Houston Shooting: 9 Injured, Suspect in Custody

Houston police say that officers have shot a suspect who opened fire in the city on Monday morning, taking him into custody before he could take any lives. According to Houston Office of Emergency Management spokesman Michael Walter, a minimum of nine individuals were transported to hospitals with injuries from the shooting. The incident took place near Wesleyan Street and Bissonnet Street. The statuses of those injured are unknown at the moment. There are no reports of any other shooters at this time, per the Houston Police Department official Tweeter feed. It wrote the following shortly after apprehending the suspect, whose name has not yet been released: An emergency alert went out this morning that stated the shooting scene was believed to have been contained to the area of a strip mall. The alert told residents in the area to stay far away. Authorities have not released further details regarding the shooting, according to CNN and other outlets. But KTRK reports that firefighters and police officers swarmed the scene once gunfire broke out. UPDATE : At least one victim is in critical condition, while another is in serious condition. The conditions of the other victims remain unknown. We’re also learned that the suspect was an attorney and that authorities are investigating whether issues at his law firm led to the shooting. A bomb squad reportedly searched the suspect’s vehicle and found “additional weapons inside,” the police now confirm. One witness, Antwon Wilson, told ABC 13 that he was caught in the crossfire. And he’ll never forget the experience. “I literally heard the gunshots past my face,” he told the station. “It’s a hard pill to swallow.” We will continue to update this story as more news breaks.

So Sad: Two Houston High School Students Killed In School Bus Crash

Houston Students Killed In Bus Crash Two Houston families are in mourning after their children were killed when a bus plunged from Loop 610. In addition to the two fatalities, authorities report that two other students were injured when bus driver Luisia Pacheo”overcorrected” her steering to avoid a car. The Houston Chronicle reports: Two students died and two others were hurt along with their bus driver Tuesday morning when a collision caused a school bus to plunge from Loop 610 in southeast Houston, officials said. The bus landed on the eastbound frontage road of the South Loop near Telephone Road about 7 a.m., Houston police said. The dead students were identified as a 14-year-old Furr High School freshman Janiecia Chatman and Mariya Johnson, a 17-year-old student at REACH charter school, a dropout recovery school on the Furr campus. The freshman died at a hospital and the older student at the scene. The other two students, both who attend REACH, had serious injuries, officials said. An HISD official identified one of the injured students as Lakeshia Williams; the other was her twin brother, Brandon. The bus driver was identified as Luisa Pacheco, was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. She had non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. As police continue their investigation, Houston Police Department spokesman Victor Senties said the driver of a Buick LaSabre told investigators she thought another vehicle near her was drifting into her lane. She veered away and hit the side of the bus. Pacheco apparently over-corrected and the bus careened from the overpass, Senties added. So sad, condolences to those families. Race Matters: Beauty Supply Store Ordered Strip Search On Black Couple Over $3 Earrings…”You People Always Steal!!”

Black Couple Strip Searched Over $3 Earrings At Beauty Supply Store SMH. According to KHOU Houston: Deadra Pattum and her fiancé John Marsden have a bone to pick with Y Beauty Supply in southeast Houston. The couple said they were humiliated inside the store last week when they stopped by to purchase some hair extensions. “I’m not a thief,” said Pattum. They said they were over-billed for a pair of $3 earrings they never took. “I picked them up but I put them back,” said Pattum. “The owner said you people always steal,” said Marsden. “And he said give me the earrings and I call police. My rights were revoked. The couple claimed they were threatened and forced to remain in that store. Marsden said he was intimidated by the manager and ordered to strip down and be searched. “So I took off my socks and shoes and I took off my pants,” said Marsden. “I was nervous.” Within minutes, a security officer showed up, and immediately looked at the surveillance video. “She never left the counter with those earrings in her hand,” the guard said. “There was no evidence of shoplifting.” Houston Police agreed. Their officers looked at the same video and found no evidence of shoplifting. Activist Quanell X is now involved. “This was a classic case of racial profiling in its most humiliating form,” said Quanell X. “And something needs to be done about this.” The owners of the store refused to discuss the specific incident but said shoplifting is a big problem at their business. But Pattum insists she and her fiancé did nothing wrong. “Everybody doesn’t shoplift,” said Pattum. “Everybody is not a thief. There are still honest people in the world.” Wow. Over $3 earrings though?????? Craziness. KHOU

