Image via Larry French/Getty Maryland Governor Looks Into Allegations Of Graduation Fraud In PG County Prince George’s County has 5 of the top 10 richest Black neighborhoods in America according to Atlanta Black Star . It stands to reason that communities like PG County where there are stable homes and economic empowerment would likely yield an above average high school graduation rate. However, according to the Washington Post , Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is skeptical of all the #blackexcellence taking place just outside the nation’s capitol. Governor Hogan has launched an investigation into PG County school’s where there have been allegations that teachers are finessing students’ grades to increase the graduation rate. The CEO of Prince George’s County Schools, Kevin Maxwell, denies any such thing. We’re definitely gonna keep an eye on this one. If Governor Hogan doesn’t come back with some hard evidence then this whole investigation into one of the wealthiest Black communities in America is gonna look REAL funny in the light.
Rod Durham, a high school teacher who appeared on Season 4 of ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss, was found dead over the weekend in a Fort Lauderdale motel. He was 52 years old. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Durham was visiting the area during his school’s spring break. While those close to him have speculated that Durham passed away from diabetic shock, his cause of death remains undetermined at this time. “He always made everyone smile — even if you were having the worst day,” Rocky Hana, Leon County Schools administrator, told the newspaper after learning of Rod’s death. “If you saw Rod, your day got better. “His laugh was simply infectious. … Everyone loved Rod Durham. There are tens of thousands of kids today who are broken-hearted.” Durham rose to reality TV fame in 2014 as a contestant on Extreme Weight Loss. He shed over 180 pounds on the program, standing out for his positive attitude and kindness. Extreme Weight Loss trainer Heidi Powell shared a photo of herself and Durham on Instagram in light of Rod’s death and wrote the following as a caption to it: Heaven just got a lot brighter today when Rod entered the pearly gates. While I am selfishly so sad and completely devastated that I won’t get to see him on earth anymore, I am rejoicing for the spirit he is carrying with him and spreading to everyone up there. We send our condolences to Durham’s friends, family members and loved ones. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Passed Away in 2016: Gone, But Not Forgotten

DeKalb County Schools has lifted a ban on marching band activities that it instituted in December in the wake of the hazing death of Florida A&M drum major Robert Champion, a Southwest DeKalb High School graduate. In making the announcement, DeKalb County Schools Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson said the school district will continue to look into reports of inappropriate behavior in marching bands. The investigation is focused on activities of adults in charge of marching band programs. DeKalb County’s investigation began after two alleged hazing incidents at FAMU involving marching band students who had attended DeKalb Schools, including Champion. Parents and students were alarmed when the suspension was announced and worried that the action could lead to fewer scholarship opportunities. Read the full story at the AJC.com.
