I was a young woman,” she stated. “I hope my image on this iconic orange box will inspire the next generation of girls and athletes to dream big.” The decorated athlete—who has four Olympic medals and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles under her belt—joins a group of influential Black women athletes who have been featured on the box. Those who have graced the box include tennis player Althea Gibson , track and field star Jackie Joyner-Kersee , and gymnast Dominique Dawes . Williams is not only opening doors for women and girls who want to pursue careers in sports, she’s giving aspiring women entrepreneurs a seat at the venture capital table. In March she joined forces with the app Bumble to invest in women of color entrepreneurs. Softball Gold Medalist Gives Back with Summer Program #BlackNews #BlackPress #85YearsofLASentinel https://t.co/bjujQ1ZeIx — L.A. Sentinel News (@thelasentinel) June 15, 2019 The Natasha Watley Softball League—which has been in existence for over a decade—is supported by the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation. Its an 8-week free softball program for girls between the ages of 8 and 15. This year, the initiative is serving 126 girls from underserved communities. The organizers say their mission is to teach girls about leadership and health and inspire them to join the softball teams at their schools. For Watley—a UCLA alum who helped the USA Softball Women’s National Team win a gold medal during the 2004 Olympics—it’s all about representation. She wanted to ensure Black and brown girls were exposed to softball at a young age and hopes to use her program to increase representation within the sport. “We started the league to give opportunities to young girls in LA to learn how to play softball,” Watley said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “Most of them, when they start, they’ve never even heard of softball so we’re teaching them the game. Through that we hope that they also learn about teamwork, commitment, and dedication.” There are several efforts being made to diversify softball and baseball. In May, Black College Sports Group 360 launched the HBCU World Series as an avenue to spread awareness about baseball programs at HBCUs and increase racial diversity within the sport. “We want to utilize these events to promote educational opportunities to urban youth who in some cases may not even know schools with the history of a North Carolina A&T State University or a Southern University even exists,” said Black College Sports Group 360 founder Erwin Prentiss Hill . “These oftentimes may be first-generation college prospects. They have good grades and good GPAs. They just do not have an understanding from a previous generation of what it takes to navigate that process.” SEE ALSO: HBCU World Series Aims To Diversify College Baseball Serena Williams Becomes Second Black Woman Tennis Player To Grace Wheaties Box [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3881358″ overlay=”true”]

Source: NurPhoto / Getty Serena Williams continues put on for women. She recently sported a very empowering ensemble during one of the premier sporting events of the year. As spotted on  Page Six Serena wore a feminist forward outfit to the French Open. The fit was a custom Off-White for Nike black zip up top with a matching skirt. Each piece featured some pretty powerful and inspiring words in French including “Mother”, “Champion”, “Queen” and “Goddess”. The living legend detailed her intentions in an interview with the Tennis Chanel. “It has words in it in French. It talks about me being a mom and me being a queen, as all women are. A champion. It’s positive reinforcement for me, and I kind of love that” she explained. She also told AP NEWS “[the words on the jacket] are things that mean a lot to me and reminders for me and for everyone that wants to wear it.” Williams has a history of wearing statement pieces to the court. In 2018 Virgil Abloh designed the iconic tutu outfit she wore at the US Open in response to her catsuit being previously banned by the federation.
