Jinger Duggar Rocks Short Sleeves; Fans Go Wild

When you consider all the drama that’s surrounded the Duggar family in recent years, it’s more than a little surprising that something as seemingly prosaic as Jinger Duggar’s wardrobe would be favorite topic of discussion for so many fans. But for many who have watched her grow from a young tomboy to a happily married woman, Jinger’s clothing conveys so much more than simply her taste in fashion. Many were surprised when a photo of Jinger wearing pants surfaced on social media, as like her sisters, Jinger was forced to abide by a strict dress code while she was living under her parents’ roof. In the Duggar household, women are forbidden to wear pants, and instead must sport floor-length skirts at all times, even when engaged in sports or other physical activities. “We do not dress modestly because we are ashamed of the body God has given us; quite the contrary,” the Duggar girls wrote in their 2014 memoir, Growing Up Duggar . “We realize that our body is a special gift from God and that He intends for it to be shared only with our future husband… We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we wear an undershirt.” They added: “We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over. We don’t want to play the peekaboo game with our neckline.”  When pressed on the matter, the family would always explain that the girls consented to the dress code, having adopted their parents’ views on the importance of modest attire. Despite that explanation, Jinger defiantly bucked that trend when she married Jeremy Vuolo . Once Duggar women are married, it’s their husbands, not their fathers who make most of the decisions about their lifestyle. (Yes, people still live this way in 2017.) Jeremy doesn’t share Jim Bob’s conservative views on women’s fashion, and as a result, Jinger can wear pretty much whatever she wants. We’ve already seen Jinger wear shorts , heels, tight pants … and now, she’s moving on to exposed arms. Yes, she might be conservatively dressed by most people’s standards, but for a Duggar, this look is downright risque. For the most part, fans have been supportive of Jinger’s bold decision to wear a freakin’ t-shirt, but there are those who find the situation to ridiculous to applaud. “Now she started to wear pants and dresses that leave arms uncovered,” one follower wrote on Instagram. “At 23 years old. Because her husband’s told her she can do it. In 2017. Ok.” We share the sentiment, but it’s important to remember that Jinger didn’t create her family’s bizarre code of conduct–and tossing it aside constitutes a laudable act of bravery. Face of Jesus Appears in Sonogram, Couple Claims

Okay, bear with us please, because this is more than a little weird. Just about every modern pregnancies comes with at least one sonogram, an image of a fetus in development that doctors use to monitor health and development. Parents use it to share their excitement. But one couple spotted something a little odd on their sonogram. And it looked, to them, like Jesus. You see it, right? Right there on the left. You see what looks like a long-haired guy with a beard. Culturally, we’re taught to recognize that, not as Poseidon or basically any dude from the 1970s, but as Jesus. This sonogram was taken shortly before Briella was born. Briella’s parents, Alicia Zeek and Zac Smith, were struck immediately by the distinctive image in their sonogram. Alicia and Zac, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, spoke about the phenomenon. “When they gave it to us… Umm, to me, it’s Jesus,” Alicia says. “And it looks like Jesus.” At first, she couldn’t believe her eyes. “I blinked a lot, to kinda make sure I was really seeing it…” Zac also spoke about it. “This is distinct — I mean, there’s another face looking at my daughter!” The couple say that they’re not particularly religious, but Zac describes a very emotional response to the image. “When I seen it, it almost brought tears to my eyes… I was speechless, I just couldn’t believe it, I really didn’t believe what I was seeing.” This from a couple who describe themselves as not being particularly religious. From people reporting that they’ve seen Jesus’ image appear “miraculously” on toast to pointing out that they see  Jesus take shape around their dog’s butthole  … (Yes, really) … it’s very common for people to spot what they’ll describe as an image of Jesus’ face on everyday items. We’ll get into the psychology behind that in a moment, but we should acknowledge that it’s fairly widespread. But many regard such appearances as novelty items. (Though often devout Christians are irritated by what they see as frivolous claims of “miracles” that they feel embarrass their religious community) For Alicia and Zac, however, this was a positive omen. Zac describes his interpretation: “The angel or God or Jesus, however you want to propose it, I look at it as my blessing.” Alicia and Zac had two very difficult pregnancies, with their first child being born with a series of complications and their second chidlbirth nearly claiming Alicia’s life. Briella, who was born healthy, is their third child. We’re not going to tell anyone what to believe, of course. The thing is that human beings are psychologically wired to pick out hidden faces. This makes a lot of sense for the survival of our species — to recognize each other, but also to spot ambushes or other threats. The same thing applies to recognizing familiar iconography. Some images are so omnipresent in our culture that, regardless of someone’s beliefs,  You can grow up non-religious in a non-religious household and still have angels and Jesus and everything firmly embedded in your psyche, because Christianity has dominated Western culture for a full millennium. But Christians who believe that these apparitions — even the seemingly irreverent ones — are genuine omens would point out that just because the human mind constantly searches for “faces” doesn’t mean that a genuine face couldn’t show up. That’s fair. As for Alicia and Zac, we’re just glad that they found it comforting at the end of a very tense pregnancy.

