J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake have been swapping the first place spot all season on Dancing With the Stars. Last night, it was definitely the latter’s turn on top. While he’s never one to complain (look at all he’s been through in life), J.R. rolled his right ankle in rehearsal and then twisted it again during his routines. The famous smile that lights up the dance floor was barely there Monday, replaced by grimaces of pain and looks of disappointment. His posture was off. J.R. and Karina Smirnoff did manage to turn in a sexy Argentine tango to make up for a subpar Paso Doble, but it’ll be up to fans to carry him through. Last night’s Dancing With the Stars was the J.R. Martinez show. He had two chances to redeem himself from an off-week last Monday and boy did he deliver. If this continues, everyone else is dancing for second place. Martinez scored, not one but two, perfect 30s – first for his waltz, then for his instant jive with Karina Smirnoff – the first dancer to do so in Season 13. J.R. Totally involved, totally dedicated.” “This is a war on the floor,” Len Goodman added. “Each week is a battle. Last week you retreated a bit, but, like the soldier you are you came back, guns blazing.” The Iraq War vet, soap opera actor and motivational speaker certainly has the inspiring story, fan support and dance moves to take home the Mirror Ball. Lindsay Lohan hit up the morgue this morning for community service, and showed up a full 20 minutes early to boot! Just when you thought you’d seen it all! The troubled star must find the time in between clubbing and posing nude for Playboy to put in 16 hours at the L.A. County Coroner’s Office by November 2. While washing soiled morgue linens and scrubbing toilets isn’t exactly fun, she can at least go home to her apartment afterward. In jail? Not so much. In typical Lohan, she stirred up controversy last week when she showed up late for her first day on the job and was told to beat it by coroner’s officials. Then the next day, she showed up on time … and tried to have cupcakes delivered for the staff (plus In-N-Out burgers, which are the best). Big no-no. She later apologized, saying she was simply trying to apologize for being late the day before, but officials were none too pleased by the charade. Next week, at her progress hearing, Judge Stephanie Sautner will decide whether to yank Lohan’s probation and throw her in jail for a long time. Should she?
Patrice O’Neal, a famous comedian who recently performed on Comedy Central’s Charlie Sheen Roast , has suffered a massive stroke. The announcement was made this morning by fellow comic Jim Norton on the Opie and Anthony Show. “We don’t know how he is. We don’t know how he’s going to be,” said Norton. “I didn’t want to do this by myself. I wish we had more news for you.” A statement was also posted on the show’s Facebook page. It encourages fans to send in well wishes and reads: “Our close friend Patrice O’Neal suffered a stroke last week. Please respect his family and their request for privacy. An email has been set up for fans to send him well wishes and his family will make sure he gets them. You can write to LoveForPatrice@gmail.com. First, Us Weekly quotes an anonymous, hilarious source who says the newlyweds “are not getting along at all. Kris is not drinking the Kardashian Kool-Aid, and it’s causing major problems.” The main problem actually centers around the NBA lockout: with no games to play, and no income at the moment, Humphries is allegedly a drag to his new wife, according to a friend who cites an October 21 argument between the pair: “She told him he need s to do something productive… He needs to get off his ass, like, yesterday.” OK! Weekly , meanwhile, reports that Kris is very different than the rest of the family. He just isn’t very nice, and Kim thinks she may have jumped into marriage too soon. “Kris has a mean streak,” a confidante claims. “He can be cruel, a jerk; he doesn’t get that what he does has consequences and that people can have their feelings hurt. J.R. Martinez is dominating Dancing With the Stars this season, and it’s not because of his fancy footwork (although he’s certainly not a slouch in that area). His life, featured on People’s cover , is one of triumph and redemption. For millions of Dancing with the Stars fans, there’s never been an easier contender to root for, given his dance moves, personality and compelling life story . “I’m being blessed in so many ways, and it’s because of the energy I’m putting out in the world,” says the All My Children actor, who backs that claim up. J.R. Martinez survived a 2003 explosion while a soldier serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq. The trauma was unimaginable, but worth it in the end, he says. If not for the Humvee he was driving hitting a land mine, “My life would not be what it is today: full of joy, happiness and positivity,” Martinez reflects. Since the explosion, which burned 40 percent of his body and required a grueling 34-month treatment, Martinez made a point to live every day like his last. Whether that earns him a Mirror Ball trophy or not is irrelevant. He’s already embraced and all that life has to offer and become a true role model at age 28. He’s also embraced Karina Smirnoff. A lot. That alone is amazing. When he’s not acting or dancing, Martinez travels the world as a motivational speaker, spreading his positive message of positivity and triumph over adversity. “When you show people who you really are and you’re genuine, you don’t have to force positivity,” says Martinez, who’s confident with the man he’s become. “I’m not your typical person walking down the street. Channeling his Latino heritage, Martinez delivered a samba that was “muy caliente,” Carrie Ann Inaba said. Bruno Tonioli called him a “sex machine” with “so much fire down below” women might hurl themselves off the balcony to get to him. Ah, Bruno. He’s not wrong, though.
