Justin Fairfax of sexual assault—which he has denied. Educator and political commentator Melissa Harris-Perry is among those who have sided with Vanessa Tyson . To be very clear, I did not want to engage in oral sex with Mr. Fairfax and I never gave any form of consent. Quite the opposite. I consciously avoided Mr. Fairfax for the remainder of the Convention and I never spoke to him again,” Tyson’s statement said in part. Professor who accused Virginia Lt. Gov. The state’s governor and attorney general have admitted recently to wearing blackface in the 1980s. Tyson first approached The Post about her allegation in November 2017 after Fairfax won his election. But the newspaper said it declined to publish her story because it could not corroborate either her version or Fairfax’s recollection of exactly what happened. Tyson’s allegation was resurfaced recently by Big League Politics, a fringe right-wing news website that also published the racist photographs from Gov. Ralph Northam ’s medical school yearbook. “I know Vanessa. I taught Vanessa when she was a student #IBelieveVanessa ,” tweeted Harris-Perry. Here are tweets from more of Tyson’s supporters. I believe her. #IBelieveVanessa — Dr. Julia Marin Hellwege (@JuliaHellwege) February 5, 2019 Fairfax and Tyson first met in Boston at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. She recalled Fairfax asking her to walk with him to his hotel room to retrieve some papers. Tyson said the sexual encounter began with consensual kissing. But she said Fairfax guided her to the bed and forced her to perform oral sex. Fairfax, who was not married at the time, has described the encounter as consensual. On Monday, Fairfax threatened legal action  against Big League Politics for its “false and unsubstantiated allegations” based on Tyson’s claim. The lieutenant governor said in his statement that The Post found “significant red flags and inconsistencies” in Tyson’s story. However, the newspaper denied Fairfax’s claim about find red flags when it investigated Tyson’s allegations and underscored that it simply could not corroborate either version of the encounter.   O ne year removed from the most divisive election in modern history, voters were heading back to the ballots in a series of pivotal political contests across the country. Several intriguing battles have taken center stage and include African-American candidates. Here are six of them to watch: Atlanta Mayor Eyes are on the Atlanta mayoral race because Mary Norwood , a 65-year-old city councilwoman, has a chance to become the city’s first White mayor in more than four decades. At one point, Norwood held a double-digit lead in the polls. However, one of the latest surveys showed that one of her competitors, Keisha Lance Bottoms , has pulled ahead of her. Walsh and become the city’s first African-American mayor. The Boston branch of the NAACP released a scathing 175-page report criticizing Walsh for not keeping his promises to communities of color. One things to look for is whether Black voters will punish the mayor at the polls. I am the sum total of all who have shown me love. I want to pay it forward. #WeAreBoston #BosMayor17 https://t.co/senkkfHOJC — Tito Jackson (@titojackson) November 6, 2017 Detroit Mayor Coleman Young was Detroit’s first African-American mayor. Now his son, Coleman Young II, is trying to walk in his father’s footsteps. But he’s competing against a popular White mayor, Mike Duggan . Even though the city’s population is more than 80 percent Black, many analysts said voters wanted to give Duggan a chance to continue his economic recovery efforts. Sen. City Councilwoman  LaToya Cantrell  and former judge  Desiree Charbonnet  topped a field of 18 candidates in October to compete in a two-candidate runoff, scheduled for Nov. 18. Analyzing the road ahead,  The Advocate  reported that Cantrell, who emerged as a champion of the working-class after Hurricane Katrina, had the support of prominent individuals in the White business community. Her opponent had the backing of the city’s Democratic U.S. Rep.  Cedric Richmond , who is chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, as well as key players in New Orleans’ political establishment. However, the scheme backfired, with scores of voters and elected officials condemning the police union. Carter won the support of several top Democrats, including U.S. Sen. Al Franken. Governor Justin Fairfax , the Democratic candidate for Virginia lieutenant governor, was running for office amid racial tension within his party and from his GOP opponent. Ralph Northam , who was running for governor, created uproar in the party when he omitted Fairfax from a group of campaign fliers that lists Democrats running for statewide office. Meanwhile, Fairfax also received subtle racist attacks from the right. His Republican opponent,  Jill Holtzman Vogel , raised a question during their final debate about whether Fairfax can “talk intelligently” about issues. If Fairfax wins, he will become the first African-American elected statewide in Virginia since  Douglas Wilder  became governor in 1989. Jesus Take The Wheel: Florida Teenager Faces 11-Year Prison Sentence For Setting Classmate On Fire

A family finally gets justice three years later Florida Teenager Sentenced To 11-Years For Setting His Classmate On Fire A Florida teenager who was convicted of aggravated battery for setting his classmate on fire in 2009 was recently sentenced to 11 years in prison….even though he maintains that he is innocent. via CBS News A Florida teenager convicted of orchestrating a burning attack on a middle school classmate continued to insist on his innocence as he was sentenced to 11 years in prison Thursday. Circuit Judge Matthew Destry agreed with prosecutors that 18-year-old Matthew Bent was just as much to blame in the 2009 attack on Michael Brewer, who was soaked in alcohol and then set on fire. Brewer was 15 years old at the time. Bent was convicted of aggravated battery in June. Before he was sentenced, Bent turned and apologized to Brewer but said he was not the ringleader. “I didn’t intend for any of this to happen,” he said. “I didn’t tell nobody to do that.” Brewer survived by leaping into an apartment complex swimming pool, but suffered severe burns over two-thirds of his body. In court Thursday, he looked in good shape physically but family members said his skin grafts still cause pain and he suffers from frequent nightmares. Sounds like justice for this boy and his family was long overdue. Images via Shutterstock

Bah Humbug! Virginia-Area “Mall Santa” Lectures And Chastises Kids And Parents Who Ask For Guns For Christmas!

Santa don’t play that! Santa Claus At Virginia Mall Refuses To Give Children Guns Via Washington Post Every year, the children ask Santa for dolls, cars, games and puppies. They also ask for guns. Nerf guns, pistols, air rifles, shotguns. Even assault weapons. And that breaks this 82-year-old Santa’s heart, especially this year. Unlike the department store Santa in the 1983 movie “A Christmas Story,” who told Ralphie he would not be getting the official Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot Range Model air rifle because “you’ll shoot your eye out,” the much beloved Merrifield Garden Center Santa has a more elaborate denial. “You might get a gun from your father or your mother or grandfather, but you won’t get one from me,” he tells kids who request weapons, either real or make-believe, at the Fairfax County nursery. “Guns were put on this earth to take the life of a bird, an animal or a person. Guns were designed to make people cry, to make people die. Now, take a candy and a holy card.” At Merrifield, where Santa has been nestling children on his lap for more than 30 years, at least one child a night comes asking for a gun. And that’s not abnormal, given the role of guns in the arsenal of kid toys. But Santa remembers one child who asked for an entire arsenal: an assault rifle, a shotgun and two handguns. And he asks me not to print the awful details of one encounter that really rattled him. But let’s just say that some parents don’t agree with his quiet speech about weapons. Santa’s steadfast denial of guns as gifts, coming from a man who first dyed bedsheets red and wore a cowbell around his neck to create his uniform decades ago, is especially poignant this year. Santa’s heart is as heavy as the rest of ours are this year. “Those first-graders,” Santa tells me as he stretches his legs after all the children have gone home to bed, “you just look at them, and you think: ‘How? How could anybody, how could anybody shoot them?’ ” God bless this Santa Claus. Would you be upset if he lectured you and your children about asking for guns as Christmas toys this year???
