Kobe Richardson Says The Crusher’s Club Helped Him Turn His Life Around The Chicago teen who went viral two weeks ago when a photo of him having his hair cut is speaking out. Kobe Richardson said the public got it wrong when they criticized Sally Hazelgrove – the woman pictured cutting his dreadlocks off – and her group, the Crusher’s Club, as well as the organization’s recent partnership with Jay Z and the NFL. The 19-year-old said Hazelgrove, has been a godsend in his life and helped him recover after he was ambushed, shot 14 times and left for dead two years ago. Check out the video above.
Wednesday marked the 18th anniversary of 9/11, a day on which thousands of lives were lost, and America’s political climate was forever changed. Countless celebrities paid tribute to the fallen — and more than a few tripped over their words while marking this most delicate of occasions. Among them was Khloe Kardashian, a seasoned veteran when it comes to both putting her foot in her mouth and fending off unwarranted criticism. We’ll leave up top you to decide which description best fits her latest controversy. As you’re probably aware, Khloe and her sisters are of Armenian descent on the side of their late father, Robert Kardashian Sr. In the past, they’ve discussed their pride in their heritage and used their platforms to raise awareness of the Armenian genocide and other matters of which many Americans might be ignorant. But as you can see, fans felt that Khloe’s latest statement of affection for her ancestors’ homeland was a bit ill-timed. Armenia had no involvement in the 9/11 attacks, but many felt that it’s a day on which all Americans should focus on their shared identity, not their individual ethnic compositions: “365 days on your calendar and you chose today to say something like this..hmm,” one fan wrote. “Be proud of your roots of course but out of all the days you tweet this today. It’s ironic given that your own brand of jeans is called ‘Good American,'” another echoed. Needless to say, Khloe’s tweet wasn’t exactly a hit with her fanbase. But hey, at least Khloe wasn’t the only one to step in it on America’s most somber day of memorial. Former Teen Mom OG star Farrah Abraham took her daughter to Ground Zero and forgot the difference between a terrorist attack and a purveyor of Buffalo chicken taquitos. “Okay, so we wanted to do, since it’s gonna be September 11, in honor of the Freedom Towers and observatory deck and everything, of 7-Eleven, we are going to do this,” she said on Instagram Live. “Wow, look at this guys,” she added, panning the camera across the 9/11 memorial. So yeah, it could have been worse for Khloe. But hey, at least Farrah’s not alone in making that particular gaffe . View Slideshow: Khloe Kardashian Shares 5 Tips for Looking Skinny AF
Back in July, the widely reviled R. Kelly was finally arrested for sex trafficking. He is accused of a slew of sex crimes, going back for years. Two major cities and the federal government have been working out something of a prosecution schedule for the disgraced rapper. Now, the notorious creep has failed to appear in court and has a new warrant issued for him. Okay, wow . The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that there’s a brand new warrant out for alleged sexual predator R. Kelly. While it’s not a shock to hear that he’s been charged with additional crimes, this no-show court appearance was in Minnesota. Kelly was charged in Minnesota back in August. He is accused of, in 2001, soliciting a 17-year-old girl to strip naked and dance, offering her $200 to do so. If true, that is deeply disgusting, fits with the many other accusations against him, and is absolutely inexcusable. Loathe as we may be to admit it, R. Kelly does have a technically valid excuse for ghosting the court in Minnesota. The good news is that his excuse is that he’s already behind bars. He’s currently in a cell, where he belongs. That prison cell is in Chicago, and no, they did not let him out so that he could wave hello to a judge in Minnesota. That’s more or less what Minnesota was expecting. According to The Hollywood Reporter ‘s characterization, this new warrant was essentially a formality. (You never know when one of those will be vital. One tainted search can invalidate a whole case, but that bench warrant would still be around) Prosecutors in Minnesota have claimed that they have been refused access to the accused sex monster. His cases in Chicago and New York remain ongoing. Attorney Steve Greenberg, who is actually willing to represent Kelly, says that he was not even contacted about this court summons. That said, he acknowledges that he is not currently registered in Minnesota. Kelly has been accused of so many sex crimes that it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of them. Over the past few years, women have come forward with stories of being seduced by the famous, wealthy rapper as young adults. One he had charmed them, Kelly would offer them a relationship — even saying that he would match their current salary if they travel with him. Unfortunately, these women have each reported that he would become more demanding over time, eventually becoming violent. These are the women who have described his “sex cult” of brainwashed women who serve his every desire. Misbehavior is punished by taking one’s phone, starving them, or allegedly with physical beatings. As horrific as that is, adult women are not his only alleged targets. Prosecutors say that he targeted young teenage girls — girls as young as 7th and 8th grade. These are not described as accidental mistakes. It is believed that he (allegedly) deliberately seeks out minor girls to groom and victimize. Much of the Chicago case focuses upon Kelly’s alleged predilection for not only statutory rape, but making home movies of his crimes. He allegedly appears on multiple videos committing statutory rape upon minors. In one video, he is described as referring to the victim’s body parts as being “14 years old” as he performs various sex acts. Hopefully, by the time that Minnesota gets Kelly in for his day in court there, he will have already been sentenced to several lifetimes behind bars. View Slideshow: R. And