Like millions of other Americans, you might be a fan of the simple sandwiches that have made Jimmy John’s one of the fastest-growing fast food chains in the country. Unfortunately, a story that’s caught the Internet’s attention this week may forever change the way you think of cold meat pressed between two pasty white slabs. As you can see, that’s a photo of a naked man straddling a dead shark. The image has incited outrage on social media for a number of obvious reasons. Even among hunters and fishermen displaying such callous disrespect for one’s prey is considered distasteful and, well, gross. It’s one thing to pose for a photo with your kill, but quite another to grin like a maniac while humping a giant carcass. So what does this have to do with the chain that brought the world the J.J. Gargantuan? Well, there’s a theory circulating online that the animal lover in the pic is none other than Jimmy John’s founder Jimmy John Liautaud. Yes, Jimmy John really exists, and like Colonel Sanders before him, his two great passions are peddling meat and firing large weapons. Liautaud has been criticized in the past for hunting large African game and posting photos of his kills on social media. He renounced the practice in 2015, after finding himself at the heart of a growing controversy: “I choose to hunt and I choose to fish,” he explained at the time. “Everything I’ve done has been totally legal. And the meat has been eaten, if not by me than by someone I’m with. I don’t hunt big African game anymore.” But not everyone believes that Liautaud was sincere when he swore off the big kills. A very vocal contingent on Twitter and Facebook believes that’s Liautaud getting friendly with a shark he killed. Liautaud has denied that he’s the man in the photo in a statement issued to Deadspin earlier this week. (Just as we deserve to be forgiven for our bad fishing puns.) But if it emerges that Liautaud is the happy fisherman, then he just dug himself an even deeper hole by lying about it. Either way, it’s been an interesting week in the centuries-old conflict between man and shark .
David Alan Grier Cast As First Black Colonel Sanders For KFC David Alan Grier is about to make fast food history by becoming the first Black Colonel Sanders for KFC. According to Hollywood Reporter : KFC’s Colonel Sanders has undergone multiple makeovers this past year, and now he will be played by comedian David Alan Grier. The actor shared the news on his Twitter account, writing, “Breaking News: David Alan Grier has been cast as the first African American Colonel Sanders in the new KFC ad campaign.” KFC has been attempting to revitalize its brand with new ad campaigns recently. In May 2015, Saturday Night Live’s Darrell Hammond played the company’s founder in a slate of ads. Norm Macdonald sported the goatee and white suit in August, decrying other Colonel Sanders as imposters. Then came Jim Gaffigan’s turn as Sanders in a Super Bowl commercial this year. New Zealand Town Plans Bus Trip To KFC After Fire Destroyed Local Restaurant via Stuff A colonel’s road trip is being organised to help New Plymouth fried chicken fans satisfy their cravings. The New Plymouth store caught fire at the start of the month and has been closed for two weeks while it’s stripped and re-built. Whispers about a bus trip to the Hawera store this weekend surfaced yesterday after a post appeared on the KFC Facebook page asking if anyone was interested. General manager Jamie McKaughan confirmed the speculation, saying “there was a lot of truth to the rumours”. “I want to help our wonderful New Plymouth community. We’re going to put a colonel’s coach together and offer it up in a competition. We’ll put them on a bus to Hawera let them have their meal then bus them back,” he said. “It’s probably going to be at least another four weeks before the drive-through is open and another six to eight weeks before we re-open the whole story.” Lmao! REALLY?? Is it THAT serious??? In the meantime, fans of the colonel’s secret recipe having been travelling south for a fix, McKaughan said. Committed chicken lovers did the same thing in 2010 when the New Plymouth store closed while it underwent a $1.5 million upgrade. When it did re-open, less than three months later, there was a stampede on the restaurant which caused traffic chaos and waits of up to 40 minutes. Competition details are yet to be finalised but McKaughan said he hoped they would be released to the public later this week. Not sure what the black population of New Zealand is, but if this doens’t destroy the stereotype then nothing will.
