Chamillionaire Establishes Charity To Drive Donations For Hurricane Harvey Victims In Houston

Chamillionaire Forms Charity To Help Victims Of Hurricane Harvey As efforts ramp up to help get Texas get back on its feet in the wake of Harvey’s historical damage, Houston native Chamillionaire continues to do his part. After several days of relief work including driving water and supplies to some of our hardest hit areas like Beaumont, Orange and Port Arthur and seeing not only the devastation but in many cases, the complete lack of basic needs, Cham felt the call to do more. This was the inspiration behind the Robin’s Heart Foundation, Chamillionaire’s newly formed 501©3 charity, for monetary donations. You can donate to the ROBIN’S HEART FOUNDATION HERE. “Just like so many other people out there, I don’t want to sit on the sidelines, I want to do the most that I can to help.” He says on the front page of his website. “I will be investing a lot of my own personal time and money to help, but there are so many people impacted by the flooding that I can’t help feeling like I need to try my best to do more.” He added. “I’m sure there are plenty of other campaigns that will do great things for the people who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, but I want to focus on a lot of the families and areas that I feel have been extremely overlooked.” As a show of good faith, Chamillionaire has donated the first $25,000 and he promises that every single penny of the money raised will go towards helping those in need with zero administrative fees. Those that prefer to donate goods can ship or take them directly to Gallery Furniture (6006 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77076) and Mattress Mack and his team, with whom Chamillionaire announced a partnership today, will happily be sure they are distributed where they are needed most. New Rabbit Hole Poster: Heavy-Handed or Just Accurate?

We’ve been warned about Rabbit Hole ‘s unremarkable qualities , but I’m still jonesing to see it. Its Pulitzer-winning source material is a modern classic, the flawless Dianne Wiest co-stars, and no holiday season is complete without a big cinematic downer. But in a new poster for the film, the devastation that pervades Nicole Kidman’s life is captured in an image that might be suitable for something less classic — like, say, a Zoloft ad.

3,000 Birds Now Killed or Covered by Oil in the Gulf

Photos via Boston With the tentatively good news breaking that the oil flow has been halted — according to BP at least — it may be time to return the focus to the devastation the spill has wrought. A good place as any to start is with the wildlife. The birds and sea turtles that have fallen victim to the oil slick are among the most public faces of the BP spill’s destruction. And recent numbers have revealed that at least 3,000 birds have b… Read the full story on TreeHugger

The Dead Zone Is Expanding

Mon May 17, 2010 4:59 PM EDT By The Rachel Maddow Show (Times-Picayune graphic) Years before the Deepwater Horizon disaster, before the underwater volcano of oil threatened to create a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, scientists recognized another dead zone in the Gulf. The New Orleans Times-Picayune won a Pulitzer in 1997 for documenting the devastation around the mouth of the Mississippi River. The 7,000-square-mile dead zone was caused by algae blooms, feeding on agricultural and sewer runoff, that deplete the oxygen in the water. http://www.pulitzer.org/archives/6010 Ten years later, the Times-Picayune found this dead zone was still growing: “You reach a point where you've shifted the ecosystem to a completely different domain, and the recovery from that may be impossible,” said Don Scavia, a professor of natural resources and environment at the University of Michigan and former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist who led one of the first federal studies on the dead zone in 2000. “There will be a time where the critters that typically occupy the sediment in those areas can no longer recover.” added by: EthicalVegan

Christina Aguilera Helps in Haiti

Is she copying Lady Gaga, or is it the other way around? While fans and critics engage in this silly debate , Christina Aguilera is focusing on more important things: The singer, and husband Jordan Bratman, visited two schools in Haiti last week, a country still ravaged by a recent earthquake. They met with children receiving food and aid there, as the singer is the World Food Program’s new Ambassador Against Hunger. Christina served meals of rice and beans to the children, discussed the food/supply response with officials and learned about the nation’s ongoing recovery effort. She said: “I was so moved by the devastation in Haiti but also by the spirit of its people. The children have such joy and are eager to learn despite the destruction around them. The children deserve a chance, and I want to make sure they get a chance.” In equally important Aguilera news: the artist is naked on the cover of GQ !
