Ashton Kutcher’s Space Trip: What Other Adventures Does $200K Buy?

Kutcher could buy three trips to space for less than his per-episode fee on ‘Two and a Half Men.’ By Gil Kaufman Ashton Kutcher Photo: Getty Images When you’re a single guy in your 30s making more than $700,000 per episode on a sitcom, there isn’t much that’s out of your financial reach. Wanna go out and buy a car today with cash? Go for it. Hell, buy two! That and the actor’s “whatever, dude” attitude might explain why British adventure billionaire Richard Branson announced on his blog this week that Ashton Kutcher, 34, has signed up to be the 500th space tourist on Branson’s Virgin Galactic airlines. The suborbital spacecraft will give passengers a few minutes of weightlessness at a cost of $200,000 per ride. “I gave Ashton a quick call to congratulate and welcome him,” Branson wrote. “He is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself.” Branson expects to launch a test flight beyond the Earth’s atmosphere this year and possibly start sending commercial passengers into space in 2013 or 2014 on its six-passenger jets. Of course, that’s if things progress on track. In the meantime, we were wondering: What other kinds of outer-limits adventures or experiences Ashton could have while he’s awaiting a shot at the great beyond?

Justin Timberlake Says He Might Hit The Studio ‘This Summer’

‘I haven’t been hired for anything so I may hire myself to write some music,’ says ‘The Social Network’ star. By James Dinh Justin Timberlake Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images Time and time again, Justin Timberlake , busy with acting, has said that he wasn’t ready to return to the world of music . But with no forthcoming film gigs on his plate, it appears that the multi-talent is finally ready to make some new tunes. “I think I may spend some time in the studio this summer,” the 30-year-old singer/actor told E! Online ‘s Marc Malkin at this year’s Academy Awards. As for why 2011 is the year to return to his musical roots, J.T. explained that it’s all a matter of scheduling as he hasn’t signed on to any other project. “I’m unemployed right now,” he admitted. “I haven’t been hired for anything so I may hire myself to write some music. … It’s right around the corner.” While Timberlake hasn’t put out a solo album since 2006’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, the pop star has collaborated with a range of other artists, including Madonna, Rihanna and Ciara, on their material. In November, Drake also teased a possible collaboration with the pop megastar, saying, “I’ve always wanted to work with him and it’s in the works right now; me and Justin Timberlake will probably have a song soon.” Just a few months ago, Timberlake opened up about his fans’ response to his shifting career trajectory. “They’re looking at me like, ‘Why aren’t you staying with one path?’ ” he told the Los Angeles Times. “They look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film.” The pop star explained that he wanted to hold off on recording new music to develop his ideas. “I want to conceptualize something a little bit more,” he said. “And it’s probably because of the experience I’m having working with directors and screenwriters and getting to play cool characters. If that means I come up with, like, my version of ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ so be it. Who knows? What I’ve learned from acting in movies, I want to apply to music and see what happens.” Who should J.T. collaborate with on his new album? Share your suggestions below! Justin Timberlake Wants To Be An ‘Actor,’ Not A ‘Movie Star’

Fans ‘look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film,’ JT says. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Timberlake Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images Justin Timberlake keeps finding box-office success with roles in animated flicks like “Yogi Bear” . And with so much buzz around his film “The Social Network,” in which he plays Napster founder Sean Parker, you might think that Timberlake has left the world of music behind for Hollywood. But JT knows that you want him to put out more music. “They’re looking at me like, ‘Why aren’t you staying with one path?’ ” he told the Los Angeles Times, referring to his fans’ response to his shift in careers. “They look at me like I’m ungrateful for my music career because I want to do film.” Timberlake explains that he always wanted to act, even before selling millions and millions of albums with ‘NSYNC, and he admits that when he left ‘NSYNC fans were just as riled up when he embarked on his hugely successful and now revered solo career. “I faced the same feelings when I went solo,” he explained. “I had the same obstacles in music. I still do. But I feel like I should pose the question to everyone else: If you had this opportunity, what would you do with it? Entertaining is in my blood. I make no bones about the fact that I have always wanted to work in the forum of film. I take this seriously. I’ll be 30 in January, and I’m saying to myself, ‘If I’m going to do this, I need to do it now.’ ” What it boils down to for Timberlake is that he doesn’t just want to be famous at whatever he does — he wants to do it and see what happens regardless of the fan response. “I don’t know what a pop ‘career’ is. I just wanted to be in music,” Timberlake said. “I don’t necessarily crave to be a movie star. I just want to be an actor. I don’t look at it as a career — I just feel lucky. That’s not to say I’m going to take every opportunity that comes up. But now I have more chance to plot out a path.” Timberlake says that when the time is right and he can make it work for him again, he’ll go back to recording music. “I want to conceptualize something a little bit more,” he said. “And it’s probably because of the experience I’m having working with directors and screenwriters and getting to play cool characters. If that means I come up with, like, my version of ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ so be it. Who knows? What I’ve learned from acting in movies, I want to apply to music and see what happens.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Justin Timberlake MTV Rough Cut: ‘The Social Network’ Related Photos Acting, Log-Rolling, Quilting: Justin Timberlake Can Do It All Related Artists Justin Timberlake
