Jussie Smollett may not be prosecuted for almost definitely staging his own attack on the streets of Chicago a few months ago. But this doesn’t mean the polarizing Empire star is finished with the legal system. According to TMZ, Smollett will soon be sued by the Windy City itself and may effectively even go on trial for his role in the January 27 “assault.” As you must know by now, this word has been placed in quotation marks because Smollett is accused of staging an assault against… himself. He claimed several weeks ago that two white men screamed racial and homophobic epithets at him, while also saying he was living in “MAGA country,” prior to beating him up and tying a rope around his neck. The star even alleges that doused him with bleach. After being the subject of sympathy from basically everyone in America, Smollett quickly turned into the subject of scorn and derision. Because it started to become clear that he actually concoted this entire story. Smollett was even arrested and charged with multiple felonies related to falsifying a police report. The Chicago Police Department subsequently held a press conference in which it trashed the actor for wasting its time and resources. However, on March 26, Smollett was cleared of all charges . The city’s Mayor still thinks he’s very guilty, however, and even the lawyer who chose to set him free has said there’s mounting evidence that points to Smollett’s guilt… it just didn’t seem worthwhile to prosecute him. While observers remain stunned and confused over the development, Chicago is now trying to hold Smollett at least somewhat liable. As previously reported, the City of Chicago recently fired off a letter to Jussie’s people, demanding $130,000 for the cost of investigating the case. Smollett scoffed at such a request, but Chicago isn’t giving up. Per TMZ, the city had to wait seven days before filing a civil lawsuit against the actor — and now that the week is up, it has every intention of moving forward with this action. Says a spokesperson for the City of Chicago: “Mr. Smollett has refused to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent investigating his false police report on January 29, 2019. “The Law Department is now drafting a civil complaint that will be filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Once it is filed, the Law Department will send a courtesy copy of the complaint to Mr. Smollett’s L.A. based legal team.” Apparently Chicago can ask for up to $390,000 from Smollett, three times what the investigation cost. In order to win and receive this payout, the City must prove that it’s more likely than not that Jussie faked the “attack.” This, in effect, will place Jussie on trial before an administrative law judge. And the burden of proof will NOT be to find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Are things about to get ugly in very public fashion again? It sounds that way. Smollett has “no plans on paying investigative costs being outrageously demanded,” an insider tells Us Weekly. Instead, the source suggests that “the Chicago Police Department should be investigating the way this matter was mishandled from the beginning.” Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, though, is pissed. We doubt he’s going to let this issue go. In an earlier statement, he referred to Smollett getting cleared as a ” whitewash of justice ,” wondering what kind of terrible human being exploits actual hate crimes in the manner Smollett allegedly did here. “When Smollett does pay the city back on just what the taxpayers have fronted, in that memo section [of the check], he can write, ‘I’m sorry and I’m accountable for what I’ve done,'” Emanuel said in a press conference late last month, concluding as follows: It’s just wrong. … Does he have no decency? FAIR WARNING: This is scariest horror film since the Exorcist — turn back now pic.twitter.com/DaAexVuxGA — jason (@Jason) October 29, 2018 Eating at salad bars is a gamble—so many people, so many hands touching the ladle to serve themselves, and ultimately so many germs. Our worst nightmare came true this week when a guy went viral for drinking directly from a soup ladle at a buffet in Chicago. The clip is sure to gross you out . Dressed in all black, dude walks right up to the salad bar, presses his lips to the ladle, and gets his fill of soup without a care in the world. Little did he know he was being filmed as he placed the ladle back into its container. It’ll definitely make you think twice about eating at a buffet. Of course, twitter folks have been going crazy over the clip, which has been retweeted countless times. Here’s what the comments look like: “I’ve heard of double dipping, but this takes it to a whole new level” – @JayRusk “That’s like ten bucks right there if this is whole foods” – @Lynleigh3 “Thanks for triggering an OCD paranoia event. No way… can’t wrap my head around it.” – @nofomo3 “That’s Straight Nastiness! OMG. But why didn’t the guy capturing the video say something?” – @SonnyWhy “I don’t condone punching random people. This might be an exception…” – @dstriddy “Can this man be identified and publicly noticed and barred from all restaurants? This needs to be immediate.” – @d_m_elms “OMMMGGGGG! Why is that salab bar UNSUPERVISED???” – @drroynorman “He needs his ass kicked.” – @BriarRKY “Why would you record that and not smack this fool back of his head” – @ernesto2590 “*dials police* Yes. I’d like to make a report.” – @itsmefink “I once saw a kid at a buffet lick his soft serve ice cream cone, then stick it in the sprinkles and roll it around. Ever since then, I’m out.” – @Williams4Dad It’s safe to say this is the nastiest video we’ve seen all year, but some folks are questioning whether or not it was staged, as the clip originated on Reddit. “Now, if we’ve learned anything from shocking videos that originate on Reddit ( cough, Justin Bieber burrito impersonator, cough) , it’s to always question whether the material is true. Was this incident really caught on candid camera? Was it a mischievous hoax to bate tweeters into having another giant food fight? Or was it filmed to remind us of proper etiquette and hygiene?” Today asked. Whether or not the clip is real, it’s definitely possible that people do this all the time and don’t get caught…so be careful.
This is how all chicks should be walking around the city! Not only at beaches. As you can see Bella Thorne ‘s bikini fashion line is very versatile and can be worn inside, outside, at the beach and on city streets. She is a fashion genius! Screw Karl Lagerfeld.
