Sasheer Zamata to Debut as New Saturday Night Live Cast Member

Saturday Night Live will soon have a new Oprah Winfrey. And Michelle Obama. And Condoleezza Rice. The iconic NBC sketch comedy series has responded to its lack-of-diversity criticism by hiring Sasheer Zamata. The comedian will debut on the January 18 episode of the program, which will be hosted by Drake . Zamata trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and will become SNL’s first African-American female since Maya Rudolph left five years ago. After hiring six new cast members prior to this season, none of whom were black, Lorne Michaels held auditions across the country last month for someone to fill this role. And Zamata – a graduate of the University of Virginia and someone who has appeared on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX, and Inside Amy Schumer – beat out stiff competition to land the part. We wish her the best of luck. We’ll be watching.

Evander Holyfield’s Son Defends Father: He Loves Gays!

Evander Holyfield may have made his living as a professional fighter, but son Ewin says his dad is really just a lover. Yes, even of gay people. The ex-Heavyweight Champion made headlines over the weekend when he said on UK Celebrity Big Brother that homosexuality is a handicap that can be fixed by a physician. Evander Holyfield Slams Homosexuality as a “Handicap” But Ewin Holyfield tells TMZ that his father is deeply religious and was merely expressing a biblical belief. “My dad is the most loving and caring person you will ever meet. He treats everyone like a human being … even if they are homosexual,” Ewin says , adding that he has a gay uncle who gets along very well with Evander and concluding: “My dad feels that being gay is a choice … and naturally that’s how things work. “You cannot procreate and make a baby with two women, or two men. But at the same time, my dad is not going to judge someone for their sexual orientation.” Again, it’s worth noting that Evander Holyfield has TWELVE KIDS by SIX WOMEN and has been divorced three times. As he contemplates the controversy drummed up by his Big Brother remarks, perhaps Holyfield can go find a few passages in the bible that talk about those topics as well.

Amazing what a little TLC can do for someone’s life. Homeless Army Vet Gets A Complete Makeover That Empowers Him To Change His Life Via HuffingtonPost A simply incredible time-lapse video, released just in time for Veteran’s Day, has captured the transformation of a homeless United States Army veteran. Jim Wolf struggles with homelessness and alcoholism, but thanks to a unique initiative by Dégagé Ministries, he was recently given the opportunity for a complete makeover. Wolf’s transformation is utterly beautiful, and according to the video, the physical change has also inspired him to turn his life around. He’s now attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for the first time in his life. Dégagé Ministries “offers help and hope to homeless and disadvantaged individuals,” according to its fundraising page, and the three-minute clip was produced by RobBlissCreative to raise money and awareness. The “News Slaves” rapper has pushed back against his critics, claiming “it’s my flag” and arguing that his use of the imagery, which is normally associated with bigotry and pro-slavery views, is an attempt to subvert its meaning. “I just think people look cool in it. They look nice. And it’s colorless also,” West said in an interview at Los Angeles’ 97.1 AMP radio station. “It’s super hood and super white boy approved at the same time. Lil Wayne Dropped By Mountain Dew Over Emmett Till Controversy

Lil Wayne will no longer be representing Mountain Dew. PepsiCo cut ties with its popular pitchman Friday over his controversial lyric mentioning 1950s civil rights martyr Emmett Till in the crudest of ways. “Beat that pu–y up like Emmett Till,” the 30-year-old rapped on Future’s “Karate Chop” remix , which was later pulled due to the offensive reference. Weezy recently apologized for (well, acknowledged) the controversy in a letter to Emmett Till ‘s family, but that apparently did not go far enough. PepsiCo released a statement asserting that Weezy’s “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.” “We do not plan any additional work with Lil Wayne moving forward.” Tunechi’s rep confirmed the split with the food and beverage corporation, but called it “an amicable parting” of ways due to “creative differences.” When he was 14, Emmett Till was beaten beyond recognition in Mississippi in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman and nothing more. Epic Records removed the obscene lyric from the song and issued an apology, and Weezy said he will not be performing it in any way again. Yet the Till family was still outraged by the lack of a sincere apology and called for Mountain Dew to sever its ties with the Young Money CEO. Point, Till family.
