After Disney and Fox agreed to a deal that would return X-Men and Fantastic Four properties back to Marvel Studios, rumors began floating around that Fox’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants movies might be shelved as Marvel would likely want to reboot the X-Men franchise with their own cast. Truth be told after the fracas that was X-Men: Apocalypse that would’ve been a welcomed direction and word is that aside from Ryan Renolds’ Deadpool, everyone was getting replaced. And yes, that includes Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you view the situation) both the Dark Phoenix and New Mutant films are slated to drop in 2019 per the IMAX quarterly earnings report which lets investors know which films are going to be releasing. Originally set to drop on November 2, 2018, X-Men: Dark Phoenix now has a release date of February 14, 2019 while The New Mutants has been moved from February 22, 2019 to August 2, 2019. While the possibility still remains that Marvel will decide to shelve the projects in order to start with a clean slate going into Phase 4 of their post- Infinty War Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems like we may in fact get to see if writer/director Simon Kinberg will be able to correct the trainwreck that was his original Dark Phoenix storyline in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand . For the record, we’re not too optimistic. Are you interested in seeing X-Men: Dark Phoenix after witnessing what Apocalypse was or are you hoping Marvel completely reboots the franchise? Just because an actor works on a film doesn't mean they're proud of it. Sometimes, they just gotta pay the bills and take a role that well, isn't the best. Find out which 22 stars hated their own movies and weren't afraid to admit it! Some of them may even surprise you. 1. Ben Affleck Ben Affleck has one very specific regret when it comes to his past films. “The only movie I actually regret is Daredevil. It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got f***ed up the way it did stays with me,” he said. 2. Katherine Heigl Katherine Heigl wasn’t exactly a big fan of her 2007 film, Knocked Up. She called it “a little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days.” 3. Jim Carrey Jim Carrey regretted the 2010 film Kick-Ass because of the violence. Before the release of the film, he tweeted “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.” 4. George Clooney George Clooney wasn’t happy with Batman & Robin at all. He was quoted saying, “With hindsight, it’s easy to look back at this and go, ‘Woah, that was really ****, and I was really bad in it!'” 5. Robert Pattinson Despite its popularity, there are certainly plenty of people who opening hate on the Twilight Series. One of those people? Robert Pattinson. Kiera Wilmot Was Arrested When Her Volcano Was Mistaken For A Bomb Before the infamous photo of high school student Ahmed Mohamed in handcuffs was viewed across the country, another teenager, Kiera Wilmot, was arrested for almost the same thing just 2 years ago! Via WTSP : Last week, officers arrested the 14-year-old at his Texas school after showing up with a homemade clock, mistaken as a fake bomb. “Before, I was really scared that no one was going to care about me because I’m Muslim and now everyone wants to interview me because of what happened,” Mohamed said. What followed was outrage and support, even an invitation to the White House. The charges were dropped once it was figured out the suspicious device is a clock. While it’s a unique case, look no further than our area and you’ll find it’s happened before. “I was thinking how could this happen again?” said Kiera Wilmot. Wilmot, now 19, was a 16-year-old student at Bartow High school in Polk County. Back in 2013, she was arrested after showing off her volcano science project, mistaken as a bomb. “No rights read to me, [I was] taken in a police car from school to a juvenile assessment center,” she said. But, just like Mohamed the community came out to her defense. “I think what they did was amazing. How he had all the support behind him and what took my charges to be dropped within a month, took him only a week.” The school district in Texas, however, stands by their decision. “It’s a little bit disappointing that there are so many comments on social media from people who I don’t think have the complete story and we have an obligation to protect all 2800 students here at MacArthur,” said Lesley Weaver, spokesperson for the Irving School District. Kiera is now a mechanical engineering major at Florida Polytechnic University and hopes to meet Mohamed one day!
F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta Compton has been doing major numbers, which comes as no surprise… After leading both the U.S. and Canadian box office, raking in an estimated $157.5 million, Gray has officially become the highest-grossing black director of a single film in domestic sales, according to Forbes. Gray beat out both Tim Story’s Fantastic Four, which earned $154.6 million back in 2005 and Keenen Ivory Wayans’s Scary Movie… However, Straight Outta Compton’s international box office success doesn’t quite measure up to either of the aforementioned film’s international box office million’s. With $24.9 million in foreign ticket sales, Scary Movie’s $121 and Fantastic Four’s $175.8. Even still, Straight Outta Compton’s dominated the domestic lane, and brought a much needed hip-hop film to the forefront. [Sept. 19th], they announced that they will be honoring the rising starlet with her very own, one-of-a-kind doll for encouraging girls to “raise their voices.” The doll honors Coleman’s 2015 Oscars getup – dreadlocks and all – in which she took a stand and inspired individuals to be themselves.