People Aint Isht: Woman Pleads Guilty To Killing Husband In His Sleep After Lying For 28 Years

What’s done in the dark will always come to light. Wife Admits To Killing Husband It took her 28 years to do the right thing. According to Houston Chronicle: It was supposed to be the work of a barefoot man who snuck into a Houston couple’s home in 1985, had forced sex with a woman, killed a man and escaped without a trace. In reality, it was a wife who shot her husband as he slept, then went on for 28 years living a lie. Carolyn Sue Krizan-Wilson, 71, admitted Wednesday in a Harris County courtroom that she shot Roy McCaleb, her husband of two years, almost three decades ago. “Guilty,” was all Krizan said when asked for her plea by state District Judge Ryan Patrick. In exchange for the plea, Krizan-Wilson was sentenced to six months in jail, which will be followed by 10 years probation. The relatively light punishment, though, was not as important as finding out the truth, said McCaleb’s daughter Pam Nalley. “She is willingly admitting that she murdered him and that’s something we’ve known all these years,” Nalley said. “I think that means more to me than anything.” James Stafford, an attorney for Krizan-Wilson said the septuagenarian is suffering from dementia and a host of other health issues and wanted to get past the case against her. McCaleb, a construction foreman, was 50 when he was killed on Sept. 22, 1985. Krizan-Wilson was 43. McCaleb was heavily sedated because of a recent back surgery, Krizan-Wilson said after the shooting. He was also recovering from a heart attack. SMH. In speaking to reporters after the death, Krizan-Wilson told a fantastic story about being car-jacked then raped about 10 days before the shooting by a barefoot man with a knife. She said she didn’t report it because she feared it would hinder her husband’s recuperation. Day later, she told authorities, the man came into the couple’s North Shore home through an unlocked door on a Sunday night. She claimed the man threatened her, scraped her with a coat hanger and dripped hot wax on her. He again held a knife to her throat and raped her, she said. The man then took the gun she kept under her pillow, went to where her husband was sleeping and shot him, she said. As the man fled the scene, she said, the two collided and the intruder dropped the gun. She picked it up and fired two shots after him as he fled, she reported. Days without a suspect or any new leads stretched into months, then years until investigators picked the cold case up again after 23 years. In 2008, police arrested the widow, who had been a civilian employee at the Houston Police Department as her two sons climbed the ranks as police officers. After the arrest, her attorneys argued that too much time had passed to indict Krizan-Wilson, a position that swayed former state District Judge Kevin Fine. Fine dismissed the case, and for the past five years, it wound its way through the appellate courts. The dismissal was reversed and sent back to the original court now presided over by Patrick. Krizan-Wilson will begin her six months in jail on Dec. 26. Six months in jail and 10 years probation for killing a man and lying about it for 28 years? If she was black, this isht would be a different story. Shutterstock

You Can’t Be Serious: Texas Teenagers Arrested For Cutting A Hole In Mall Roof To Steal Air Jordan Sneakers

These kids and these cotdamn shoes…SMMFH Texas Teens Arrested For Breaking In To Mall To Steal Air Jordan Sneakers Two teenagers were arrested this week after cutting into the roof of a mall in Houston to steal Nike Air Jordan sneakers. A security guard at Greenspoint mall, on the north side of Houston, saw the thieves in the Foot Action store early Wednesday morning and called police. John Grant, 19, and another male, 16, were arrested at the scene, but a third suspect believed to be around the same age fled. “We believe we know the identity of the third male who fled on foot and is still wanted,” Cannon said. Grant has a court date of Aug. 29 at a state district court and is currently in custody with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Police and the prosecutor’s office will not release any details about the 16-year-old because he is a minor. Grant, who does not have an attorney according to court records, could not be reached for comment. John Cannon, Houston Police spokesman, said officers responded to a burglary call at 4:45 A.M. on Wednesday and found the suspects stole 16 pairs of Nike Air Jordan sneakers valued at $175 each. Limited editions of specific Nike sneakers, such as the soon-to-be-released LeBron X Nike Plus basketball sneaker, are often bought and re-sold for costs as high as $1,000. Violence and long lines have plagued stores like Foot Locker as fans wait hours for a limited number of sneakers. As for the perpetrators… Police charged the minor with burglary of a building, a felony, and evading police on foot, which is a misdemeanor.
