Insect Eggs Look Amazing Up Close (Pics)

Image via National Geographic Insect eggs are neat, but we had no idea they looked this neat. Gizmodo points us to a phenomenal slideshow of insect eggs photographed from and ant-eye view, making the less-than-2-millimeter eggs look other-worldly. Artists Recycle Lottery Tickets into Stuff They’d Buy

An H3 Hummer built with $39,000 worth of discarded lottery tickets. All photos via Ghost of a Dream . Each year, millions of lottery tickets are sold to people who dream of winning big — but the vast majority of the time, those tickets end up being just pricey bits of trash. Do We Really Need Sculptures in Nature to Remind Us of People’s Place in It?

Part of sculptor Antony Gormley’s “Horizon Field” installation in the Austrian Alps. Photo via the BBC . Hikers huffing and puffing to reach a remote, secluded spot in the Alps this summer may be a bit disappointed as they approach to see a figure already there ahead of them, enjoying the view. San Francisco prepares to build its first space port

With a rocket ship about to land by the Bay, can Starfleet Headquarters be far behind? Help San Francisco build its first space port – and support the arts, too! The Black Rock Arts Foundation writes: The 40-foot-tall art piece, The Raygun Gothic Rocketship, offers rococo-futuristic, highly-stylized vision of space travel circa 1930's-1940's science fiction and is the latest in a series of temporary public art exhibitions sponsored by BRAF with the aim of enlivening and activating public spaces. The installation first landed at Burning Man 2009, and has subsequently appeared at NASA Ames for Yuri's Night, and at Maker Faire. The piece is comprised of a single rocketship, poised as if to board passengers for a typical run to a nearby stellar destination. When installed in San Francisco, the sculpture will be accompanied by a descriptive exhibit, a “rocket stop”, which tells the story of the rocketship, provides route, schedule and other information. The installation will be illuminated for nighttime viewing. We need your support!!! Want to donate to the arts, and help build a rocket stop where cosmonauts can grab some lunch before heading back to the stars? As noted in Popup City , then the tourists can do what tourists do, like randomly change direction and walk into things while looking up instead of ahead…. Read the full story on TreeHugger
