Skechers Trolls Nike After Infringement Lawsuit Filing

Source: Victor VIRGILE / Getty The two most unlikely footwear companies to be beefing are now in a heated legal war. Nike is alleging Skechers is copying their popular releases. As spotted on  High Snobiety the California based brand is being accused of lifting Nike’s designs from the Nike Air VaporMax and the Nike Air Max 270. So much so that the sportswear giant filed an infringement lawsuit earlier this month alleging “Skechers’ business strategy includes copying its competitors’ designs to gain market share.” Last week Skechers took out an advertisement in the  Los Angeles Times addressing the claims stating the claims are baseless. “As you may have heard, Nike filed a lawsuit against Skechers in Los Angeles alleging that those shoes infringe certain Nike patents. Please note that the lawsuit has been filed just recently and merely contains Nike’s unproven allegations. Skechers plans on defending the lawsuit vigorously and in response will deny that any of the listed styles infringe any of Nike’ patent. pic.twitter.com/RiA08BaboQ — SKECHERS USA (@SKECHERSUSA) October 14, 2019 This is not the first time Nike accused Skechers of style thievery. In 2016 they asked a judge to remove several Skechers releases from retail stores that they felt copied their patents. In what has to be considered elite corporate trolling, Skechers dropped on an advertising poking fun at Zion Williamson’s sneakers falling apart while on the court back in February. The Beef Between The NBA & China, Explained

Source: HECTOR RETAMAL / Getty The NBA was shoring up what looked to be a fruitful union with China, but now tension between the sports league and the communist nation looks to be growing by the day. After Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeted in support of Hong Kong protestors, he set off a flurry of debate regarding free speech and the price of going into business with an entity known for its rigidness. To explain the rift in full, back on October 4, Daryl Morey tweeted out support of the Hong Kong protestors who are combating an extradition bill and other restrictions that infringe on the civil rights of those living in the semi-autonomous region. This tweet came just ahead of the Los Angles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets on the schedule to play in China this week. NBA commissioner Adami Silver offered not one, but two statements to satisfy China’s concerns around Morey’s tweet. Silver did say that he would not find Morey in contempt and won’t limit free speech in the league. Morey’s tweet, which has since been deleted, angered Chinese leaders to the point of upending a potential windfall of money. China’s state-run CCTV has since suspended all NBA pre-season games after issuing a statement. “We’ve noticed NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s response to the inappropriate remarks by Houston Rockets GM Morey. We are strongly unsatisfied and opposed to Adam Silver’s claim of supporting Morey’s rights of having freedom of speech,” CCTV5, a sports channel, said Tuesday on its social media page. “We think any remarks that challenge national sovereignty and social stability are outside the category of freedom of speech.” The Rockets were one of the more popular teams in China, due in part to the team drafting now-retired star Yao Ming number one overall in 2002. Yao, now the chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association, has not made any public comments about the rift despite his history with the Rockets and the NBA. The fallout from Morey’s tweet has been substantial, with community events, ticket sales getting halted, and Chinese celebrities shouting down the Rockets and the NBA in the process. The league, which enjoys a strong following due to the aforementioned Yao’s time with Houston, also has a $1.5 billion deal to stream games with the Tencent media company, with the service blacklisting Rockets games. Further, the CBA is no longer collaborating with the Houston Rockets. Despite the apologies from Silver and from Rockets superstar James Harden, China does not appear satisfied with the team’s effort for repairing the issue. Several Chinese fans were also ousted from pre-season games featuring the Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers for holding fans that read “Free Hong Kong.” Additionally, a bipartisan group of lawmakers has urged the NBA to pull out of China, including the hosting of a training facility in Xinjiang, where it is thought that around a million Chinese minorities, the Turkic Uyghurs, are being held in so-called “re-education camps.” To underscore the seriousness of things, a CNN reporter attempted to ask Rockets players James Harden and Russell Westbrook if they will continue speaking out on social issues, most especially in the light of Morey’s Hong Kong utterance. An NBA spokesperson shut down the questioning promptly. #NEW : CNN reporter Christina Macfarlane ( @chrissymacCNN ) is quickly shut down by the Houston Rockets' media officer as she tries to ask a question about the NBA's ongoing standoff with China. pic.twitter.com/FP6jgBHUwu — Alex Salvi (@alexsalvinews) October 10, 2019 — Photo: Getty

