It’s still to be determined who will play Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie, but it’s reportedly become clear who will not be cast: Ian Somerhalder and Garrett Hedlund are both out of the running, according to insiders, along with Stephen Amell , narrowing the list of candidates. Hedlund, 28, was reportedly approached about playing the S&M-obsessed lead in the film version of E.L. James’ erotic novel, but turned it down . “Doing a possible trilogy was too big a commitment, and producers wouldn’t let him do just one film,” says the source of Kirsten Dunst’s boyfriend. Ian Somerhalder, 34, is out too – though he openly coveted the part. The “phenomenal opportunity” he lobbied for won’t be his for the taking. A source says “E.L. said at a Comic-Con party [that] the part won’t go to Ian.” Both The Vampire Diaries star and Garrett Hedlund have been popular picks in the online fantasy casting game that’s gone on for a year, but alas. The only major casting decision for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, so far, has been the director. James confirmed that Sam Taylor-Johnson will helm the film. As for the two leads, they’re still TBA, and until we have official confirmation, everything is conjecture. Fallout from Hurricane Sandy may have kept some crowds away from theaters over the weekend, but that did not stop Disney animated feature Wreck-It Ralph from packing a wallop at the box office. Box office in the top 12 headed northward to $124.6 million, 20 per cent higher than the previous week. 1. Wreck-It Ralph Gross: $49,038,712 Screens: 3,752 (PSA: $13,070) Week: 1 The Disney animation had a terrific bow, cashing in on great reviews and a solid marketing campaign. The feature also made $12 million internationally, making the title Disney’s top animated pic The $49 million plus domestic total compares to $40.1 million for Chicken Little in 2005. The opening compares to Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted , which brought in over $60 million when it opened in June. But Ralph helped bring up an overall box office which eclipsed the previous weekend. 2. Flight Gross: $24,900,566 Screens: 1,884 (PSA: $13,217) Week: 1 Flight cruised with strong results in its opening weekend, even edging out the weekend’s number one box office winner, Wreck-It Ralph in terms of per screen average. The results were stronger than expected and shows Denzel Washington, who is tipped to be a force this Awards Season due to his performance, is an audience draw. This is Washington’s fifth best debut. 3. Argo Gross: $10,209,103 (Cume: $75,860,240) Screens: 2,774 (PSA: $3,680) Week: 4 (Change: – 16%) The Ben Affleck-directed feature in which he also stars is continuing to show very solid momentum now one month into its theatrical life. Word-of-mouth is propelling the feature’s box office prowess and it will likely hit the $100 million mark in the next few weeks. 4. The Man With the Iron Fists Gross: $7,910,980 Screens: 1,868 (PSA: $4,235) Week: 1 The gross is in line with what was expected, but it’s still a bit of a downer. It should reach a lucrative overseas market. 5. Taken 2 Gross: $5,919,493 (Cume: $125,586,929) Screens: 2,639 (PSA: $2,243) Week: 5 (Change: – 23%) The film dropped 356 theaters in its fifth weekend, though it actually managed to climb the chart one notch compared to the previous weekend. Its 23% drop is also a sign of momentum and it should top out at $145 million.

When MTV News caught up with “Country Strong” and “On the Road” star Garrett Hedlund, he only had the nicest things to say about Stewart’s culinary abilities. “You got to try the tortilla soup!” he raved. “It’s incredible. She’s honed it.” Back in October, Stewart opened up about cooking for Hedlund and the rest of the “On the Road” cast, noting that her best dish was the tortilla soup. “I didn’t bake; I cooked a lot, though. I was the only girl on set,” she said. “I think I can do a really, really good, terrific tortilla soup. That was my ‘On the Road’ dish.” Stewart has also thrown big bashes for her pals, proving that her cooking goes far beyond just soup. “I get really embarrassed when people ask me what I cook, for some reason,” she recalled of a dinner party she threw last year. “I shouldn’t say that I cook anymore. There was like a big BBQ situation and, like, a bunch of steaks and veggies, and I made chicken piccata. I’m so embarrassed right now. But I made homemade marinara sauce starting at, like, 2 in the afternoon. It wasn’t done until 8. It was incredible. The ‘Twilight’ cast showed up.” In the past, Taylor Lautner revealed some of Stewart’s other delicious dishes . “Like, OK, you know kumquats?” he asked. “There’s apparently a fruit called loquats. Yeah, I didn’t know either. And she made a loquat pie.” With all this talk about Stewart’s cooking abilities, does Hedlund have any skills in the kitchen? “I’m pretty much a klutz in the kitchen. ‘It’s such a high-tech adventure,’ actor tells MTV News on the film’s blue carpet. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Ryan Downey Garrett Hedlund Photo: MTV News “Tron” was an eye-popping technological extravaganza when it first hurtled into theaters in 1982 with its speeding light cycles and gaming imagery. The film eventually proved to be so influential — spawning video games and a whole “Tron”-obsessed subculture in its wake — that Disney circled back to the project for the 2010 sequel “Tron Legacy.” For Garrett Hedlund, who plays Sam Flynn, the son of software engineer Kevin (portrayed in both movies by Jeff Bridges), the latest take on the project is still an impressive spectacle that ramps up the potently mind-scrambling imagery. Hedlund revealed his thoughts to MTV News about the seeing the final product for the first time on the blue carpet at the elaborate “Tron Legacy” premiere Saturday. “I saw it couple weeks ago when I was in Montreal, but only with a couple pals and on a smaller Technicolor screen. But even then it was an incredible experience. It’s such a high-tech adventure,” Hedlund said. “It’s undoubtedly like anything I’ve ever seen before, and I think the loss for words on it is the best part of it and I can’t wait to see it again.” Even though Hedlund has a role in bringing the digital wizardry of the franchise to a new generation — in addition to getting a high-profile, career-boosting gig from the project — he said he was most excited to see “Tron” filmmaker Steven Lisberger revel in the enduring influence of his groundbreaking movie nearly three decades later. “That’s where I’m so happy for Steven Lisberger. Something he created around 28 years ago and this wild maniacal story has come to fruition 28 years later in such an unbelievable way,” he said. “To see him walking with his family and enjoying this with all of us and being there when we’re filming with all of us and sort of being the godfather on set, I’m more proud of him in this very moment.” What are you looking forward to seeing in “Tron”? But for her latest hair change, Stewart is going in the opposite direction from her “Runaways” style, looking instead for something brighter as she heads out “On the Road.” “It’s kind of blond right now. Like, reddish brown. I’m doing it for ‘On the Road,’ ” she told MTV News on the red carpet for a special screening of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” in New York on Monday night (June 28). Stewart is taking a break from the supernatural world of “Twilight” for “On the Road,” based on the acclaimed 1957 novel from writer Jack Kerouac. The story follows Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), a youth who sets off on a cross-country road trip and meets a variety of notable characters, including the charismatic but deeply flawed Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund). Stewart will play Marylou, the on-again, off-again wife to Hedlund’s character. “Twilight” fans aren’t likely to get as passionate about Stewart’s fictional relationship with Hedlund as they are in taking sides between Team Edward and Team Jacob, but Stewart herself said she’s quite impressed with Hedlund as an actor. “I’ve met him a bunch of times, and I’ve hung out with him twice,” she said of her co-star. “He’s a great guy. … He’s written crazy stuff for it. He’s super into it. Not to sound … I don’t know how to put it. He’s, like, so in character, and he’s driving to Montreal. He’s awesome. I’m really, really excited.” Stewart, Hedlund and Riley join actress Kirsten Dunst in the cast for “On the Road.” The film will be directed by Walter Salles and executive-produced by Francis Ford Coppola.
