Comin’ Out: NBA Ref Reveals He’s Gay After Rajon Rondo’s Angry Homophobic Rant

NBA Ref Bill Kennedy Comes Out As Gay A new report on Yahoo! Sports reveals that NBA referee Bill Kennedy is gay . The news comes on the heels of an in-game homophobic rant by the Sacramento Kings guard Rajon Rondo back in early December. “I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man,” Kennedy told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. “I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are.” Commissioner Adam Silver applauded Kennedy in his effort to live his truth. “I wholeheartedly support Bill’s decision to live his life proudly and openly,” Silver told Yahoo Sports in a statement. “Throughout his 18-year career with the league, Bill has excelled as a referee because of his passion, dedication and courage. Those qualities will continue to serve him well both as a game official and as a positive influence for others. While our league has made great progress, our work continues to ensure that everyone is treated with respect and dignity.” As for Rondo’s hateful remarks: After Kennedy, 49, ejected Rondo with consecutive technical fouls in a Kings loss to the Boston Celtics, Rondo defied league protocol to immediately leave the court and began stalking Kennedy, who had retreated to a far sideline of the floor. In the game officials’ report used as part of the NBA’s investigation – which includes details provided to Yahoo Sports from National Basketball Referee’s Association general counsel Lee Seham – Kennedy and fellow referee Ben Taylor described Rondo’s post-ejection diatribe as including the statements: “You’re a mother——- fa**ot. … You’re a f—— fa**ot, Billy.” Seham reported that a third official, Bennie Adams, outside of hearing distance, “affirmed that Rondo aggressively pursued referee Bill Kennedy and had to be restrained by teammates and escorted off the floor by Sacramento team security.” Kobe got himself fined $100,000 for using the f-bomb toward a straight ref, Rondo got himself suspended for a game that will effectively cost him $86,300. Sacramento Kings to Be Sold, Moved to Seattle

The Sacramento Kings are about to be called for a traveling violation. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports has Tweeted confirmation that the Maloof family is on the verge of selling the team to a Seattle-based group of investors for $500 million. That contingent – led by Valiant Capital’s Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer – will then move the Kings to Seattle, hopefully in time for the 2013-2014 season. Seattle was home to the SuperSonics for 40 years until that team left for Oklahoma City in 2008. According to Yahoo Sports, the new owners will build a new arena for the Kings, and, until then, home games will be played in KeyArena. The Maloofs have struggled for years with their finances. They sold a majority of their Palms Casino in Las Vegas a couple years ago and have flirted before with moving the Kings elsewhere. Our apologies go out to residents of Sacramento for losing their squad. But look at the bright side: at least DeMarcus Cousins is someone else’s problem now.

BJ Penn will attempt to regain honor from Frankie Edgar in UFC 118

If Frankie Edgar didn’t feel disrespected before, then the UFC lightweight champ surely has the right to feel that way now. The UFC gods have spoken and they believe the Jersey boy is one-and-done as the 155-pound Octagon king. On August 28, UFC 118 takes place inside the TD Garden in Beantown, home of the loathed Boston Celtics. UFC 118 live stream will be available in Yahoo Sports and of course, UFC.com. In spite of entering their UFC 112 contest a 5-to-1 underdog, Edgar used his superior speed and quickness to upset Penn for his strap in Abu Dhabi. Edgar will only be a 2.5-to-1 ‘dog in his mulligan against the Hawaiian. On the other hand, speaking of heavy favorites, it’s no surprise the early money is on Randy Couture to successfully ruin James Toney’s mixed martial arts debut. For those that wanted to lay dough on Couture, it will cost you, because the UFC Hall of Famer is a 7-to-1 favorite to rain on Toney’s parade.