The ladies of Teen Mom 2 have essentially turned Twitter into a battlefield this week. Entangled alliances and an abundance of mutual disdain have led to an all-out war that will hopefully keep us entertained until next season kicks off. And folks, we’re happy to say we’ve managed to contribute to the mayhem in some small way. Yesterday, Briana posted an article from The Hollywood Gossip detailing the revelation tha t Javi Marroquin slept with Kailyn Lowry while he was still dating DeJesus. “Are you f–king kidding me?” Briana tweeted in response to our piece. Brana and Javi have been broken up for over seven months now, but you can imagine how seeing a headline like “ Javi Marroquin: I Totally Nailed Kailyn Lowry While Dating Briana DeJesus ” might serve to re-open old wounds. Anyway, Bri’s tweet set off a domino effect, and as usual, Jenelle Evans was happy to add to the chaos. “Soooo try to make some other chick jealous by giving your body away again to your ex?” Evans wrote in a since-deleted tweet, adding: “Ew. #EnoughSaid #NoMorals #NoStandards #JustAThought.” Yes, even though Javi was the only one in a relationship, Jenelle thinks Kail should be blamed for his infidelity. That sort of logic frustrates the hell out of you until you remember that Jenelle is criminally insane and firing off angry tweets about a situation that has nothing to with her is one of the least crazy things she’s done this year. “Awe, Jenelle’s trying to come for me again… that’s cute. What’s up boo?!” Lowry responded. “Someone with what? 5 engagements, multiple abortions, 20+ mugshots, doing drugs on national television, etc. can’t come for me. Have a great night.” Obviously, that’s more than just throwing shade. Kail just went ahead and created a solar eclipse that left Jenelle’s entire world enshrouded in darkness. To her credit, Jenelle recovered enough to clap back tweeting: “Just keep bringing up my past acting like it’s current. How many times are you going to repeat yourself? We all know my past …”I’ve changed and strive to continue that way… but others choose to remain raunchy.” After that, Bri jumped back into the fray, tweeting: “I hate people who point the finger especially when we all live in a glass house LOL.” A bit of a mixed metaphor, but we get the point. She later added: “Bitches get a little bit of money and forget where they came from. “Too bad it’s been documented so we’ll never forget. Look in the mirror before trying to throw shade.” Now that’s shade! Tough to say who the winner is here, but it’s clear that the real loser is MTV for not paying all these women to live in a house together and filming it year-round. TV shows are canceled for a variety of reasons. It could be whether the cast wants out or the ratings, or anything. With multiple scripted TV shows getting the reboot treatment, it was only a matter of time before the world of reality TV was rocked. Jersey Shore and The Hills have been rebooted, so why can these 13 shows not get a reprieve? 1. The City The City was a short-lived spin-off of The Hills. It followed Whitney Port as she moved from California to New York in an attempt to further her fashion career. Once there, she quickly learned that the world of fashion was more cutthroat than she first anticipated, and had to adapt to her new surroundings. Initial episodes were clunky, with performances so wooden it sounded that the script was below the camera. However, the series managed to find its footing in Season 2 by scaling back the relationships in favor of actually focusing on the world of fashion. MTV opted to cancel the series alongside The Hills. Given that Port is married to Tim Rosenman, the producer of the series, would it be that difficult to bring the show back in some form if the reboot of The Hills proves to be successful? We think not, and we would totally watch! 2. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Here Comes Honey Boo Boo followed Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her family around McIntyre, Georgia. They were fun to watch, made hilarious comments, and controversy seemed to follow them. TLC pulled the plug after four seasons in 2014, leaving a full season of episodes unaired. The reason for the cancellation was said to be because of rumors that June Shannon was dating a registered sex offender. The series returned to TLC three years later with a two-hour special that featured some of the footage that never made the cut. Could a reboot be on the cards? 3. The Real World The Real World put a group of youngsters inside a house in a specific location each season. Viewers watched as they partied, bickered, made up and did the same thing all over the next episode. Does it sound like a lot of reality TV shows on MTV nowadays? Later seasons added in twists that diluted the premise of the show, and it could explain why MTV has not aired the series since early 2017. There have been rumblings that a reboot is in the works, but there is nothing official as of yet from MTV. A back-to-basics approach could be what this series needs to thrive again. 4. College Hill College Hill followed the lives of students at historically black colleges. The format was similar to The Real World, but the college setting made for a fresh perspective. It was a hit for BET, but fizzled out in its final few seasons, and that was largely down to the cast not being as good as the earlier editions. The general rule of thumb for reality TV is that if the cast is right, viewers will tune in. BET would be wise to trial an updated edition of the show. It could be a hit! 5. Next Next was a dating show that spanned 288 episodes from 2005-08 on MTV. It was retro, cheap, and everything you would expect from a dating show in the noughties. The surprising thing about it was that MTV’s target audience managed to understand the convoluted format. A reboot for streaming could be a hit. 6. Growing Up Gotti Growing Up Gotti followed Victoria Gotti, daughter of Mafia boss John Gotti, and her three sons; Carmine Agnello, Jr., John Gotti Agnello, and Frank Gotti Agnello. Victoria was a hard as nails mother, who would stop at nothing to keep her sons in line. Despite being popular, it lasted just three seasons. A reunion aired on the network nine years later, and proved there was still enough family drama to sustain further seasons. View Slideshow
