W hen NFL running back Marshawn Lynch isn’t breaking through tackles on the football field, he’s breaking barriers for underserved communities. Lynch has continually used his platform as an avenue to give back to his hometown of Oakland, California. According to CBS Sports , he’s now leading an effort to address gentrification in the community that he was born and raised in. Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch is known for interesting answers to interview questions. https://t.co/anLZw78mmY — NBC Los Angeles (@NBCLA) January 20, 2019 During a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher , Lynch shared that he would use his earnings to buy real estate in Oakland in an effort to ensure that individuals who have been in the community for decades won’t be pushed out of their home, the news outlet writes. He shared that witnessing the effects of gentrification and seeing the displacement of people from the community that he called home prompted him to take action. “It’s basically when, for me, it’s a lot of white people come move into the hood and kick everybody out that’s there. I’ve been a witness of it since I was a small jitterbug so I mean now that I’m grown up and I’m seeing it, I understand it a little more,” he said during the interview with Maher, according to the news outlet. During the conversation, Lynch also delved into how sports and activism are intertwined, mentioning how using his platform in the NFL to spread awareness about social injustice doesn’t make him unpatriotic. Lynch’s plan to fight gentrification and provide equitable housing for people from his community is just one of many of his philanthropic efforts. Last year, his mobile device company Beast Mobile teamed up with Fam1st Family Foundation to create an initiative called Phones for the Homeless where 3,000 homeless people on the West Coast received smartphones and three months of free service. Through the initiative, users were able to stay in touch with their loved ones and the data was used to examine the habits and whereabouts of homeless individuals to find better ways to serve that population. Simmons College Launches Initiative To Recruit, Retain More Black Teachers

R epresentation is everything, especially in the realm of education. According to a study released by the National Bureau of Economic Research, Black students who have two Black teachers are 32 percent more likely to pursue their college education. Cognizant of the importance of representation, Louisville-based Simmons College has launched a new program as an avenue to produce more Black teachers, the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education reported. #SimmonsCollege Partners With Local Schools to Produce More Black Teachers https://t.co/xVozorIgAu #HBCUs — NewsToter.com (@NewsToter) January 11, 2019 The HBCU is teaming up with Jefferson County Public Schools for the initiative, the news outlet writes. As part of the program, graduates of Simmons College will have the opportunity to go through a 12-week accelerated summer program and eventually be placed at schools within the district. Organizers of the initiative hope to have graduates teaching in public schools by Fall 2019. The concept for the initiative came after the district realized there was a major gap between Black teachers and students. The district had a huge issue with hiring and keeping Black teachers. Although 35 percent of students in the county are African American, only 12 percent of the teachers are Black. The school district hopes to raise that percentage to 18 percent by 2020 through it’s Racial Equity Plan. “We believe we can be a catalyst in this area as it relates to our local school system and also across the state,” said Executive Vice President of Simmons College Dr. Frank Smith Jr. , according to the news outlet. There has been a major push to increase racial representation in classrooms. Last year in Connecticut, House representatives unanimously passed a bill to instruct the state’s Department of Education to recruit and retain more teachers of color. President Obama Brings Rappers To The White House Salute to President Obama , and artists like Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Common and Ludacris, who are already doing their part to help create change in America’s criminal justice system. According to AP reports Friday President Barack Obama met with Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes, Common, Janelle Monae, Ludacris, Chance The Rapper, J.Cole, Timbaland, Talib Kweli, Rapsody, ASAP Rocky, Wale and DJ Khaled to continue discussions around his administration’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative and criminal justice reform. Obama was also joined at the meeting by his senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and Broderick Johnson, who is the chair of the My Brother’s Keeper Task Force. Started by Obama in February 2014, the initiative involves working with businesses, foundations and community groups to help young people gain access to higher education and keep them out of the criminal justice system. Foundations and Businesses have already committed over $500 million in grants and $1 billion in financing through community banks including investments in schools, mentoring programs, juvenile justice reforms and school redesign. Last week, when Emilia Clarke said she wanted to see more penis on Game of Thrones , what she really meant was, she wanted to see more penis on Game of Thrones . Clarke clarified her position to Conan O'Brien when she appeared on his talk show last night. “Okay, full disclosure, my mum really told me off for saying that,” she said sheepishly, just before she reiterated that she really wanted to see more penis on Game of Thrones . “I think there should be more equal nudity,” she told the host. “There's plenty of female nudity, myself included, and I think there should be… some equal male nudity and female nudity.” And to that we say… OH HELL YES. Conan naively suspects she may be talking about male backsides, but lo, he is mistaken and must be schooled by his sidekick Andy Richter. “She's talking about Game of BONES!” he shouts. DUH, Conan. Indeed, Emilia means ween. “Free the penis,” she said, just to make sure we got it. Emilia's not the only star who is bringing awareness to this grave injustice. Last year, Kevin Bacon suggested , nay, demanded, that male members become more prominent on the big and small screens, and even recommended that  GOT  take the initiative. ” Game of Thrones , you got three sex scenes an episode. How hard would it be to just show one or two wieners every couple of minutes?” he queried. Can't argue with that logic. “This is an issue of gender equality. Let me be on the show, come on, I'll play a naked wizard or something,” he insisted. What do you say, GOT ? You've likely got just one season left , so how about finally giving the viewers what they want – what they deserve .  MORE DONG!!!