now, the queen of Afro Sheen and Black haircare icon has died at the age of 89. According to the Chicago Sun-Times , Johnson, the co-founder of Johnson Products Company and the makers of Afro Sheen and Ultra Sheen—passed last Friday (Sep. 6). Her oldest son, Eric G. Johnson , told the newspaper that his trailblazing mother was ‘battling a combination of medical conditions stemming from a 2005 accident that sent her through five back surgeries.” Her husband George added that he lost “the love of his life.” “I have lost a lifelong friend and partner and the love of my life,” he said in a statement. “Joan will be greatly missed by her family and all of those who have come to know her.” In 1954, Johnson and her husband George Johnson started their haircare line on the city’s South Side with a $250 investment and grew their business from $4 million in sales in 1967 to $40 million in 1976, the Sun-Times noted. Their company was one of the nation’s largest African-American owned in history. Johnson Products Company co-Founder, Joan Johnson, has passed away at 89. Johnson also served as a trustee of Spelman College and provided an annual scholarship for a select set of the HBCU’s students each year. For her son, his mother was a “pioneer. “For having such a string of ‘firsts’ and being comfortable in that environment, I look at my mother as a pioneer,” Eric Johnson said. “She and my father had no provided path. They created a path where there was none.” Adding, “Because of her, people have been able to accomplish things they maybe didn’t think they could, and they knew all the things they had to strive for.” “As [the] matriarch of the family, she was a magnet who inspired, consoled and advised people. That’s the role she’s always played in this family from me as a child right down to her great-grandchildren.” Thank you #AfroSheen Queen #JoanJohnson for the legacy of natural hair products, with the most #Afrocentric marketing campaigns and #iconic cultural commercials. pic.twitter.com/1niafQunjh — Sista Dee Barnes (@sistadbarnes) September 10, 2019 “She truly was a grande dame in every sense of the work,” said Linda Johnson Rice, CEO of Johnson Publishing Company, which formerly published Ebony and Jet magazines. “Dignified, smart, sharp-witted and fun. I have many fond memories of my conversations with her…dispensing life advice. Her life is one to be celebrated.” Joan Johnson is survived husband and three sons, a daughter Joan Johnson, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are set in Chicago this Friday. Rest in power Joan. Source: Hannah Foslien / Getty The NBA has gone through several stylistic changes over the decades, with athletes introducing their own flair to the standard uniforms at various intervals. However, those expecting the so-called “Ninja-style” headband accessory to gain traction will be disappointed to know that the league is banning the look ahead of the season. ESPN reports : Several players — including the Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, the New Orleans Pelicans’ Jrue Holiday, the LA Clippers’ Montrezl Harrell, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns and the Brooklyn Nets’ Jarrett Allen — regularly wore the headgear a season ago. The NBA never had a formal process to approve the headgear, and allowed players to wear it during the 2018-19 season because, spokesman Mike Bass told ESPN, “We didn’t want to cause a disruption by intervening midseason.” The NBA notified teams in May that the headbands wouldn’t be a part of this season’s approved uniforms. The NBA’s competition committee discussed the headwear as part of its meetings in Chicago on Monday. A source told ESPN that some members expressed concerns on safety, including the looseness of the headwear. Yeah, we don’t want any player to get injured by an errant headband on the court (insert sarcasm). — Photo: Getty
Some TV exits are more shocking than others. There are several reasons for that, but some of them just come so out of the blue that it seems there is more to the story than meets the eye. Have a look below at the 13 most shocking TV exits! 1. Nina Dobrev – The Vampire Diaries Two vampires were fighting for Elena Gilbert’s heart on The Vampire Diaries. The producers had to get creative when Dobrev announced her departure at the close of Season 6. “I don’t want to play a teenager anymore. I want to play adult roles and be challenged and work with great filmmakers and tell incredible stories and that has meant being really picky,” she later revealed to Harper’s Bazaar. Dobrev did return two years later for the series finale. 2. Ruth Wilson – The Affair Wilson played Alison on this Showtime drama. During Season 4, however, the character was murdered. Showrunner Sarah Treem later said that Wilson asked to exit the series, but Wilson countered by saying that she was not allowed to talk about why she decided to exit. Still, fans were stunned at the loss of someone who was such an integral part of the story. 3. Nicollette Sheridan – Desperate Housewives Sheridan departed Desperate Housewives under the most shocking of circumstances: Her character was killed off in a freak accident. Behind the scenes, however, it emerged that she had a falling out with series creator Marc Cherry and it was reported that he slapped her. 4. Emmy Rossum – Shameless Rossum played Fiona, the central character and glue that held all of the other characters together. However, the actress announced her departure ahead of the ninth season finale. But the show is in a bit of an uncertain place as it gears up to launch its first season without its leading lady. 5. Kim Dickens – Fear the Walking Dead Fans were up in arms when it was revealed that Kim’s character, Madison was dead. It was not a mutual decision between the actress and the new showrunners, however. “Obviously it was shocking to me and it was disappointing. It was heartbreaking,” Dickens told Entertainment Weekly about finding out her time on the show was coming to an end. 6. Monica Raymund – Chicago Fire Raymund’s Dawson got the off-screen exit treatment when the actress opted to not renew her contract. Her final arc was less than satisfying as a result. View Slideshow
