Justin Bieber Goes Home, Recalls His Roots

In ‘All Around the World’ NBC special, Bieber shares, ‘It’s important I never forget where I came from.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on his “All Around The World” special Photo: Last time on Justin Bieber ‘s primetime special, “All Around the World,” the singer’s camp worried about him after he fell down some stairs following a concussion he suffered running into a glass wall during his performance in Paris. Well, on part two of the NBC special, fans get to see just what happened next. “He’s got a nice little bump. Doctors said he should be OK,” his manager, Scooter Braun, shares. “It just scared me in general when he was nonresponsive. … In that moment, when he was not waking up, that was scary.” While Braun was concerned about the star’s wellbeing, later on, Bieber is shown being mostly concerned about whether you can see the bump he got in the process. After wrapping up his time in Paris, Bieber embarks on more dates in Italy and Spain, where he meets more screaming, crying fans. “The team is definitely like a family. There’s never a dull moment,” Bieber says of his tour crew. “Seeing fans is always the most important to me,” he later says of his devotees. “I wouldn’t be in this position without them. Sometimes it can get really chaotic … but I go out of my way.” In addition to traveling the globe with his tightknit road family, in Spain, Bieber is joined by his little sister and dad. “Just being able to come back at the end of the night and see my little sister, it’s amazing,” he shares. While he has folks like his crew and family to keep him grounded, the pandemonium he causes everywhere he goes never lets up. Mexico City is next on the schedule. “I miss home … but it’s all worth it. I get to do so many other things that I wouldn’t get to experience. It’s been really a blessing,” he says. “I have definitely changed over the last few years, and I think it’s for the good. I think that I’m getting more mature. But as far me as a person, I think I’ll always be the same person.” Later on, Bieber visits his hometown in Canada. While there, he performs on the same street corner where he used to play before he was famous, noting how “weird” it is to do his own song there rather than a cover. “For me, it’s important I never forget where I came from,” he says. His trip around the globe ends in the Big Apple, where he prepares for a number of appearances and shows, including his now-infamous performance at the Apollo Theater , which he finished unplugged after losing power. “I want to go someplace Michael [Jackson] performed,” he says in the lead-up to the performance. Instead of shutting it down, Bieber continued the show with a sing-along and a dance battle, much to the delight of his fans. “My fans, to me, mean the world. I’m very blessed, and I have all my Beliebers to thank for that,” he notes. “I never thought that I would be in the position that I am now. I think that it’s so important that if you have a dream to just believe.” While in New York City, he also appeared on his very own MTV special, “Bieber Live,” where he opened up about his just-released new album, Believe . Kings Of Leon’s Caleb Followill And Wife Welcome Baby

Dixie Pearl Followill was born on Thursday in Nashville. By Gil Kaufman Lily Aldridge and Caleb Followill Photo: Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill and his wife, model Lily Aldridge , welcomed their first child, Dixie Pearl Followill, on Thursday in Nashville. According to People magazine, the bouncing bundle of joy arrived at the rock-star hour of 1 a.m., weighing a healthy 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 22 inches long. “Mom, dad and baby are happy, healthy and enjoying their new addition,” a spokesperson for the band told the magazine. The couple were married in Santa Barbara, California, in May 2011 at San Ysidro Ranch after dating for more than two years. The birth of the couple’s daughter puts a happy cap on what was, by all accounts, a rather tumultuous year for the Kings. After releasing the Come Around Sundown album to modest reviews and sales, the band picked a fight with “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy (who would subsequently apologize for calling the band “self-centered a–holes”) and released the well-received documentary, “Talihina Sky.” Last summer included a much-publicized incident at a Dallas concert in which Followill claimed to suffer a bout of “heat exhaustion,” leading to the band scrapping the remainder of their U.S. tour and calls from his bandmates to enter rehab to deal with a reported alcohol problem. They returned to the road in September for a run of Canadian shows. They wrapped the year with a tour of Australia and a pair of Grammy nominations: Best Rock Album for Sundown and a Best Long Form Music Video nom for “Talihina Sky.” Related Artists Kings Of Leon

