Will a Bunch of Earnest Actors Make You Want to See War Horse?

The actors in War Horse whinny for Oscar cred in the new promotional spot for the Spielberg epic. Though the elegance of the Broadway play’s amazing horse puppetry has been shamefully replaced by real horses, we’re supposed to believe the cinematic adaptation is just as poignant. Sigh. Let’s hear them out.

The 5 Best Tidbits from Steven Spielberg’s War Horse Q&A

I’m still a little sour with Steven Spielberg after he tried shilling the abysmal Cowboys & Aliens with a bunch of smarty-pants soundbites , but I’ll let him slide in case War Horse turns out to be fabulous. In this new, highly edited Q&A from MSN , Spielberg talks about the new movie, purposely casting an unknown as a lead, and the miraculous work of John Williams. All sounds good so far. But will we be left wanting? Or whinnying?

A Boy And His Horse: Watch the Sparkling Trailer for Steven Spielberg’s War Horse

When the trailer for The Adventures of Tintin was released online last month, it was met with some push-back from Steven Spielberg fans because of its Zemeckis-y tumble into the uncanny valley. Good thing, then, that Spielberg has another December release lined up to please his many devotees: the motion capture-free War Horse . The first trailer for the World War I drama about a boy (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse has arrived online, and you might want to bring a tissue to watch it ahead.

See a Man About a Horse: First Still from Steven Spielberg’s War Horse Arrives

When Movieline last checked on Steven Spielberg’s War Horse , it was to show you pictures of the director and some horses . Now that the first official still from the highly anticipated second half of Spielberg’s 2011 double-bill has been revealed (Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin hits theaters days before War Horse in December), it appears so, too, has the “war” portion of War Horse . At least in the form of three frowning British officers.

Jeremy London Kidnapped, Forced to Smoke Dope

While attempting to change a flat tire in Palm Springs, former Party of Five star Jeremy London was kidnapped by two men who forced the former drug-addicted actor to smoke crack cocaine (or amphetamines, London wasn’t certain) and distribute liquor in a gang area of the town — all while being held at gunpoint. Radar reports that two men were charged Wednesday over the incident, which lasted five hours before London escaped. [ Radar ]

Steven Spielberg Lines Up Cast for War Horse

Hey, remember when Steven Spielberg actually directed movies and didn’t just produce them? (Deep breath: He’s shepherding Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter , The Coen Brothers’ True Grit , Transformers 3 , Cowboys and Aliens , Real Steel , Super 8 and I Am Number Four , to name seven.) Well, not only does he have The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn coming in 2011, but he’s also got that reported adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s novel, War Horse , on the way as well. And that one’s just staffed up with the nicest set of UK character actors this side of Harry Potter .

Spielberg Chooses Next Film

The famously indecisive Steven Spielberg has finally settled on his next film, and he’s even given it an August 10, 2011 release. This one is War Horse , based on the Michael Morpurgo novel about Joey, a WWI horse whose “heart aches for Albert, the farmer’s son he left behind.” Uh…suddenly, Harvey seems a lot better !
