Keith Lamont Scott Killed By Police While Reading A Book, Waiting At Bus Stop A disabled man was shot and killed by police today in North Carolina and their story isn’t adding up. According to police reports, they say the man was armed and posed a threat to the officers. His family however, says Keith Lamont Scott was disabled, and usually sits and reads a book while he waits for his child to get off the school bus from school. Here are more details from WCNC News . Police say they were serving an outstanding warrant when they came upon Keith Lamont Scott in his car. They say Scott got out, had a gun on him, and put the officers in imminent danger. Officer Brentley Vinson shot Scott. “Man was in his truck, reading a book waiting for his kid to come home,” said a man on scene. “Cops shot him, for nothing.” Emergency services were called to the scene where they transported Scott to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. “As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, Officer Vinson has been placed on paid Administrative Leave,” the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a statement Tuesday night. Officer Vinson has been employed with the CMPD since July 2014. He is African American. Scott’s daughter Lyric Scott came to the scene in front of news cameras to defend her dad’s character. A man who said he’s the brother of Scott said to NBC Charlotte this evening: “Just know that all white people are (expletive) devils. All white cops are (expletive devils, and all white people.” “He was waiting on his son to get from school and police came out with no.. he didn’t have on no uniform to determine if he was a police or not — he was an undercover and he just jumped out and yelled ‘gun’ and shot at him,” he told NBC Charlotte’s Tanya Mendis. “I think they shot him four times, I’m not sure, but he’s dead.” Hostility among the community grew quickly as word of what happened spread. A woman saying she was the man’s daughter posted a video on Facebook Live from the scene. “Shot my Daddy for being black! Video Shows Moment When Convicted White Man Punches An Elderly Black Man In Texas Conrad Barret, the offender in the above clip was sentenced to 6 years in prison last month for attacking Roy Coleman, 79. Feds were ordered to release video of the incident just this week. According to the NY Daily News , Barret filmed other clips that day that show him saying the n-word and commenting that black people “haven’t fully experienced the blessing of evolution.” SMH, this incident took place Thanksgiving weekend 2013. Black Man Arrested For Burning Down Black Churches Last week, we reported that someone was running around and setting fire to a number of Black churches all around Ferguson , Missouri, the site of Michael Brown’s murder at the hands of the police. Given the city’s racial tension following last year’s unrest, authorities weren’t ruling out the possibility that a racist was behind the church burnings. But as it turns out, the arsonist may have been a Black man. Via The Atlantic: St. Louis-area police have arrested David Lopez Jackson, a 35-year-old black man, in connection with the burning of churches around the area. Jennings has been charged with two counts of second-degree arson. There have been seven fires in St. Louis and nearby Jennings over the course of October. The arsons struck a range of denominations, but mostly black churches. A sixth church was racially mixed, while the seventh was predominantly white. The fires ran the gamut from minimal to serious damage. Because of the long history of arson attacks on black churches—including several this summer and a long spree in the mid-1990s—and because of the tense race relations in St. Louis since the death of Michael Brown in August 2014, the fires immediately raised the specter of hate crimes. Indeed, the suspect arrested Thursday is black, and authorities didn’t offer any indication about a motive during a news conference Friday afternoon. Police have only charged Jackson with fires at the New Life Missionary Baptist Church and Ebenezer Lutheran, but they said he’s a suspect in the others. His car was spotted near the New Life, and forensic evidence tied him to Ebenezer; there were also gas containers in his car, police said. All seven fires were similar in type and location, generally around doors. Plot twist like a mofo! Black Man Found Hanging From Tree In Georgia A Black man recently associated with the death of a local white woman was found hanging from a tree in a rural Georgia town on Monday. Investigators are currently working to determine if the act was a lynching or a suicide. Via New York Daily News : A black man recently questioned in the death of a white woman was found hanging from a tree in rural Georgia Monday morning, launching an investigation by local and state authorities, according to local reports. The body, identified as 43-year-old Roosevelt Champion III, was discovered in a backyard by a resident in Greensboro, between Atlanta and Augusta, around 11 a.m., police told NBC News. Authorities have thus far said that there is nothing to immediately suggest foul play. Greensboro Police Chief Ossie Mapp, describing Champion’s location, said he did not live at the address. His body was described as suspended by a plastic strap, one similar to those used to secure cargo on vehicles’ roofs. There were no visible signs of wounds to his body and his feet were described as just scraping the ground. The death investigation has since been handed over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). No foul play…but who would hang themselves in someone else’s yard ? NYDN

Ireland Racist Incidents Up 85% In 2013 85% sure is a large increase ! According to Irish Times: An 85 per cent increase in racist incidents this year has been reported by the Immigrant Council of Ireland. The council said 142 incidents had been reported since January, compared to 77 during the same period last year. Reports peaked over the summer months, with 31 incidents in July alone. Most cases occurred in a person’s local community or workplace, while harassment, both verbal and written, accounted for most instances of racism. ICI chief executive Denise Charlton said the figures were “alarming and once again show racism is a reality which people and families are facing in their communities”. She added: “While the findings are preliminary and we will produce more details in the new year, they are nevertheless stark. People have been made victims in their own homes, at work, on the street and increasingly online.” Racism is just getting worse, even abroad. SMH.

Ridiculous White College Students Charged For Bullying Black Classmate A group of racist college students from San Jose State University in California will face misdemeanor battery charges after police discovered that they bullied a younger black student for three months in an apparent hate crime. via ABC News A black college freshman in California who was allegedly subjected to racially-charged torment by his three white suitemates is described as a “mild-mannered, sweet kid” who was physically afraid of his roommates and what they would do if he reported the abuse. From August until October, prosecutors allege three freshmen at California’s San Jose State University taunted their black suitemate with racial epithets, Nazi imagery and on one occasion, clamped a U-shaped bicycle lock around his neck. The three suspects, Logan Beaschler and Colin Warren, both 18, and Joseph Bomgardner, 19, have been suspended pending an investigation and are being charged with a misdemeanor hate crime and battery, police said. They have not yet entered a plea. A fourth unnamed student was also suspended from the school in connection with the incidents, the school said late Friday. After Thomas made a brief afternoon appearance in an Oakland courtroom, where he did not enter a plea, his mother apologized and expressed sympathy for Fleischman. She said her son regretted his actions and wanted to write an apology letter to Fleischman. “My son is not a hateful person,” said Thomas’ mother, who would identify herself only as Ms. Jackson. “He’s not homophobic. He’s a kid. Kids joke around. I think he will learn his lesson. He’s very remorseful. I’m sorry for it.” Fleischman, an Oakland resident who attends Maybeck High School in Berkeley, goes by the name Sasha. The teenager was born male but has declined in the past to identify as male or female, instead preferring the term “genderqu*er.” How in the world is setting another person on fire “joking around??” They need to lock this boys’ mother up right along with him if that’s really how she feels.
