Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Finds Its Mary Todd

Mary Elizabeth Winstead might have been passed over for The Avengers (love ya, Mary Elizabeth, but Team Cobie all the way!), but it appears she hasn’t been left out of the franchise sweepstakes. The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World star has reportedly landed the lead female role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter . Winstead will play Mary Todd opposite Benjamin Walker’s vampire killing president. Expect every geek you know to be very excited about this news. [ THR /Heat Vision ]

Could Ryan Murphy’s New FX Project American Horror Story Be Good For Glee?

Just two days after Fox aired a mediocre episode of Glee entitled “The Comeback,” co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Fulchack have announced their own comeback. The pair are returning to the network’s cable offshoot FX — where they created Nip/Tuck — to film a mysterious pilot called American Horror Story . While no details were given about the subject matter of the project — other than the fact that the hour-long drama will begin production in April — we here at Movieline HQ think that the diversion might actually be the perfect remedy for the creators of Fox’s tired musical series.

Report: Mila Kunis to Join James Franco in Sam Raimi’s Oz

Everyone’s favorite Oscar-snubbee Mila Kunis is reportedly set to join Sam Raimi’s Oz, the Great and Powerful , the lonnnnng-gestating Wizard of Oz prequel with James Franco attached as the title character. Kunis would play Evanorah, the young witch-in-training who develops into the Wicked Witch of the East. Of course. Shooting is rumored to begin in July, but I think we all know Raimi’s protracted dawdling really portends an awesome Oz / Sex and the City 3 Memorial Day showdown in 2016. Or something. [ Vulture ]

DVD: The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who May Have the Most Outrageous Movie Title Ever

With Shout! Factory releasing the Mystery Science Theater 3000 take on Ray Dennis Steckler’s horror musical The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies on DVD this week — coming on the heels of the widespread acclaim for Sundance midnight entry Hobo with a Shotgun — it seemed like as good a time as any to look at some of the most unwieldy, memorable, and occasionally even poetic movie titles ever concocted. VIDEO: So That’s Why Hereafter Was Nominated for an Oscar

Perhaps in response to all those people left stymied by Hereafter ‘s Oscar nomination for visual effects (especially when Tron: Legacy got shut out of the category, poor thing), Warner Bros. have released a shot-by-shot reel showing how VFX supervisor Michael Owens and Scanline VFX put together that nine-minute opening tsunami sequence. And when you see how the live-action parts came together combining CG, green screen, water tanks, and on-location photography — well, “Oscar-nominated Hereafter ” doesn’t sound so silly anymore.

Humor! Action! Kat Dennings! Now THIS is a Thor Trailer!

Can we all agree that the Thor marketing materials thus far have been a little less than thrilling? Good. Because now we really have something to look forward to from the Kenneth Branagh-directed Marvel actioner — an epic-scale tent pole set on two worlds with a sense of humor about itself, lots of swirling, hammer-smashing action, fantastical villains and creatures to ogle, and the acknowledged fetishizing of Chris Hemsworth’s abs.

Naked Ping Pong Trumps Stars in A Girl Walks into a Bar Trailer

The trailer for Sebastian Gutierrez’s A Girl Walks into a Bar features of a number of faces you may recognize, including Danny Devito, Josh Hartnett, Zachary Quinto, Rosario Dawson and Carla Gugino. They spend the entire trailer firing self-conscious dialogue at each other, waving around guns and sometimes doing sexy dances (not Devito, don’t worry). But really all you’re going to remember here is the room full of no-name actors playing ping-pong totally naked.

Justin Bieber’s Abortion Quote Gets Rolling Stone Correction

Remember when the Internet had a collective meltdown over what Justin Bieber said about abortion to Rolling Stone ? Well, the magazine apparently made a slight “editing error” (their words) when it came to his answer. “The full quote, his response to whether abortions should be allowed in cases of rape, reads: ‘Um. Well, I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason . I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.'” Do with this information what you will. [ Rolling Stone ]
