True Blood Season 7 Episode 7 Recap: The Return of Bookie!!!

So, let us get this straight… On True Blood Season 7 Episode 7 , Sookie called in a doctor to examine Bill. She got scared of Sookie’s bloodline… which prompted Sookie to call in her fairy godfather… who ate some spaghetti… who promised to help Sookie… who then told her he could NOT help her… which inspired Sookie to jump back into bed with Bill. While many viewers may be celebrating the naked reunion of Bookie, a great many others may be sharing in our consternation over just how boring and filler-filled True Blood Season 7 has become. Does a single person out there care about Bill’s pointless flashbacks? Is there any doubt the writers are using these each week because they literally just need time to fill? What about Adilyn and Wade, two characters we didn’t know at all last season? They seem nice and all, but is anyone sitting on the edge of his or her seat any time the story shifts to their (non-kinky) lovemaking and threats from Violet? Heck, what about Arlene? We all love Carrie Preston in this role, but she’s been a side character for years and now she’s practically receiving more screen time than Eric. There are simply no stories left to tell, that much is obvious. The show keeps spinning its wheel each Sunday night, with barely anything happening and with absolutely no final season-like drama taking place. That random Sarah Newlin hallucination lasted for multiple minutes! What is going on here?!? To recap the actual events, snark-free: Sookie had sex with Bill, wanting to take advantage of every last second together. Eric agreed to help the Asian bad guys hunt down Sarah and synthesize her blood, in exchange for 49% of their company and a role as their spokesman. Andy and Holly broke down as they continued to pursue their kids. Violet gave Wade and Adilyn a sex room to use and then attacked them. Hoyt returned with his hot girlfriend and identified his mother’s body. Jason seemed very into this hot girlfriend. Sam contemplated leaving Bon Temps with Nicole. Arlene slow-danced with vampire Keith because she’s infected and can’t have sex with him. Lafayette and Lettie Mae started digging up Tara’s childhood home’s backyard. What did everyone else think of this truly horrid True Blood episode?

TRIBECA: Steph Green’s ‘Run And Jump’ Has Get Up And Go (And ‘SNL’ Alum Will Forte)

In helmer Steph Green’s debut feature, Run and Jump , a family must adjust to life with father  —  specifically, a father who has suffered brain damage from a stroke, and who returns home with a camera-toting medical researcher in tow.  The wife of the stroke victim  —  an extraordinarily vibrant, red-haired mother of two and a warm, coaxing hostess to the uptight researcher  —  helps the household accommodate the strangers in its midst. Skirting traumatic turmoil, Run  discovers reserves of strength and joie de vivre that could prove irresistible to European and American auds. The pic begins  in medias res  with Venetia ( Maxine Peake ) picking up her husband, Connor ( Edward MacLiam ), from the hospital where he spent a month in a coma and four months in recovery, and then collecting Ted Fielding ( Will Forte ), the American psychologist who will become the family’s houseguest and record Connor’s progress through the lens of his camera. Connor’s medial frontal lobe damage immediately makes itself felt in myriad unsubtle ways. The formerly skilled carpenter withdraws into a solipsistic state, totally absorbed in producing endless impractical wooden spheres instead of the well-crafted furniture he used to sell. He ignores his wife and children and fashions a wooden fork and spoon with which to touch people and things, thereby avoiding personal contact. Movingly, helmer Green and co-scripter Aibhe Keogan carefully dole out odd moments that briefly illuminate Connor’s prior existence as a vital, responsive man, seen in quick flashbacks from Venetia’s perspective or in moments of reconnection in the present day. But Connor is not alone in his slow emergence from isolation. Ted, at first keeping a fastidious distance from Venetia and the children (a young girl and a teenage boy), soon finds himself drawn in, lured out of hiding by Venetia’s vivacity as they share marijuana, a bike ride in the rain and even a kiss —  as romance, hesitant and ambiguous at first, unexpectedly blossoms. Ted also takes an interest in the kids’ activities and starts to take over as male head of the house; troubling questions of loyalty and commitment multiply as Ted becomes the go-to guy for everyone, including Connor, much to the consternation of friends and in-laws. But these conflicts also serve as enrichments, expanding the inner circle to include a compensatory member. With remarkable warmth and immediacy, Green and co-scripter Keogan have managed to capture the beauty of an obviously flawed family, one neither too perfect nor too demographically balanced to ring true, and imbue it with a sense of plenitude that seems to flow as much from the sun-drenched land itself as from the quirkily particular personalities involved. Green and lenser Kevin Richey sometimes employ a handheld camera to suggest Connor’s disorientation and the buoyant Venetia’s whirlwind energy as, bathed in light, she bustles about to avoid thinking too much. Arcade Fire’s Album Of The Year Grammy Stuns Publicist

Merge Records’ Christina Rentz recalls her awards-show experience. By James Montgomery Arcade Fire at the 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images As the week draws to a close, many still can’t believe Arcade Fire managed to trump Eminem and Lady Gaga to win Album of the Year at Sunday’s Grammy Awards . And if you’re one of those who are still coming to grips with the upset, well, you’re not alone. Turns out, even the band’s publicist can’t believe it. In fact, on Grammy night, she had made peace with the fact that Arcade Fire seemed destined to go home empty-handed. In a new Billboard.biz story, Merge Records’ publicist Christina Rentz writes that, after watching her band go 0-for-2 during the Grammy’s pre-telecast awards (they lost both Best Alternative Album and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals to the Black Keys), she was resigned to the belief that the band would lose Album of the Year, too. In fact, she thought Eminem had it sewn up. “The production value was amazing, and it was incredibly exciting to be in the room. When Eminem came onstage and blew the roof off the place, I thought we were sunk for sure,” Rentz wrote. “But Jamie [Beck, Merge’s retail director] had been saying all weekend that we were going to win. She gave me very good reasons why, but I still didn’t think it was possible. As the night wore on, she persisted in her certainty, but it wasn’t until Eminem won Best Rap Album that I felt the familiar sweaty palms again.” When Album of the Year was announced, her feelings of nervousness quickly changed to jubilation — much to the consternation of those seated around her. “Barbra [Streisand] announced the Album of the Year: ‘And the Grammy goes to … The S-S-S-S-Suburbs ? We began screaming and jumping as our section emptied out with people muttering under their breath, ‘Who is Arcade Fire?’ ” she wrote. “The band accepted the award then immediately set up for their second song, with Win [Butler, the band’s lead vocalist and songwriter] putting his Grammy on top of an amp so he could pick up his guitar … my favorite moment of the evening! “They could not stop smiling and neither could we. Together, we had accomplished something pretty incredible and hopefully inspired musicians everywhere not to compromise when it is important.” And afterwards, having bested Eminem for the night’s biggest award, Rentz and Beck did what any newly minted Grammy winner would do: They partied hard. In their own way, of course. “We then phoned our label manager Stacy ‘Spott’ Philpott and said, ‘Holy crap, what do we do now?’ ” she wrote. “I still don’t fully know the answer, but at the time, it seemed like the best thing we could do was to get in our red Mustang, throw the top down, drive to the after-party to hug our friends in Arcade Fire, high-five their manager Scott Rodger and then get back to work on Tuesday, the release date for two new albums from Telekinesis and East River Pipe.” Were you surprised by Arcade Fire’s win?
