Source: Sony / THE MRKT Jay Ellis is a busy busy man. Not only did he recently complete the third season of Insecure, he’s also got a few films in the works. The 36-year-old TV heartthrob is currently starring in the long awaited Top Gun sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick” and in 2019, we can expect to see him on the big screen in Escape Room . Escape Room tells the story of six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control and must use their wits to survive. What was initially a race to a huge cash prize turned into a desperate fight for their lives and according to Ellis, he loved every minute of shooting it. Escape Room will be the first time fans will get to see Ellis in an action film. According to the star, you’ll get to see him do martial arts, scale walls and so many other things we have not gotten to see him do on Insecure or The Game. (I mean, sex scenes are nice…really nice… but a fight scene? We can definitely dig that!) Source: Sony / THE MRKT Jay Ellis took a moment from his busy schedule to chat with Global Grind about the Escape Room film and who he’d choose to do an Escape Room with. He says that his very first escape room experience was after he got the role in this movie (which he shot last year so if you’re wondering, no his schedule did not interfere with Insecure ). When asked about three celebrity friends he’d choose to help him master his escape room Jay Ellis chose: Idris Elba because he’s strong, chiseled and smart. These are all great things you’d want in someone you’re trusting your life with. John Legend is also very smart. They don’t call him the Legend for nothing. Niecy Nash will keep things fun and she’s very motivating. Motivation is key when trying to figure out puzzles and complete obstacles in an escape room. Niecy Nash is an amazing choice. When asked who he absolutely would not take on his Escape Room adventure, Jay Ellis says he’ll need to leave Neil Brown Jr. aka Chad from Insecure, at home. According to Jay, it’s much too risky. He and Neil are real live friends and they’d probably spend the entire time goofing off with each other to really get anything done. You gotta respect it. Source: EA Sports / EA Sports Madden NFL’19 is just days away now, and the hype is building for the latest installment in the famed video game franchise. Last week EA Sports unveiled the game’s hip-hop fueled soundtrack , and today we get the first ad for the game, and it features some big names. Nothing screams its Madden season more than the games over the top commercials that are never short on star power. Madden NFL’15 featured the hilarious Kevin Hart and Dave Franco to help get the masses hyped for the unofficial start of football season. This year the folks at EA take it to another level with the latest spot which features Lil Dicky, Saturday Night Live’s Chris Redd, Nicki Minaj , Quavo who also alongside his two friends penned the official song for the game, Philadelphia 76er’s all-star center and NBA Live’19 cover boy Joel Embiid and the Houston Texans DeAndre Hopkins. In the 3:37 commercial, Redd tells the story of Will, and his legendary play call the won him an extremely close game. The grand tale features Minaj revealing she is a huge Madden fan and shares her rather epic Gamertag. Embiid makes a cameo playing as his hometown champs the Philadelphia Eagles on the Madden NFL Overdriv e mobile game. Quavo gets involved after Will accidentally calls the rapper while celebrating his victory with some epic trash talk and decides to put him on a song. To cement Will’s legend, DeAndre Hopkins immortalizes the Madden gamer’s face by making it into a diamond pendant. We honestly really want to see if Nicki does play Madden regularly or was that just a line for the commercial. BUT nevertheless, the spot carries on the tradition of memorable Madden commercials. Madden NFL’19 lands on shelves August 10th, if you pre-ordered the games Hall of Fame edition, you can play three days early on August 7th. Leonard Roberts Talks New Space Comedy On Brown Sugar A new comedy reimagines futuristic space travel through the perspective of 1970s era Blaxploitation. “BlackStar Warrior” tells the story of Tyson Roderick, a space traveler, who along with his robot sidekick, Lava, try to unravel the mystery of where he came from and why he’s just so freaking amazing. And its star Leonard Roberts told us that the show’s over the top premise allowed him to go all out. “It gave me permission to go full out, because we had authenticity at both ends,” Roberts said. “For whatever reason, Those types roles don’t often just cross my desk, so it was cool to just jump in with both feet and have a ball with it.” Peep the show’s trailer above. “BlackStar Warrior” premieres June 24 on Bounce TV’s streaming service, “Brown Sugar.”
Source: Dan MacMedan / Getty Mary J. Blige will be seeing ghosts in her next movie project. According to Variety , he Mudbound star has just signed on for the new flick Body Cam. It’s a horror-thriller that tells the story of several LAPD officers who are haunted by a malevolent spirit. Their haunting is tied to the murder of a Black kid by two White police officers — all of which was captured on body cam footage that was destroyed in a cover-up. Mary J. will play a police officer who starts to see visions and investigates the cover-up. Malik Vitthal , who directed the John Boyega- led Imperial Dreams , is set to direct Body Cam , while the script has gone through rewrites from John Ridley ( 12 Years A Slave ) and Nick McCarthy from a script originally penned by Richmond Riedel. The Get Out -esque movie could be another big move for Mary J. Blige following her Oscar nomination for her role in Mudbound. Along with Body Cam , she’ll also be starring in the Netflix show The Umbrella Academy. Seems like M.J. is taking on the industry full steam and we’re totally here for it!