Angela Bassett Looked BANG-ing At The Missoni Book Launch Event In Los Angeles

Source: Charley Gallay / Getty Angela Bassett remains a timeless beauty and reminds us each time she steps out for an event or red carpet moment. This time it was to support her friend, Angela Missoni, Creative Director and President of the brand Missoni. The occasion was for the launch of the book Missoni: The Great Italian Fashion . Source: Charley Gallay / Getty Angela Bassett looked absolutely stunning! The actress was wearing a Missoni Suit mixed with reddish-browns, purples, blue, and green. The long lined jacket was slimming on Bassett and the glitzy palm tree print made the star stun. She paired it with metallic red heels and a silver minutiae. She served a smokey eye and a brown lip. However, the best part of her look was her straight shoulder length hair with bangs. I love bangs on Bassett and this look was everything! Romeo Hunte’s Spring/Summer 2020 Collection Is Updating The Definition Of ‘Business Attire’

Read more from the original source:

For his S/S 2020 collection held at Pier 59 Studios on Sunday, Romeo Hunte explored deconstructionism and the definition of “business attire.” Amongst a star-studded crowd, fashion insiders gathered to see what the Brooklyn-based designer would bring to the fashion masses. The juxtaposition of the collection showed Hunte’s desires to blend two worlds together — streetwear and business wear. The collection featured everything from oversized abstract-print blazers over cuffed denim shorts to parka trench coats where one half was a striped blazer and the other half was a denim jacket. Source: Ron Adar / Getty Hunte has always been one to use juxtaposition in his collection, perhaps to show that fashion doesn’t have to be so straight and narrow and that multiple identities can co-exist. While that is understandable and commendable, there was seemingly a disconnect between a few of Hunte’s pieces or rather their pairing, such as a denim shearling-laced jacket overtop an abstract crop top and leather mini skirt. Source: Ron Adar / Getty Some looks, like one male model who walked the runway with a black blazer stitched into jeans one piece, almost would have operated better as separates to co-exist with other pieces in the wardrobe. I constantly reminded myself that this was for the Spring and Summer, but most of the collection felt like a New York block party instead of an accessible way to dress for summer Fridays at the office. Source: Ron Adar / Getty There were models in one-legger fits, the bodice split in half and held together by silver metallic rings and exposed zippers. Again, the idea of merging two very prominent markets is extremely doable, but the main question becomes who is the target consumer or the ideal celebrity clientele. To bring streetwear to the luxury market, as Hunte cites his clientele to be, the fabric choice has to reflect the target market and creatively, a flow should take place. Source: Ron Adar / Getty Don’t get me wrong, there were a few moments of potential with some of his fringe parks, abstract sets, and tailored crop blazers. There was a black-and-white dress that offered promise to the traditional and trendsetter, and he had a bold yellow and a bold red suit make their debut for those of us who love a pop of color. While the pieces individually can be pulled apart to make some interesting connections, I would have loved to see more business-skewed formal sets with a bit of street funk on them to show more accessible opportunities for those who work the 9-5. Mass Shootings Expose Which Presidential Candidates Don’t Support Domestic Terrorism Bills

Originally posted here:

