Source: RunPhoto / Getty Man Accuses Doctor Of Leaving 57-Inch Wire In His Body Fourteen Years Ago So one Las Vegas man unknowingly had a whole a$$ metal wire in his body, and now he wants to hold the responsible parties accountable. According to Las Vegas Review-Journal , German “OT” Ortiz lived for a decade without knowing a 57-inch metal wire was running through his body. When a doctor told him in 2015 that he needed surgery to clear blood clots, an X-ray showed the wire stretching down his aorta, from his chest to his thigh, according to his attorney James Jimmerson. Ortiz’s lawyers are now asking a jury to award him upward of $800,000 from Mark Taylor, the cardiologist who did a 2005 angioplasty, and Heart Center of Nevada, the company he runs. Ortiz is a 70-year-old man who serves as a youth pastor at Cornerstone Christian Academy and Preschool. A year ago, medical professionals removed two-thirds of the wire inside him for a heart procedure, according to Jimmerson. Now, more than 20 inches remain in his thigh. Ortiz experienced this whole fiasco when he was rushed to the University Medical Center emergency room 14 years ago after experiencing shortness of breath. Doctors explained that he had congestive heart failure and required an angiogram, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in 2016. In an angiogram procedure, a catheter is inserted through the bloodstream to spread a dye that lets doctors take photographs of blood vessels, Jimmerson explained to jurors, holding a sample of a wire used to keep the catheter stiff. In Ortiz’s situation, when the catheter was removed, a guide wire remained in his body, according to the suit. The suit alleges medical malpractice, negligent infliction of emotional distress, professional negligence, negligent hiring, training and supervision, and loss of consortium. Mark Taylor’s lawyer, Patricia Daehnke, argues that another doctor must have left the wire inside Ortiz, claiming that Taylor was never informed that the guide wire had been lost. “Dr. Taylor met the standard of care and in no way was negligent or un-careful in his cardiology,” she said, pointing to notes from the procedure Taylor carried out. “We’re not here to pin responsibility on Dr. Taylor. We’re here to present the evidence to you.” Jimmerson asked jurors to hold Taylor and his company accountable for causing “pain, anxiety and the probability of future surgery for blood clots.” “A doctor must pay careful attention during a procedure,” Jimmerson said. “If a doctor does not pay careful attention during a procedure, the doctor is responsible for the injuries caused.”
Source: Angelo Merendino / Getty A Harmless Offense Ends In Stitches One New York bus rider went OFF when a passenger tried to put her humanely paws on her dog, so much so that the dog owner slashed the passenger with a knife. The scene went down in the Bronx on a BX2 bus at around 2:15 p.m. on Monday. Imzadi Henriquez was the unfortunate victim of the dog-owner’s blade. “I put my hand out so the dog could smell my hand,” the 22-year-old told New York Daily News. “She got mad at that and ended up smacking my hand.” Henriquez was riding the bus with her 20-year-old girlfriend, Lenora McClelland-Fraser. Henriquez says she brushed off the hand-smacking and went looking for a seat on the bus. But the dog-owner was not done with her. “Don’t touch my dog. You can’t fu**ing touch my dog. My dog is a service dog. You can’t do that,” the woman said, according to Henriquez. Henriquez then said the woman kept muttering about how she wished Henriquez’s mom would die. This struck a nerve with Henriquez since her mom recently had a health scare. When the bus stopped, Henriquez was getting ready to step off and walk away, but she heard the woman laughing and couldn’t leave it alone. “I ended up coming back on the bus to go ahead and confront her. We ended up fighting,” Henriquez said. “I don’t know who hit who first, but I then went to grab her jacket to take a swing at her. She ended up grabbing my jacket and swung at me.” Henriquez continued, “At some point, I grabbed her hair. Then she kept hitting me and hitting me and I didn’t know she had a blade in her hand until my girlfriend told me I was bleeding.” Henriquez’s girlfriend stepped in to help and the dog-owner ended up slashing her left arm, according to police sources. During the scuffle, the bus driver stopped the bus, and the dog-owner ran out and got into a green SUV taxi to ride off. Medics took the two knife victims to Lincoln Medical Center for treatment. Henriquez received stitches to close up two long gashes across her eyebrow, and a third near her ear. “I didn’t think that petting someone’s dog would have that kind of reaction and that it would escalate to that,” she said. “I’m not okay that I made the decision to go back and confront her, I can’t take that back. But I’m that person that— yeah, I probably would have done that again, honestly.” Daaamn. The police described the slasher as Black and between the ages of 30 and 35 years old. They are still on the search for the dog owner. Continue reading →
Seeing a rodent near your school’s dumpster is one thing, but finding a rat in the vending machine is another level of cringe. That was the case for students at a Delray Beach high school in Miami who said they lost their appetite after finding a rat crawling among the snacks in a vending machine. A spokesperson for the Palm Beach County School District says the principal was immediately made aware and the vending machine was locked so students couldn’t use it. The vending machine company sent out an exterminator the next day; but let’s hope they did more than remove the machine. Everyone knows that where there’s one visible rodent, there’s many more you haven’t seen.