Jamie Otis: I Love My Post-Baby Bod!

Way earlier this year, we told you that Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner were expecting again . The Married at First Sight couple, after everything that they’d endured, deserved to welcome some happiness into their lives. Well, Jamie Otis gave birth — and just three days later, she’s showing off her post-baby body! Married at First Sight might be a borderline-horrifying premise for a reality series, but at least its helped the world to get to know some wonderful couples. Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner deserve to be happy. We’ll talk about why this happy, healthy childbirth last week was such a huge step over their past sadness. But first, take a look at Jamie’s post-baby body. She looks so happy! She shared this photo on Friday. That’s just three days after she gave birth, folks. Considering that, just days earlier, she’d looked like a particularly large watermelon was hiding beneath her skin in the hopes of going unnoticed as summer wanes, this is a huge difference. Jamie’s captions really express her happiness. “Outfit of the day … I share all the details in my insta story! Lol no but seriously, I love every bit of my postpartum bod.” We love that she started off with a joke about how so many celebs plug their clothes in otherwise personal posts. Also, we love that she’s loving her body. “It’s truly amazing how my body helped create & carry an 8 lb 2 oz baby …. I’m feelin’ like I can conquer the WORLD after pushing her out.” 8 pounds is no laughing matter, folks. It’s no wonder that she feels so unstoppable. (We cannot imagine the agony of childbirth and we never, ever want to) “Women are SO much stronger than we give ourselves credit for.” Remember, this was her baby bump: Previously,  Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner suffered a tragic miscarriage , just four months into an earlier pregnancy. We know that most women unknowingly miscarry several times during their lives, but actual miscarriages — after a couple knows that they’re pregnant, and after they’ve announced their pregnancy to the world — are absolutely devastating. Some couples end up mourning for their entire lives. Jamie and Doug honored their stillborn child  earlier this summer, on the one year anniversary of his death. The couple, who were of course already pregnant at that point, planted a memorial tree in his honor. That is a beautiful (and environmentally friendly) way of honoring his memory, getting a little closure on their grief, and putting up a lasting tribute that can stand the test of time. Seriously, we’re glad that their chidlbirth was successful. A lot of reality couples don’t work out — and, again, these two are from Married at First Sight , so they really beat the odds. A lot of regular ol’ couples split up after a miscarriage. That kind of grief can change people, and it can make partners grow apart as they begin to remind each other of their shared pain. Clearly, Jamie and Doug found a way to grieve together instead of letting one tragedy tear them apart. And now they have a new baby, Henley Grace Hehner! Jamie Otis: See Her Amazing Response to Her Body Shamer!