I f it wasn’t clear following last week’s mass shooting in Gilroy, California , this past weekend’s back-to-back weekend shootings in El Paso , Texas, and Dayton , Ohio, respectively, exposed the nation’s lack of laws for domestic terrorism. But with officials announcing that the El Paso shooting that killed 20 people would be treated as domestic terrorism , the deadly gun violence also exposed which presidential candidates have thrown their support behind domestic terrorism legislation that has stalled in Congress. Many politicians and pundits alike tend to use deadly episodes like the three mass shootings in the past two weeks as reasons to ramp up the rhetoric for tighter gun laws, but Senate Democrats have already taken that talk a step further by introducing Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin ’s Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019 back in March. S.894 has 19 co-sponsors. But that number was only made up of half the presidential candidates who are also Senators: New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker , California Sen. Kamala Harris , Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Bernie Sanders . Conspicuously missing from that list were three other presidential candidates who are Senators: Michael Bennett of Colorado, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. That’s right, Elizabeth Warren, the person who has been lauded for having a plan for everything, has not co-sponsored the fledgling legislation against domestic terrorism, an issue that has been pushed to the forefront in just one week’s time.  Warren did recently denounce white supremacy as domestic terrorism, but her efforts to get a law passed about it have been unclear aside from what appears to be her absence from being involved in the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019. Meanwhile, the co-sponsorship by Booker, Harris and Klobuchar immediately gives them a ton of political capital on the topic that is bound to dominate future presidential debates and interviews as the country grapples with the fallout from a problem it doesn’t seem properly equipped to answer. However, since Klobuchar has become a fringe candidate whose campaign may not even last until the next debate, Booker and Harris — the latter of whom has flirted with being a frontrunner among Democrats — could emerge as difference-makers on helping to get the domestic terrorism law on the books. There was also the House’s Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2019 for which at least one prominent Congresswoman running for president has not signed on. The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act is specifically designed to address and specifically NAMES White Nationalism as a terror threat. It only has 10 co-sponsors in the House. Why isn't 2020 candidate @TulsiGabbard on this bill ? https://t.co/YXHVxBegYV — Jason Johnson (@DrJasonJohnson) August 4, 2019 The idea of investigating the El Paso shooting as domestic terrorism was also interesting because even though mass shootings disproportionately waged by white American males have been on the rise for almost a quarter of a century, Esquire reminded readers in June that “the Department of Justice cannot label such acts as terrorism because there is no law under which they can do it.” According to the American Civil Liberties Union, Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act expands “the type of conduct that the government can investigate when it is investigating ‘terrorism’” but “does not create a new crime of domestic terrorism.” All of which emphasizes why Durbin’s bill was especially important in the wake of this weekend’s carnage that on face value certainly seemed deserving of being labeled domestic terrorism. The El Paso shooter, who police managed to arrest, reportedly left behind a racist manifesto that indicated he traveled more than 10 hours by car to the border town in order to kill “Hispanics.” Not only does that type of premeditation mandate a hate crime charge, but domestic terror also fits perfectly into that narrative. Aside from the requisite “thoughts and prayers” offered by politicians following mass shootings, it will be interesting to see how sitting U.S. Senators try to explain why they did not co-sponsor Durbin’s bill that has now taken on an added sense of urgency. Jessa Duggar vs. Katy Perry Feud: Actually a Thing?!

Earlier this week, a judge ruled that a Christian rapper’s copyright infringement case against Katy Perry could proceed to the trial stage. The rapper — who goes by the stage name Flame — claims that Perry’s 2013 hit “Dark Horse” is a ripoff of his song “Joyful Noise.” It’s a bit ironic, considering that title must have been used by about 40 bajiliion Christian recording artists before Flame came along, but that’s a conversation for another time. Now, you may be wondering what in the hell (pardon us, evangelical readers) all of this has to do with Jessa Duggar. Well, if you’re a fan of her family’s and you follow her husband on social media, then you might already be familiar with Flame, aka Marcus Grey. Grey is a longtime Duggar associate who was once interviewed by Jessa’s husband, Ben Seewald, on the topic of race relations in America. Ben Seewald on Racial Unrest (There was a time when Ben tried to fashion a career for himself as a media figure who asks the tough questions. The less said about that phase, the better.) “Flame has been doing Christian hip hop for many years now,” Ben told the camera. “I started listening to some of Flame’s music a little over a year ago. I really appreciated the content of his music. We actually became friends.” Ben goes on to explain that his wife later became friends with Flame, and the couple even introduced the rapper to their then-infant son, Spurgeon. “During this visit we want to kind of introduce Flame to life in the country as opposed to life in the city,” Ben said when Grey’s visit to their was captured by TLC cameras. For years now, the Duggars have been outspoken critics of secular pop culture, and they’re especially chagrinned by what they see as overly-sexualized music directed at younger audiences. In other words, they’re probably not very big Katy Perry fans. This, combined with the unusually heated nature of Flame’s court battle against Perry (The singer even offered to perform her song live in front of the judge to make her case.) has led to rumors that Katy and Jessa don’t like each other. However, while it seems very likely that Jessa dislikes Katy, it seems equally likely that Katy has no idea who Jessa is. Besides, both women have so much on their plates these days that new enemies are probably the last thing on their minds. Katy has enough feuds to keep her busy for the next few decades. Meanwhile, Jessa just welcomed her third child . So as entertaining as it would be if these two started taking shots at one another on Twitter, sadly, it’ll probably never happen. Meghan Markle: Refusing to "Bow Down" to Queen & Kate Middleton?