Justin Bieber: Six Degrees Of Believe

MTV News dissects how Drake, Nicki Minaj, Big Sean and Ludacris ended up on Bieber’s new album. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber’s Believe Photo: Justin Bieber reached deep into the hip-hop community for the collaborations on his just-released Believe . But, his producers on the album leave just as much a stamp on the sound of the recording as his lyrical comrades do on what it says. For that reason, while Bieber remains the star of the release, it’s hard not to hear the ladies and gentlemen who worked with the 18-year-old. The collaborations stand as one of the hallmarks of the album. Believe sounds like a who’s who of music’s A-list elite, who give Bieber the backup he needs to make a more mature musical statement . With names like Big Sean, Nicki Minaj, Drake and his old pal Ludacris all making cameos, their appearances are highlighted by production credits with pop and hip-hop masters like Diplo, Rodney Jerkins, the Messengers, Mike Posner, Max Martin and Hit-Boy. Looking at the roster of talent who wanted to work with the maturing pop stud, you find they are mostly artists and producers who have not only been circling Bieber for some time, but also each other. In fact, it’s easy to connect these folks in six degrees of separation: Drake and Nicki Minaj are no strangers to working with one another, having appeared most recently on “Make Me Proud” off Drake’s Take Care . Nicki has also hooked up with Hit-Boy for several tracks on her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded . And, Hit-Boy’s association with G.O.O.D. Music was famously catalogued on Jay-Z’s and Kanye West’s “N—as in Paris,” which makes him a close, personal friend of Big Sean . Big Sean’s Believe track, “As Long As You Love Me,” got the production treatment from Rodney Jerkins , who previously worked with Ludacris on his song “What Them Girls Like,” which brings us back to Bieber: Bieber and Luda originally laid the foundation for a beautiful friendship on the teen’s defining tune “Baby.” Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, explained the generation of all of the collaborations to MTV News: “Kanye was like, ‘You should get Big Sean on that record.’ And we’re close with Sean, and Sean just jumped on there. It was very natural,” Braun recalled. “Luda, of course, we did ‘Baby.’ We played ‘All Around the World,’ and we were like, ‘Who would make sense?’ And Justin’s like, ‘Luda would kill it.’ “Nicki was getting on another one of our records, and then we did ‘Beauty and the Beat,’ and she heard it, and she was like, ‘I want to get on that.’ And, actually, we were gonna put Usher on it at first, but then we heard Nicki’s verse, and we were like, ‘Damn.’ ” Of course, those collaborations came up a bit more spur of the moment, but there’s one that had been long in-the-works. “The Drake thing is something he and Drake have been talking about for like two years,” Braun said. “And then they finally went into the studio, and they wrote that song together. … I’m glad that ‘Right Here’ came about. … Drake was like, ‘I don’t want to do just a rap song. I want to sing with you, do a song for the ladies.’ Everyone seems to love that song.” Which is your favorite collaboration on Believe ? Share your pick below! Justin Bieber’s Live MTV Special: What You Didn’t See!

MTV News takes you behind-the-screams of ‘Bieber Live.’ By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber sits with fans during “Bieber Live” Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — If you weren’t a teenage girl during the “Total Request Live” era of the late ’90s and early 2000s, watching Justin Bieber take over MTV’s famed Times Square studio Tuesday night for “Bieber Live” was definitely a lesson in what that era was all about. “TRL” loaded girls into a room to get them up-close-and-personal with their teen dreams, and “Bieber Live” did that and then some for 100 lucky Beliebers. Deafening screams filled the room from the moment the audience was loaded into the studio. But when Bieber walked in, well, that was a different story. The screams were heightened to (or perhaps surpassed) levels that haven’t been heard since the days of Backstreet and Britney. Justin kicked off the show with a performance of “Die in Your Arms” from his brand-new release, Believe. As fans clapped and sang along to the acoustic performance, the excitement in the room was palpable. And things got swagged out to the next level when Bieber dropped the mic at the end of the stripped-down performance, much to the delight of his devotees in the room. It was so loud in the room that the audience couldn’t even hear Bieber talking during the show. After the first act wrapped up, the 18-year-old got a pep talk from his manager, Scooter Braun, while his faithful fans looked on. But the commercial break wasn’t all business: Bieber also gave high-fives to fans and joked around with them as well. When the show came back, Bieber turned on the charm once more, even partaking in a friendly game of “2 Truths and a Lie,” during which lucky fans got to stand next to him and try and prove their Bieber knowledge. Yes, they got to stand next to him (and MTV News’ very own Sway Calloway, which we’re sure they were equally enthused by). During the next commercial break, Bieber gave more high-fives to everyone before stepping away from the set for a minute and taking a little break. For the next act, the room was silent as the singer talked all about his music. Looking around at the crowd, you could see girls silently crying and screaming on the inside, just completely overwhelmed by the fact that they were feet away from their idol. Sway and Bieber chatted for a second and had a bit of a man-to-man before the last segment of the show, and Bieber even showed off his smooth moves as he danced around for a bit and the cameras started rolling one last time. As the show wrapped up, Bieber hung around long enough to spend some time with his fans, who traveled from far and wide to attend the show. He took pictures and made conversation, proving that Bieber truly understands what keeps him on top. Stick with MTV News all week as we roll out more from our exclusive “Bieber Live” interview! Nicki Minaj Recruits 2 Chainz For Her Pink Friday Tour

