Hey Groomer… Leave That Dog Alone!: Animal Abuse At Dog Salon Caught On Tape [Video]

A groomer at a downtown dog daycare and grooming facility was fired Thursday evening after allegations of animal abuse surfaced late last week, the daycare’s owner confirmed.Dean Miles, who owns Fur Kids Daycare, said he was shown videos last Friday that showed the groomer apparently striking a dog and trying to force another out of a kennel using a vacuum cleaner.The videos were allegedly taken last Tuesday by a former employee, who was also the groomer’s apprentice, Miles said. “The safety of our dogs is the most important thing because that’s our business,” Miles said. “When things like this happen, you’ve got to react to it.”This is the first time there have been any allegations of animal abuse at the daycare, said Miles. The Calgary Humane Society is currently investigating and has seen “several” videos, said Brad Nichols, head of the Calgary Humane Society’s protection and investigations department.”We’re lookingat the video, we’re gathering statements, and once we have everything compiled, we’ll send it to the Crown prosecutor’s office for an opinion on appropriate enforcement action, if any,” Nichols said.The Humane Society receives a “handful” of abuse allegations against groomers and boarders each year, he said. Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones were all on the red carpet for the premiere of Side Effects in New York City, and I asked them what it was like making a modern Hitchcock film. “It pleases me to hear you say ‘modern Hitchcock film’ because that was our hope, to do something like that” said Hollywood mega-producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.  “It’s a tradition that’s been ignored a lot in the last decade.” Rooney Mara plays Emily Taylor, a young woman whose world unravels when the anti-anxiety drug she is prescribed has some unexpected side effects, and the actress told me that signing on for the psychological thriller was an easy decision thanks to Steven Soderbergh’s involvement.  “A director is the most important thing” Mara noted about choosing a project. What side effects can audiences expect after seeing the movie?  Screenwriter Scott Z Burns hopes “the desire to see it two or three times” is one of them.  That’s right,   Side Effects is meant to be addictive. Happy Birthday Chace Crawford and Nelson Mandela!

A CW star and former South African President both celebrate birthdays today. First, Chace Crawford – who just started shooting Gossip Girl Season 6 – turns 27, as fans don’t need to worry about gifting him with anyone aside from their best wishes. He’s rumored to be dating Erin Andrews , after all. The actor doesn’t need anything else in life. Nelson Mandela, meanwhile, turns 94. The activist spent 27 years in prison and eventually helped turn his nation into a democracy, defeating the evils of apartheid along the way. That’s almost as impressive an achievement as the whole Andrews thing for Crawford. Other stars celebrating birthdays today include: Kristen Bell (32), Vin Diesel (45), Richard Branson (62).

Finding Nemo Sequel: Confirmed for 2016!

Film fans will be asked to track down their favorite little fish again in 2016, as Pixar has announced plans for a Finding Nemo sequel. The follow-up to the 2003 blockbuster – which took in $867 million worldwide and will be released again in 3D this September – has been confirmed by director Andrew Stanton, who will once again go behind the camera for the animated flick. Finding Nemo remains the second-highest grossing movie in Pixar history behind Toy Story 3 and is the fifth-highest grossing animated feature of all-time behind that one, The Lion King , Shrek 2 and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs . It’s unclear at the moment whether actors such as Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres will reprise their voice roles in the sequel, but the important thing here is that we all take Dory’s advice to heart: Just keep swimming, people.

Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan: It’s Over!

Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan of the NBA’s LA Lakers and VH1’s Basketball Wives fame, respectively, have announced their split. They had a nice run together, mostly. After calling off their engagement last year, but convincing the public they’re still a couple, the two confirmed the breakup we ALL knew was coming this week. Matt emailed out a statement today about the split from Gloria Govan (sister of Gilbert Arenas baby mana/Shaq mistress Laura Govan ), saying the following: “I’d like to address rumors surrounding mine and Gloria’s relationship. We’ve reached the difficult decision of ending our relationship and will be going our separate ways. We will work together to raise our sons and wish each other only the best.” Gloria just tweeted her statement saying: “I’m sure you guys are hearing a ton of buzz about Matt and Me breaking up, sorry to say… its true!!!!!! But the most important thing is focusing on my kids and continuing to have a good relationship with their father, thanks for your support!!!” A heated Twitter exchange this month between Matt and a fan – who suggested Barnes should Govan or else someone else will – was a bad sign. Responded Barnes: “He can have her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Classy. Meanwhile, she Tweeted Saturday: “If someone is dumb enough to walk away, be smart enough to let them go. We know that traveling can be stressful with all of the pre-planning that’s necessary. Don’t let that empty duffel bag in the corner give you more anxiety. We have put together a packing guide to help you pack light and jump the gun on your summer trip planning! One important thing to keep in mind when you’re packing is that you will probably have to carry your bag for most of your trip: so, pack light! You want to try to fit as much of your stuff in a small amount of space, so be smart with your folding. I have found that the best way to pack clothing is by rolling it , kind of like a wrap. The clothes get much smaller and you can layer them! Now we get to the specific essentials. First and foremost, toiletries : Bag 1: Liquids Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash Toothpaste Hand Sanitizer Sunscreen/Bug Spray (depending on where you’re venturing off to) Bag 2: Non-Liquids Hair Brush Toothbrush Razor Q-tips Antiperspirant Make-up bag Band-aids (you never know) It’s always a good idea to divide your toiletries into two bags to avoid the typical “shampoo exploding and ruining everything” disaster. Keep in mind that these should all be travel-sized. You do not want to be carrying around giant bottles of shampoo just to have them taken away at the airport. Next, the rest of what you need should be relative to where you’re going .
