Haley Smith, Former American Idol Contestant, Dies in Motorcycle Crash

We have very sad news to report from the world of reality television: Haley Smith, a former American Idol hopeful who advanced to Hollywood back in 2012, was killed this past Saturday morning in Maine after she was involved in a one-vehicle motorcycle crash. The singer was 27 years old. According to authorities, per TMZ, the fatal accident took place in the town of Millinocket. The police say that Smith seemingly failed to make a sharp turn along a residential road that turned into a highway in certain sections. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith’s father, Mike, told the aforementioned outlet that his daughter was riding on this country road and her family believes a deer could have caused the crash. Mike also implied Haley was a strong motorcycle driver and doubted that she simply lost control of her bike, for whatever that is worth. It has also been confirmed that the crash occurred around 2 a.m. As for her stint on American Idol? Smith auditioned for the competition in Colorado. She only advanced to the second Hollywood round, yet impressed judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler with her folksy version of Chaka Khan’s “Tell Me Something Good.” The Aerosmith frontman said at the time it was an honor to hear Smith sing, adding that she was out of his “era” with her look and sound. “I love your voice so much. You’re right out of my era and I’m honored to be hear listening to your voice,” he said to be exact. You can take a look below at a clip of Smith from her time on the beloved show: Haley Smith on American Idol Smith was only 18 years old when she appeared on Idol. The show, as you very likely know if you’re reading this, was canceled after 15 season on Fox in 2015. It has since been revived by ABC — with judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan starring on the program opposite longtime host Ryan Seacrest. The singing competition is heading into its 18th season (its third on ABC) and is scheduled to premiere in 2020. Smith is one of a handful of former American Idol contestants to have passed away since appearing on the series. Paula Goodspeed was the first death to hit close to American Idol when the Season 5 hopeful died from an apparent drug overdose in 2008. In July 2009, Alexis Cohen was killed by a hit-and-run driver in New Jersey. In August 2014, Season 7 finalist Michael Johns passed away due to complications of an undiagnosed heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy. A few months later, fellow Season 7 competitor Joanne Borgella died from cancer. Then, in May 5, 2016, 36-year-old American Idol Season 2 finalist Rickey Smith was killed by a drunk driver. May Haley Smith rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2019: In Memoriam

Source: Tony Rivetti / Getty Actress Afton Williamson , who played the role of Talia Bishop on ABC’s The Rookie , has quit the show amid claims of sexual harassment and assault along with racial discrimination. In an Instagram post, Williamson announced her departure while naming those who carried out the alleged acts. “I will not be returning for Season 2 of The Rookie,” Williamson wrote in the caption for the post. “I owe it to you my amazing fans to share the Truth. Throughout the filming of the pilot, I experienced Racial Discrimination/Racially Charged inappropriate comments from the hair department and bullying from Executive Producers.” She added, “During the Season, it continued along with Sexual Harassment from a recurring guest star, Demetrius Grosse, and the racist commentary & bullying from the Hair Dept. Head, Sally Ciganovich escalated into Sexual Assault at our Wrap party. The Sexual Harassment though reported directly to the Showrunner/EP remained undocumented and was not reported to HR as promised. Ciganovich was fired ONLY after the sexual assault and NOT for an entire year of outward racism/racially charged language and bullying behavior in and out of the Hair and Makeup trailer. HR protocol was never adhered to following the above reports given by me to my Showrunner/EP and an investigation was never issued for any of my claims.” In the following post, Williamson thanked her fans and supporters after making her announcement. “I am so beyond overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, kind words, scriptures, strength filled quotes and devout support that has come my way. One Instagram post is just like those 2 fish and 5 loaves of Bread,” Willamson wrote. “The rippling effect it has had in just a few hours shows how much this world is aching with victims of racism, discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual abuse all of it. I am no stranger to all of the above even before this experience. But it is through this experience and my platform that God pushed me to use the power within me.” View the posts below. The only time I was asked to participate in an investigation was after a meeting I called in June following our Season 2 announcement. This meeting included the Showrunner and two other producers as well as my agent and SAG-AFTRA Union Rep. It was clear to all present in the meeting that the Showrunner had not shared my reports with the any of the producers. After my initial report of sexual harassment, I was assured that Grosse would be fired. I was also asked to film with him the very next day as a courtesy to the script, even though we had not begun filming the episode yet. Grosse reappeared on our call sheet at the end of the season, I was even written in scenes with him. I asked the Showrunner about this and he admitted to me that the Grosse had not been fired nor had he gotten HR involved. I was asked to return this season, and promised that “everything was handled.” The investigation hadn’t even begun and Season 2 had already started filming. I turned it down and I walked. Now is the best time in the world to be a woman and I have a platform so it’s time to use my Voice. Strength comes from within. I am no stranger to all of the above even before this experience. But it is through this experience and my platform that God pushed me to use the power within me. It just takes a VOICE. I never imagined so many of us have experienced these horrible circumstances and that can NO LONGER GO UNHEARD. We have a voice. ALL OF US. It is our DUTY to use it. I used to fear the word Victim. I scoffed at it because all I was told when these injustices happened to me, was to Survive. Survivor I am. Victim I am also. A victim of injustice. A victim of assault. A victim of abuse and harassment. If you have experienced any of the above, you are too and I for one stand with you and I’m no longer afraid to be vocal about it. We Can Stand Together. Let’s Change This Sickness. That Change starts with US. This season on The Rookie, I was sexually harassed by fellow actor Demetrius Grosse. I was Racially Bullied and Discriminated against and Sexually Assaulted by Hair Department Head Sally Nicole Ciganovich. Shailene Woodley Tits of the Day