2 Chainz, who is currently touring with Drake, will join the Young Money queen for the North American leg starting in July. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images When 2 Chainz and YMCMB hook up, good things are bound to happen. With only two more dates left on Drake ‘s Club Paradise run, it was announced on Tuesday (June 19) that Drizzy’s tourmate, 2 Chainz, will be joining Nicki Minaj on the North American leg of her Pink Friday Tour . The two first hooked up on Nicki’s “Beez in the Trap” single earlier this year, but their relationship actually dates back to around 2008, when the both were on the road with Lil Wayne. “I’ve known Nicki for a minute; I met her on the I Am Music Tour, the first leg with Wayne,” 2 Chainz told MTV News in April. “It was cool, we had a great relationship, we used to talk, trip out here and there.” “He’s an amazing dude, very hard worker,” Nicki told us in April. Their camaraderie was evident in the “Beez in the Trap” video as Minaj shared a dance with the Atlanta MC. Nicki has been known to give lap dances to guests during her shows, so don’t be surprised if she and Tity Boi share a special moment or two when they hit the road in Chicago on July 16. The news comes a day after 2 Chainz and Drake dropped their video for “No Lie.” The rising single is the first off his upcoming solo debut Based on a T.R.U. Story, which is slated to drop on August 14, two days after he and Nicki wrap up their last scheduled date in Vancouver, B.C. Are you planning to catch Nicki Minaj and 2 Chainz on tour this summer? Justin Bieber MTV Special Will Be A ‘TRL’ Throwback!

‘We have some surprises,’ manager Scooter Braun teases about ‘Bieber Live’ airing tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Peter Wafzig/ Getty Images If you’re wondering what to expect from Tuesday night’s (June 19) MTV special, “Bieber Live,” you need only think back to the days of “Total Request Live.” Justin Bieber ‘s manager, Scooter Braun, has fond memories of the biggest stars visiting “TRL” to promote their latest record or movie back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and he wanted to capture some of that flavor tonight’s show, airing at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Bieber is set to sit down with host Sway Calloway and some of his most devoted Beliebers as they celebrate the release of his brand-new album, Believe. And if Bieber talking about his latest LP isn’t enough, know that he’ll also be performing! Braun is keeping the details about the special top secret, but did have a little tease for fans. “So, he’s gonna come in, he’s gonna do ‘Boyfriend’ and he’s probably gonna do something broken-down acoustic — a new version of one of the songs — and we have some surprises,” Scooter told us. “And we’re gonna have some fun. We want to bring it back to the old ‘TRL’ [days]. When we caught up with him last Friday, Braun also opened up about the conversations he had with Bieber as the teen star began recording tracks for his highly anticipated release. He noted that the album’s sound reflects more than just a transition: It shows the 18-year-old’s evolution. “I think a lot of times with big superstars they don’t always deliver on that big album,” he said. “They don’t meet the expectation … sometimes it’s because they’re [already] superstars. Maybe they think they know it all and they don’t want to listen to anyone else’s input, and sometimes that works and sometimes that doesn’t. “He’s growing and so is his music,” Braun later added . “And I don’t think he’s transitioning and losing any fans. I think he’s just growing. We always study Michael Jackson, and the thing I loved about his career is he never lost that 2-year-old that bounced to his music. But at the same time, you’d go to a club and there were adults bouncing also. And I think that’s what we want to do with Justin.” Don’t miss “Bieber Live” tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! Drake Wants To ‘Bring People Together’ With Third Album

Toronto rapper tells MTV News he wants to have ‘a real impact on the world’ with his follow-up to Take Care. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: Every once in a while, Drake will remind us that he “got rich off a mixtape,” but now that the YMCMB rapper is coming up on his third album, he’s focused on sharing his evolution as an artist. Some of that change is a result of his experiences over the past couple of years, and his headline-making club brawl with Chris Brown this week should certainly factor in. The two entertainers clashed in a messy fight at a New York City nightclub on Wednesday after exchanging heated words. It seems fair to say that Drake, who tends to address the ups-and-downs of fame in his music, will have plenty of new material when he starts recording this third album. “I feel like with every project we do there’s growth and with every project I do, I become more comfortable with the artist I am,” Drake told MTV News’ Sway Calloway backstage at a recent stop on his Club Paradise tour . ” Take Care solidified a lot of things for me. [It’s] a list of things that would probably be too immense to go through, but it solidified a lot of things and let me know what I want to do, and who I want to be.” The Toronto rapper, who has clearly reflected on the scope of his music, added that he’s pushed boundaries way past the standards. “The music that I make is bigger than the box people try and put rappers [in],” he said. “People always try to draw me back to just rap. And — nah, I’m good. I like what I do. Period. That’s how I feel. Nobody can really do what I do or what we do, including 40 and all the producers that I’ve worked with.” Drake has already revealed that his third album will be very much influenced by recent events in his life, including his move to Los Angeles, but he also hopes it will have a lasting effect on people. “[It’s interesting] to see artists that have a real impact on the world,” he said. “We live in a generation where there is nothing necessarily to fight for politically, whereas in the Marley documentary [for example] he was fighting for peace in Jamaica. [There’s] nothing necessarily for me to step up and say I want to fight for, but there is a way for me to give moments to the world, and to bear my emotions and hope that I’m remembered as that guy who was able to bring people together. I want to be that guy. I want to bring people together.”