Jamie Otis, star of Married at First Sight and generally lovely human being, has been having some issues on social media lately. You’ll never believe this, but she’s actually been having to deal with mean, hateful strangers on the internet . She’s been dealing with one awful person in particular — a woman who decided to body shame her over the way her breasts looked in a Facebook Live video. In the video, Jamie was reviewing one of those subscription boxes, and she was also wearing a somewhat revealing shirt. How dare she, right? Here’s the most scandalous shot from the video, one where she was hunched over a bit: Upon seeing the video, some woman thought it was appropriate to leave a comment that read “I’m just trying to figure out what’s lopsided — her boobs, her bra or her shirt … Woman, have some respect for yourself.” OK, for one, mind your business. For two, it’s totally normal for women to have breasts that are two different sizes. And for three, Jamie is pregnant . Pregnancy boobs have minds of their own, and Jamie should not be criticized for that. Unfortunately, Jamie saw the comment. And it really, really bothered her. Enough that she wrote a blog post about it. In the post, she wrote that she’d been away for a long weekend during which she hadn’t checked her social media, so when she got back home, she was looking forward to seeing comments and messages from her friends and “frans.” “Frans” is what she calls fans that have become friends — Jamie Otis is too cute for this world. So she was excited to check out her Facebook, but then she saw that inappropriate, rude comment. And that happiness just went right out the window. “Instantly I felt my smile fade,” she wrote. “My mood went bleak. I immediately looked down to my chest to see if my boobs are really that noticeably ‘lopsided’ …?!” “Then I re-watched my video to see if my breasts looked completely abnormal? I wasn’t thinking of my breasts or even paying attention to them when I was chatting with all of my friends and frans live on Facebook.” She said that she’s a bit hormonal, being 18 weeks pregnant, and that she’s “a bit sensitive, too” because she’s been bullied before. “I used to be so insecure,” she explained, “that I would just keep quiet and not say anything. As a matter of fact, I would do ANYTHING to get the person who was bullying and shaming me to begin to like me.” Jamie ended up sending a private message to the woman who body shamed her, and she shared that in the post too — turns out her boobs actually are significantly different sizes because she had a lump removed from one when she was younger. She spilled her heart out to this woman, she kindly asked her to stop leaving such superficial, harmful messages, and you know what the woman did? She replied with “Modesty is an option. I don’t give a damn what size your breasts are. You’re broadcasting a video that you know lots of people are going to see. And all I can see is your boobs about to jiggle out of your shirt.” Some people are just awful . This woman is just awful. Jamie wrote that though this response left her speechless, “My goal in sharing this experience is that any woman who stumbles across this post will just think about their comments before they post them.” “Maybe we as women could go out of our way to build each other up instead of tear each other down.” What a woman, right? Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis Lose Baby to Miscarriage

Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis have tragically lost their baby, five months before he or she was scheduled to enter the world. In an emotional Instagram message, Otis broke the news to followers of the couple, who met on the reality show Married at First Sight. “Our Baby Hehner was just too beautiful for earth,” she rote. “I love him so much – ALWAYS will – and can’t wait to meet him in heaven one day. Please pray for us.” Alongside this tragic confirmation, Otis shared a message that read as follows: “An angel opened up the book of life and wrote down my baby’s birth. Then she whispered as she closed the book, ‘He’s too beautiful for earth.'” Here’s a look at that message as she posted it: Otis was due to give birth in December. It would have been the first child for both her Hehner. The reality star announced they were expecting, via an interview with People Magazine, just last week. “Jamie is the strongest woman I know,” a close friend tells the publication in light of this news, adding: “And Doug has remained her rock through everything. Their love will get them through this.” Otis and Hehner met for the first time on their wedding day, per the rules of the aforementioned reality series. Their unconventional relationship has since been chronicled on their spin-off program, Married at First Sight: The First Year. They seemed legitimately in love, despite of the unusual way in which their marriage began. “We certainly worked on the relationship, and I think when you’re in the trenches and you make it out together, you become stronger as a couple,” Hehner recently said on the Today show. Well said. We send them our best wishes and condolences during this difficult period.
