Brock Turner, Convicted Rapist, Registers as Sex Offender

Yes, by now, you likely know who Brock Turner is. You probably didn’t need us to write in the above headline that he’s a “convicted rapist.” Except far too many media outlets seemed to bury this lede when reporting on Brock Turner getting out of jail last week. They wrote that “Former Stanford Swimmer Brock Turner…” was now out of prison or some similar nonsense. So we just want to make it clear here: Yes, Brock Turner once swam for Stanford University. But that fact only matters to the shady judge who gave him a lenient sentence. Brock Turner is only generating headlines these days because he is a rapist. He was convicted on three felony counts of sexual assault against an unconscious woman. Brock Turner Released from Prison, Surrounded by Media Okay, thank you for indulging us. We had to get that out of our system. Turner was somehow sentenced to only six months in prison for his heinous act, which took place in January of last year and which involved him inserting his figures in a woman lying on the street outside a party. He was caught by a couple of fellow students and ran away as quickly as he could at the time. Fortunately, one of those students caught up to Turner and tackled him to the ground. He was eventually arrested and convicted of rape, only for his father to argue in court that his son did not deserve any jail time for a mere “20 minutes of action.” The judge incredibly agreed with this assessment, going against the prosecutors’ recommendation and sentencing Turner to six months behind bars, which was reduced to three months due to good behavior. Turner is now a free man. But he will at least have an official stigma attached to his name forever. As you can see below, Turner registered on Tuesday morning in Greene County, Ohio as a sex offender. This registration, along with drug and alcohol counseling, was part of Turner’s legal “punishment.” We have to put that word in quotation marks because it’s abhorrent just how easy to judge went on Turner. In response to the light sentencing, Turner’s unnamed victim read a moving letter to her rapist in court. It was then read on CNN by anchor Ashleigh Banfield, who fought off tears as she made public the words of this brave young woman. Ashleigh Banfield Reads Full Statement by Stanford Rape Victim on Air It’s well worth your time to watch the video above. Yes, it will make you even angrier over the Brock Turner sentencing . But it will hopefully comfort you in the knowledge that his victim seems like the sort of woman who will recover from his act and maybe even use her horrible history to help others. Brock Turner is a rapist. Brock Turner is a rapist. Brock Turner is a rapist. Sorry. Just had to make sure we said that a few more times.

No One’s An Angel At Hester High, But Who Was The Biggest ‘Faking It’ Offender?

A lot of good has been done this season on “Faking It“: Karma and Liam stood tall in protest against a Fortune 500 Company, Shane helped Amy get in touch with some massively repressed feelings and, of course, Lauren introduced Austin, Texas, to the wonder of the croquembouche. But the bad might have outweighed each… Read more

Stop The Violence: 15-Year-Old Boy Shot To Death By Chicago Police After He Allegedly Fired Shots At Random Pedestrians

Another shooting tragedy straight out of the Chi…. Teenage Chicago Gunman Shot And Killed By Police A Chicago teenager who police say was recklessly firing shots at pedestrians while riding on his bike has lost his life after being fatally shot by Chicago police officers. via Chicago Tribune A teenaged gunman on a bicycle who officials said was firing shots at pedestrians and police officers was fatally shot by police this afternoon on the West Side, according to authorities. The gunman, who is 15 or 16, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Pat Camden, a police union spokesman. It happened in the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard in the Lawndale neighborhood, according to police. At about 4:10 p.m., Ogden District tactical officers were northbound on Independence Boulevard approaching Roosevelt Road when they heard gunshots coming from the west side of Independence, according to a statement released by Chicago Police Department News Affairs. When the officers made a U-turn and crossed the median, they spotted the offender firing shots at pedestrians and fleeing southbound on a bicycle while brandishing a handgun, the statement said. “He was riding a bicycle firing at people on the street,” Camden said. The officers were pursuing the offender when he turned towards the officers and fired shots at them, prompting the officers to fire their weapons and hit the gunman, the statement said. “They’re right behind him in an unmarked car beeping their sirens and flashing their lights when he turns around, twice, and fired at the squad car,” Camden said. “The third time he turned around, the passenger in the squad car fired at him and hit him,” Camden said. “He was DOA at Mount Sinai.” Judging from what we know so far, it sounds like police had no other choice but to do what they did before this young man harmed anyone else. Casey Anthony Reports to Probation; Whereabouts, Details Top Secret

Casey Anthony has reported to probation in Florida, but don’t expect a public address or list of her weekly requirements. Everything is TOP secret. Anthony showed up at the Florida Department of Corrections last night to begin serving her one-year probation sentence for a check fraud case. Casey, who was released from jail July 17 after being acquitted of murder in the death of 2-year-old daughter Caylee, had until Friday at noon to report. She must remain in Florida for the next year to serve probation. Florida corrections officials said in a press release that given the strong potential for death threats against Casey Anthony , her file will be kept confidential. The FDOC said, “The court has directed us to keep confidential the offender’s residence or any information that could lead to the discovery of her location.” This is due solely to “the death threats against her.” The statement continues, “Therefore, she will not be identified in our database, nor will her probation officer’s name or probation location be made public.”
