Source: Scott Olson / Getty Jason Van Dyke Sentenced To Six Years For Laquan McDonald Shooting Chicago Police officer Jason Van Dyke has been sentenced to 81 months, (6 years and 9 months) in prison and two years of mandatory supervised release for the murder of 17-year old Laquan McDonald . Van Dyke was convicted in October of second-degree murder and 16 counts of aggravated battery, one for each shot Van Dyke fired that struck McDonald. Back in 2014, the officer shot Laquan 16 times after responding to police calls for assistance. Van Dyke claimed that he fired after McDonald failed to comply with demands to drop a knife he was holding and made a threatening move toward police. USA Today reports: Prosecutors had asked Judge Vincent Gaughan to sentence Van Dyke to a prison term of 18 to 20 years. His defense team had asked that he be released on probation Illinois state law requires he serve at least 50 percent of the sentence. He’s already served about three months as he awaited sentencing, so Van Dyke could be out of prison in a little more than three years. Since the fatal shooting, all Chicago officers are required to wear body cameras and the three officers who allegedly “covered up” his actions have been acquitted . Prosecutors suggested up to 96 years for his crime. Before the sentencing, a judge received 200 letters begging for leniency for Van Dyke and his wife emotionally read one asking that he be set free. According to her he “paid the ultimate price.” “He has paid the ultimate price. He will no longer be a police officer. His life is over,” said the wife in court. “He has paid the ultimate price. He will no longer be a police officer. His life is over” – Jason Van Dyke’s wife pleads with court to let her husband come home. We had the honor and pleasure of chatting it up with the lively, hilarious and ICONIC cast of culturally legendary ’90s sitcom “A Different World” about everything and more just moments before they, along with Ford’s Multicultural Communications Manager Dee Guerrero, presented a big ‘ole check for $100,000 to Southwestern Christian College Chairman of the Board Dr. Dansby. Now, if you’re wondering how a small school like Southwestern Christian College beat out bigger HBCU titans, well, they showed up and showed out for a 2017 nationwide online competition and WON. If that sounds like an amazing story, it absolutely is, and made the day even more special for a school with a smidge over 100 students. Whew chil-lay, Ford went all out and even offered gift cards to test drive the F-150 XLT/Limited trucks in partnership with Drive 4 Ur Community which donates $20 for each test drive or ride to the Tom Joyner Foundation to help support HBCUs. NeNe recently went head to head with a fan who told her she looked “unnatural.” “I like you but I gotta be honest with you…you look fake…looking natural is the ultimate beauty,” said a fan. That apparently spurned some shade from NeNe, who told the follower that she’s only striving to please herself. Oh, and her “hater” has a lot of chin fat. Super Smash Bros Ultimate The unique fighting game is making its Nintendo Switch debut December 7th and will feature every single Smash Bros. character that appeared in the games over the years. Nintendo also revealed Samus’ arch-enemy Ridley will be making his Smash Bros. debut, Amibo support and a Super Smash Bros special edition GameCube controller for Melee fans.
