As adorable as it is to watch a baby elephant play soccer or splash in a pool , it’s equally depressing to see one cry. An infant elephant was inconsolable this week after his own mother actually tried to stomp him to death in a Chinese zoo. According to Metro U.K., the mother gave birth to her son in August and tried to step on him soon afterward. Hoping it was an accident, veterinarians treated the calf and returned him to his parent… only for the same violent incident to take place again. Baby Elephant Cries Said a zoo employee: “The calf was very upset and he was crying for five hours before he could be consoled. He couldn’t bear to be parted from his mother and it was his mother who was trying to kill him.” Pictures of the crying elephant (named Zhuang Zhuang) have gone viral, but there does appear to be a happy ending to this story: The animal has been adopted. His tears have reportedly dried up and we can all hope he’ll be kicking and splashing around in no time.
The Voice results included a few surprises, but by and large, the 12 stars who survived after the week’s 20 performances are the cream of the crop. From Movieline’s 2010 Holiday Gift Guide In celebration of its 75th anniversary, Carvel Ice Cream handed out 75 black cards to different celebrities (you know, the people who really need these sorts of things) that are good for a lifetime supply of ice cream from the chain. Well, technically it’s good for $25 per week in ice cream products, so if you need more than that, keep looking. In any case, Patton Oswalt is auctioning his card off for charity. It may seem a bit pricey, but it must pay for itself eventually right? Let’s do some math.

The business of song selection during “A Very Glee Christmas” may have left a lot to be desired , but the yuletime themed episode provided enough Glee -tasfaction for the holiday season. (Well maybe not for the Hanukkah season, but Christmas was very well represented.) There was plentiful Sue Sylvester, another endearing Brittany storyline, a heartwarming duet between Kurt and his dreamy new love interest, a Grinch homage that put Ron Howard’s 2000 film to shame, and a happy ending, even for the cardboard cutout that has become Will Schuester. Now, for an extended recap and as always, a pop quiz. Pencils ready?