Just when you thought the talk of a feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton had finally died out, along comes yet another report of Meg rocking the boat. Yes, get ready to be annoyed by fussiness over an outdated institution, ladies and gentlemen, because we have new accusations that Meghan is violating royal protocol ! In the past, we’ve heard allegations of Meghan failing to curtsy properly and just generally eliciting widespread pearl-clutching across the UK. Now, it seems like the stuffiest royal traditionalists might want to hold on to their heart meds and prepare to pop their monocles, as Meg has reportedly arrived at the very obvious conclusion that the entire concept of a royal family is, in fact, quite dumb. Or at the very least, she’s fed up with abiding by rules that infringe on her individuality. According to a new report from Radar Online, the Duchess of Sussex is sick of being the low woman on the totem pole and she’s now “fighting for equality” within the Windsor clan and refusing to “bow down” to her superiors. We’re guessing that means Kate and the Queen because that’s usually how these stories play out.   “Meghan and Harry feel that the rules and regulations in connection with royal protocol are antiquated to forward-thinking millennials,” says one insider. “Meghan and Harry respect tradition but want the freedom to do their own work and promote their causes without being held back by any constraints.” First, they came for breakfast cereals, mortgages, and bar soap, and now millennials are killing the royal family!  Though it sounds like Meghan is locking horns with her in-laws, the insider insists her objections have more to do with the work she plans to do going forward: “This is the real point of contention and it has nothing to do with Meghan versus Kate or Harry versus William,” the source claims. “Meghan has big ambition and lofty goals and feels it is unfair that her unrelenting work ethic is being stifled because the others can’t keep up with her.” Meghan is on maternity leave at the moment, having welcomed her first child just last month. But the informant says she’s already planning to accomplish some big things once she returns to duchess duty later this year. “It’s not a competition to Meghan, it’s about working hard and delivering results and that is what she is laser focused on,” says the insider. “Expect her to make a huge comeback after her maternity leave ends. You will see her everywhere and she is already booked out through 2021.” We suppose we’ll just have to wait and see what Meghan has in store. It’s probably some sort of laudable philanthropic endeavor, but we’re deeply petty people, so we’re sort of hoping she announces a Most Popular Duchess contest and starts barnstorming all over the British empire. Lady Gaga FINALLY Addresses Christian Carino Split

The rumors have been spreading for weeks. The chatter has been growing incessant. The blogs have been very busy. Amid this backdrop of talk about her split from fiance Christian Carino, Lady Gaga has finally broken her silence. The engagement ended and the break-up was confirmed way back in February. Neither half of the now-former couple has said much of anything in public since, however, which has only fueled the speculative fire around the Internet. “There’s no dramatic story,” an insider tried to tell People Magazine at the time — but no one wanted to buy this spin. Most gossip observers assumed the engagement simply had to end because Gaga and Bradley Cooper are clearly in love ; how else to explain their chemistry in A Star is Born? Then there were the stories that alleged Gaga grew sick of how often Carino sent her text messages . “He was jealous,” an insider previously told Us Weekly. “He was trying to find her all the time and texted her a lot. Her friends didn’t like him either.” This same source said in late winter that Gaga was the one who broke things off, emphasizing that Carino didn’t take it well. At. All. So… was there truth to this rumor? To the cheating allegations? To all those Cooper-Gaga romance articles? While performing her “Jazz & Piano” show as part of her residency in Las Vegas on Sunday evening, Gaga briefly addressed her split from ex-Carino when a song reminded her of when she was engaged. “Last time I sang this song, I had a ring on my finger, so it’ll be different this time,” the artist told those in attendance prior to delving into “Someone  to Watch Over Me.” She then laughed and confirmed that she was, indeed, in love with Bradley Cooper and that she hoped to have, like, 9 of his babies. Just kidding. She only said the part we quoted above, which we guess isn’t really all that newsworthy in the end, huh? In reality, another source now claims, Gaga has been so busy of late with her career that she hasn’t really given much thought to the end of her engagement. She hasn’t really processed it just yet. “Gaga has been in such a focus on her career right now and has not even had time to address what has been happening between her and Christian, emotionally,” this Us Weekly insider explains, adding: “She has been telling those around her, ‘Let’s stay focused.’” This tabloid also writes that Gaga was initially “devastated” when the romance concluded, but that Carino had “infringed on her creative process” and she just couldn’t allow that to happen. More recently, someone in the know explained that Gaga had cut off communication from Carino. “She’s been hounded by Christian,” the mole says. “She told him not to contact her.”