Revenge Season 3 Premiere Recap: Fear

With a new season of red Sharpie marks and  haute coutoure  dresses,  Revenge season 3 is back! New to the show this season? Justin Hartley . Just what drama will another summer in the Hamptons bring? Read our recap below to find out! (And be sure to check out the  Revenge  review for a more in-depth discussion of the premiere.) Time to Swim: In the opening sequence, Emily, in a wedding dress, drinking champagne, gets shot twice in the stomach and falls into the ocean. And then she wakes up poolside in New York City. Dream? Flash-forward? Who knows? Not me. The Prodigal Son:  While everyone else has been everywhere else, Victoria spent the hiatus in the Hamptons with her long lost son Patrick. They rode horses. She played piano. Charlotte called her Lady Chatterly and Oedipus jokes abound. Charlotte! Charlotte! Charlotte!!:  Charlotte whines about how they no longer own a home in Paris and she found out at 2 a.m. after taking a shuttle from Brussels. She’s no longer pregnant and not all that mopey over Declan. She’s still whiny, pouty, entitled Charlotte though. The more things change, you know? Prison Break: Nolan’s out of jail. His hacked Carrion program finally ferreted out and delivered up all remaining members of the Initiative and exonerated him. So now he and Ems and the rest of everybody everywhere vow never to say the words “Carrion” or “Initiative” again. Ever. Just Jack:  Jack and Carl spent the winter visiting family members, but now they’re back at the Stowaway. Or at least Jack is back. Little Carl’s whereabouts are up in the air. He faux-apologizes to Emily for ignoring her, kisses her, then breaks her heart into a million billion pieces. Not like she didn’t  deserve it a little, but yeah. And she has until the end of the summer to ruin the Graysons and get the heck out of dodge or he’s going to expose her. So that’s fun. It’s Her Party: Emily throws a Memorial Day Summer kick-off party for the Hamptons and unveils Conrad’s Governor’s portrait just as he collapses thanks to something she put in his water. They all go to the hospital where tests show Conrad has Huntington’s disease and now he can’t be governor anymore. There go his plans for world domination. Teamwork: Emily and Victoria team up to take down Ashley, who tried to blackmail Emily. Meh. Wedding Bells Are Ringing:  Daniel and Emily set a date to get married. And Aiden returns with objections to their union. Objections which he takes to Victoria and not Emily. So that was nice of him. What did you think of the  Revenge season 3 premiere, THGers? Tracy Morgan Collapses At Sundance

By Gil Kaufman Tracy Morgan at Sundance Film Festival Photo: Getty Images “30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan was rushed to a Utah hospital on Sunday after falling unconscious at an awards ceremony during the Sundance Film Festival. Morgan was honored with an award at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards in Park City, Utah when he seemed disoriented during his speech and was escorted out of the building a short time later, where he fell unconscious, according to TMZ . The comedian was rushed by ambulance to the Park City Medical Center and a spokesperson for the hospital said that no drugs or alcohol were found in his system. A rep for the actor released a statement explaining, “from a combination of exhaustion and altitude, Tracy is seeking medical attention … He is with his fianc