Shailene Woodley is not hot. I’ve seen her in person, boring. I’ve seen her in movies, boring. I’ve seen her in a TV show, boring. She’s got some titty, but she’s 7 feet tall, so it’s not that impressive..and since I base my opinion of women on the quality of their genitals, but if I don’t see their genitals, I go to the next best thing which is either ass or tits, this Shailene is not that impressive. What makes her even worse is that she’s an activist who got arrested for her activism…which means she thinks she is important or doing good work to save the world…and nothing more self righteous and annoying than that….it’s like she got into a movie where she’s got cancer and all of a sudden her celebrity, her voice and her opinion should be heard….like she’s got something to say…when she doesn’t…she’s a fucking actor not an educated, trained anything…maybe she should save the opinions for experts while sticking to titty pics/videos for IG…where she clearly feels at home doing… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! Jay Smith: Miserable and Scared in ICE Custody as Deportation Looms

Last week, while most of us were gearing up for an Independence Day celebration or at least a nice day off, Jay Smith was in ICE custody . Now, his friend says that he sits in despair, never having experienced anything like this before. She also reveals the one thing that’s keeping him positive during this scary experience. … “He said it is hard in lockup,” Jay Smith’s friend, Kayla O’Brien, admits to In Touch Weekly . Jay’s friend explains that this is such a shock to him “because he’s never done anything like this before.” “[He said] sometimes you feel you are going crazy,” Kayla reveals. “But,” she notes. “He has been able to stay so positive.” Jay has only managed that “due to the amazing support of his family and friends.” “He is so thankful and appreciative,” Kayla expresses of Jay. “And,” she adds. “You can always hear it in his voice.” According to Kayla, “he knows how hard we are working for him.”  “It’s been a wild, emotional ride,” she characterizes. “But,” she notes warmly. “He is most definitely hanging in there.” “He is so admirable,” Kayla gushes about Jay’s resolve behind bars. She cannot help but respect “how he has stayed so strong, so calm, so collected, and so positive.” “I am proud of him,” Jay’s friend concludes. Some would reply to this by sharing Kayla’s sentiments. Others may wonder how much of this is just thirst talking. “He will be deported on Aug. 7 unless he runs, which is what I’m assuming he’s probably [planning],” Ashley Martson shared in June. “The thing that’s really frustrating is he’s here illegally now …” she expressed. Ashley clarified: “I did file for his adjustment of status, and then two weeks later he screwed up again, so I withdrew it.” “ICE has already been here to arrest him. They know where he works,”Ashley noted. “I mean obviously, if they come to my house at this point, I’m gonna tell them where he’s at,” she made clear. Ashley concluded at the time: “So I’m not sure why he’s still sticking around because we got a letter three weeks ago saying he has an active warrant for his arrest.” But apparently Jay wasn’t willing to wait that long. Ashley has explained that, when she and her family left for a short vacation, Jay allegedly broke into her home. She contacted law enforcement, who advised her to obtain a PFA — an order for the Prevention From Abuse. Ashley did, and has told the world that there was “a lot of abuse” in her trounled marriage. She was granted the protection order on July 1. Jay violated it … on July 2. The PFA included a stipulation that Jay was not to speak publicly of the order. For some reason, he decided to discuss it in his Instagram Stories, which came to the attention of police. Even Ashley was heartbroken after he was ordered to surrender himself to authorities and was placed in ICE custody. He does have an upcoming hearing next week, on July 17. There, he will discuss violating the protective order.  Clearly, Kayla would like to see him released from custody. Serena Williams Writes Moving Essay Regarding 2018 U.S. Open Loss

Continue reading here:

Source: TPN / Getty Serena Williams is currently playing in Wimbledon and made it to the semifinals after gutting out a 2-1 match against fellow American Alison Riske. While the tennis world is still very much tuned in to Williams’ exploits on the court, an essay she penned as part of Harper’s Bazaar August cover story shares details of her controversial 2018 U.S. Open match against Naomi Osaka . From Harper’s Bazaar : “Hey, Naomi! It’s Serena Williams. As I said on the court,I am so proud of you and I am truly sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other. I would love the chance to live that moment over again. I am, was, and will always be happy for you and supportive of you. I would never, ever want the light to shine away from another female, specifically another black female athlete. I can’t wait for your future, and believe me I will always be watching as a big fan! I wish you only success today and in the future. Once again, I am so proud of you. All my love and your fan, Serena.” When Naomi’s response came through, tears rolled down my face. “People can misunderstand anger for strength because they can’t differentiate between the two,” she said graciously. “No one has stood up for themselves the way you have and you need to continue trailblazing.” It was in this moment that I realized the real reason the US Open was so hard for me to get over: It wasn’t because of the backlash I faced but rather because of what had happened to the young woman who deserved so much more in her special moment. I had felt that it was my fault and that I should have kept my mouth closed. But now, seeing her text putting everything in perspective, I realized she was right. Classy. The entire piece actually dives deep into the perception that women athletes face far more scrutiny than their male counterparts when it comes to being expressive on the court, the field, and in life period. The entire essay is a worthy read full of self-reflection and humility. Read the essay in full here . View this post on Instagram “Ultimately, my daughter is the reason I use my voice, the reason I picked up a racket again. Love breathes life and newfound perspective into people. It’s not about quitting when someone presents a challenge; it’s about getting up when you are down, dusting yourself off and asking, ‘Is that the best you got?’” Read #SerenaWilliams full essay in our unretouched issue at the link in bio.
