April 7th is World Health Day 2011. The World Health Organization(WHO) will introduce a six-point policy package to combat the spread of antimicrobial resistance. We live in an era of medical breakthroughs with new wonder drugs available to treat conditions that a few decades ago, or even a few years ago in the case of HIV/AIDS, would have proved fatal. Antimicrobial resistance and its global spread threaten the continued effectiveness of many medicines used today to treat the sick, while at the same time it risks jeopardizing important advances being made against major infectious killers. Man Jailed Over Monopoly Game
Fraser (WWJ) — 54-year old Kenneth Reppke of Fraser is behind bars, accused of slugging a friend over a game of Monopoly.
According to Fraser police Lt. Dan Kolke, “She advised that she was plaing Monopoly with a male friend. He wanted to buy Boardwalk and Park Place. She refused to do it, so he got mad and hit her in the head, knocking her glasses off and breaking them.”
Kolke said that all calls are taken seriously, but when a man and woman are involved, “we look into whether they have an intimate relationship or if they’re married, because that’s domestic assault and we take those a little more seriously.”
Kolke said that, after talking with both parties, it was clear that they were just friends, meaning that domestic violence charges weren’t appropriate. Reppke was charged with a misdemeanor and posted bond.
Reppke, who has no crminal record, has since apologized.
