Marshawn Lynch Is Pushing Back Against Gentrification In Oakland

Read the original here:

W hen NFL running back Marshawn Lynch isn’t breaking through tackles on the football field, he’s breaking barriers for underserved communities. Lynch has continually used his platform as an avenue to give back to his hometown of Oakland, California. According to CBS Sports , he’s now leading an effort to address gentrification in the community that he was born and raised in. Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch is known for interesting answers to interview questions. https://t.co/anLZw78mmY — NBC Los Angeles (@NBCLA) January 20, 2019 During a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher , Lynch shared that he would use his earnings to buy real estate in Oakland in an effort to ensure that individuals who have been in the community for decades won’t be pushed out of their home, the news outlet writes. He shared that witnessing the effects of gentrification and seeing the displacement of people from the community that he called home prompted him to take action. “It’s basically when, for me, it’s a lot of white people come move into the hood and kick everybody out that’s there. I’ve been a witness of it since I was a small jitterbug so I mean now that I’m grown up and I’m seeing it, I understand it a little more,” he said during the interview with Maher, according to the news outlet. During the conversation, Lynch also delved into how sports and activism are intertwined, mentioning how using his platform in the NFL to spread awareness about social injustice doesn’t make him unpatriotic. Lynch’s plan to fight gentrification and provide equitable housing for people from his community is just one of many of his philanthropic efforts. Last year, his mobile device company Beast Mobile teamed up with Fam1st Family Foundation to create an initiative called Phones for the Homeless where 3,000 homeless people on the West Coast received smartphones and three months of free service. Through the initiative, users were able to stay in touch with their loved ones and the data was used to examine the habits and whereabouts of homeless individuals to find better ways to serve that population. In addition to the video, Marshawn is hosting an online contest with Omaze for fans who want to see the Oakland Raiders take on his old team, the Seattle Seahawks in London. Saltine Fury: Room Temperature Sour Cream Twitter Is Big Mad At Lavar Ball’s CNN Appearance

CNN Lavar Ball Destroys Trump We knew to expect some insanity when it was announced that Lavar Ball would be on CNN talking about Y’all President calling him out for being “ungrateful” about his son being allowed to return to the US after shoplifting in China. The CNN interview went off the rails immediately and was pure comedy as only Lavar Ball can provide. So you know what happened next: Lavar Ball is an ungrateful jerk. If he were white, you know what I'd call him? An ungrateful jerk. Marshawn Lynch is an ungrateful jerk. If he were white, you know what I'd call him? An ungrateful jerk. It's got nothing to do with race. — Joe Walsh (@WalshFreedom) November 21, 2017 The mayo packets are full of vinegary bitterness and we love it. Otto Warmbier's parents said Thank You to Trump after their son was brought home in a coma and later died… Lavar Ball's son comes home within a week of his crime perfectly healthy and this asshole can't even say Thanks? WOW. — CHIZ (@CHIZMAGA) November 21, 2017 Take a look at more anguish and more celebrating from people who loved the appearance.

Speaking to ESPN SportsCenter’s Michael Eaves, Raiders offensive tackle Donald Penn explained that his teammate Marshawn was simply looking out for Peters: “Marshawn was just trying to get his cousin and make sure his cousin was safe because Marshawn saw three big O-linemen going after his cousin and Marshawn knows how we get down as offensive linemen. And he knows how his cousin gets down, so I think he was just trying to stop something from getting bigger than it was. He didn’t know if a punch was going to get thrown or if it was going to blow up. I think he was just trying to get in there to get his cousin to the sideline, get things safe, get us back playing.” After being ejected from the game, Marshawn went up to the stands to watch the game with fans. Following that, he took public transportation home and didn’t exactly lay low like he might have wanted. FYI, Marshawn Lynch did not leave. Marshawn Lynch Might Reactivate ‘Beast Mode’ As He Eyes Possible Return To NFL

The Bay Area Legend Might Not Be Done With Football Yet Marshawn Lynch  gave football fans the blues when he announced his retirement at the end of the 2015 NFL season. Lynch had become something of a superhero, deftly denying reporters and journalists of quotes while coining popular phrases like “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.” While he’s been having a great time gallivanting on his summer trips, reports are saying he might want to lace up the cleats one more time. That’s right, Marshawn Lynch might be headed back to the NFL. Via RealGM Marshawn Lynch retired in the offseason but he already is mulling a return. Lynch is currently “up in the air” about coming out of retirement with a Week 4 or Week 5 return possible. The Seattle Seahawks still hold Lynch’s rights since he was placed on the reserve-retired list. If Lynch returns before the trade deadline, which comes on the Tuesday after Week Eight, Lynch would become a free agent, if released. After the trade deadline, he would pass through waivers, if the Seahawks cut him. The Seahawks have appeared to move on from Lynch with Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael.
