The Walking Dead returned to the air Sunday night, and it was an hour that was filled with twists and a whole lot of zombie goodness. A lot was left up in the air after the shock death of Jesus at the hands of The Whisperers, but one of the more pressing questions surrounded what became of Negan. The supervillain managed to escape from his jail cell in Alexandria thanks to someone leaving it unlocked. Judith was shocked to see him scaling the wall to escape but realized that she was best to leave him to his own devices. She thought he would return in the end, but did that ring true? This is the man who murdered a bunch of our heroes, so it’s difficult to imagine redemption being on the cards for him. Stranger things have happened on this show. Negan did return to the Sanctuary, but there was little to see. The place he once yelled orders from afar was a ghost town. His world as he knew it was over. In a shocking turn of events, he returned to Alexandria. Everyone needs to keep an eye on him at this stage because he’s probably looking for the time to strike. When he does, it will spell doom for a bunch of characters. Hell, maybe he’ll be able to help out with The Whisperers. The Hilltop, meanwhile, started off the hour wondering what happened to the search party. Yeah, the same search party that was ambushed by The Whisperers. Jist as Luke and Alden launched another search party to investigate, the OG team returned … with a body. Jesus was definitely dead, so there’s no chance of him popping back up down the line. The only good news here is that they brought one of The Whisperers back with them. The woman did not want to reveal too much, and that was too be expected from someone who is part of the new band of villains. As such, bringing her back was a big waste of time because it’s only going to make the rest of her crew want to find her before she dies. With The Whisperers hiding in plain sight as zombies, it’s certainly difficult to find them. Away from the Hilltop, Alden and Luke found themselves in a bit of a pickle. They walk straight into a group of the new villains before a woman appears in her full zombie get up. “Trail ends here,” she says. Yikes. For ages, fans have longed to know if a Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez wedding is on the way . They’ve been official for more than a year and a half. Now, fans believe that they’ve spotted J Lo sporting a massive diamind ring. Take a look, below: The ring made its debut on Alex Rodriguez’s Instagram in a video set in the stands of a baseball stadium. “Alright, here we are at Fenway,” Alex says. “After four and a half… two to one, Dodgers!” he says. Then he asks: “Jennifer, what’s the sign?” She gestures, as you’re about to see, as if making a ruling on the game. “Alright, there you have it,” he says. “Looks like a hit and run, back to you, Joe!” Fans and followers were less interested in his pretend sports commentary than they were in that whopper of a diamond ring. “Yoooooo did somebody get their ring?!” asked a fan. That fan continued: “Forget the finals, tell me this is real!” “That’s a big rock for Jenny from the block!” quipped another commenter. “What is that bling @jlo,” another asked. “Are you love birds engaged?” After more than a year and a half of officially dating, it would not be a surprise. Now, some folks very wisely pointed out that this may have been bait or that these hopeful fans may have been jumping the gun. After all, the ring appears to be on J Lo’s right hand — not, traditionally speaking, where one wears a ring. But some very observant followers noticed that, in comparison to other phtoos, she and Alex’s positions seemed to be reversed. In other words, that the video was mirrored. “She’s actually on opposite side,” a commenter writes. “Watch her video, it’s on her left and she’s sitting to the right of him.” If that comment is correct, she’s wearing a huge diamond ring on her left ring finger. A pal of Alex made a very blunt comment. The comment reads: “The sign I see is engagement!” Those words were followed by three diamond emojis. Curiously, Alex chose to respond. “Hi Kimberly!” he wrote back. “Miss you guys!” He followed his words with a thumbs up emoji. Out of everything, Alex’s comment-without-commenting seems like the strongest indicator. Sometimes, celebrities leak their own news in a way that gives them plausible deniability about it. They drop hints and build up hype before they’re ready to make things official. In the mean time, sometimes celebrities play pranks on their fans when those fans are hoping for something. It’s weird, we know. Finally, sometimes people don’t even think about their jewelry or what it might signify. Yes, even public figures. These two didn’t go public until March of 2017, but were believed to be dating before that. It may be that they have now taken the next step and are simply engaged in plain sight. Researcher Claims Origin From Twerk Is German Via HuffPo reports In descriptions of grinding and the Harlem Shake, twerk occurs with great regularity. The verb means “to move one’s buttocks in a suggestive way.” It has not yet made its way into OED and perhaps never will (let us hope so), but its origin hardly poses a problem: twerk must be a blend of twist (or twitch) and work (or jerk), a close relative of such verbs as squirm (possibly a blend of dialectal squir “to throw with a jerk” and worm) and twirl (? twist + whirl). When blends are coined “in plain sight” — as happened to brunch, motel, and Eurasia — no one has questions about their descent. The noun designates a rope made of two threads, a twirl, and refers to various distortions. Hence the verb twist “to intertwine; curve; wring.” Especially characteristic are the Germanic congeners of twist: German Zwist ~ Low German twist “quarrel, discord”; Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish also have tvist (the same meaning). Twig “a small shoot of a tree” seems to be akin to some words for “fork.” If this is true, then a twig once denoted a forked branch, an object with two prongs. How it acquired its modern meaning remains unclear. German Zweig does not conjure up a picture of a tiny branch, though it is smaller than an Ast “bough.” (Did Dickens hint to the vicissitudes in the fate of his hero when he called him Twist? We didn’t want drive-by journalism: in and out in a few days, talking to government officials in hotel lobbies. But getting to the war’s front lines, without drawing too much attention to ourselves, proved complicated. Our Somali country coordinator made it possible.
