Our History Makers: Hank Aaron

View post:

Baseball purists and the media may still obsess over how Barry Bonds broke Hammering Hank’s home run record, but Hank Aaron doesn’t care. All Aaron knows is that he held the record for 33 years. For more than three decades, Aaron’s 755 career home runs was the proverbial carrot for every slugger’s stick. And by 2007, Aaron was ready to let it go. “It’s probably the most hallowed record out there, as far as I’m concerned, but it’s now in the hands of somebody else,” said Aaron, who retired in 1976. “My hope today…is the achievement of this record will inspire others to chase their own dreams.” Aaron congratulates Barry Bonds: Aaron – born Henry Louis Aaron in Mobile, AL – knows plenty about dreams. He quit high school in 1951 to play for the Indianapolis Clowns in the Negro League. He started in the major league’s in 1954. He broke Babe Ruth’s record in 1974. “I thought, we’ve come along way baby,” Aaron said in an interview regarding breaking’s Ruth’s record, “From Mobile, Ala., to breaking the most prestigious record in baseball. I feel very proud of myself like I had shown everybody that I could play major league baseball.” Breaking Ruth’s record not only showed the world that Aaron could play major league baseball, but it was another signpost of what would become African-Americans’ domination of professional sports. Aaron on breaking Ruth’s record: A few notable achievements: • Aaron made the All-Star team every year from 1955 until 1975. • Won three Gold Glove Awards. • Won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1957 Read Aaron’s bio here . Guess How Much Tickets Are To Diddy’s Grammy Party

Original post:

A ticket to Diddy ‘s Grammy party costs more than what a lot of us make in a year …  but wait until you hear what actually goes down at the Diddy party and what those who can afford a ticket will get to partake in. The party is hosted at the Playboy Mansion, but Diddy is enforcing a strict black tie dress code. Diddy’s $50,000 entry fee grants the works and then some. The pricy ticket earns attendees two cabanas, VIP admission for 20 guests as well as an unlimited buffet dinner, open bar and free bottle service. There’s also a cocktail reception, a red carpet, a DJ and live performances. But just wait … $50K will also get you 15 “dedicated female promotional models.” People with less cash flow can opt for the more affordable yet still hefty sum of $1,500. There’s also a $15,000 and $25,000 option. Proceeds from the party go to the Angelwish Foundation, a charity supporting children affected by HIV and AIDS.

A-List Hollyweird Stars Make It Rain At Michelle Obama’s Fundraising Dinner In Los Angeles!!

Damn right, some of these silver screen stars are makin 10, 15, 20 million per movie. Come off them stacks!! Watch out, there’s a new star in town. Hollywood’s A-list turned out Monday night for a fundraiser with First Lady Michelle Obama, and RadarOnline.com has all the details from the party that raised $1 million and was the hot ticket of the night. Ryan Phillippe, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia De Rossi, Drew Barrymore and Vanessa Williams were on hand for the exclusive soiree where tickets ranged in price from $1,500 to $35,800. The party was held in the luxurious modern Westwood, Calif. mansion of Michael S. Smith and James Costos. Smith is a designer who decorated the White House when the Obamas moved in in 2009. He called Michelle a “hero” as he introduced her to the cheering fans. Michelle, dressed in a form-fitting black dress and black sweater, told the crowd of more than 350 guests that her husband was even involved in the decorating of their new home. Good to know that people are still in support of our President despite the antics of those trying to discredit him and tear him down. *side-eyes Lupe Fiasco * via RadarOnline

Democrats Imply a Publisher Promoting Republican Books Could Be Illegal

Over at stopnetregulation.org , Seton Motley reports that if the Democrats can’t ban books, they’ll try to ban book promotion. Democrats are furious that the conservative Threshhold imprint of Simon & Schuster (a corporate cousin of CBS) published a book by three House Republicans titled “Young Guns,” and included a promotional video:    That was too much free speech for the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), which lawyered up and sent the publishing house an ominous letter intimating it may be in violation of several campaign finance laws – claiming the video was an in-kind contribution to Republicans. This despite the fact that… Corporations are permitted to make independent expenditures with no coordination with candidates… Or the simple possibility that Simon & Schuster has printed tens of thousands of copies and would now like to, you know, sell them. The DCCC’s attorneys suggest it’s improper for a corporation to host a video on its website that in turn directs viewers to Rep. Eric Cantor’s ERIC-PAC website that solicits contributions for Republican candidates for Congress. But consider this: if Simon & Schuster really wanted this book to fly off the shelves, or Republicans to be helped, wouldn’t they offer a much more prominent video presentation — on a CBS property like 60 Minutes? It wouldn’t be the first time. (They put Simon & Schuster-published  The Big Short by liberal author Michael Lewis in that promotional slot.) Seton continued: Never ones to let the facts get in the way of a good beating…. The DCCC is looking for an “assurance” that the book will be promoted legally. This is chilling language and a chilling move coming from the Party that is (for now still) in control of Congress – what with their ability to hold “investigative” hearings and haul anyone they wish before them for intimidation purposes disguised as interrogative ones.  Not to mention a Democrat President with the keys to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and what is quickly becoming the most ideological and partisan Justice Department in our nation’s history.  It doesn’t occur to Democrats and liberals that they too can write a book and get it published and promoted – in just the same manner as have the Republicans?  You know, meet free speech with free speech. Apparently not.  Instead they seek to drop the censorship hammer.  Again.
