Jonathan Goldstein on Co-Writing Horrible Bosses, Lawyer Roots, and What’s on the Cutting-Room Floor

Jonathan Goldstein is the more experienced half of the Horrible Bosses writing partnership. His partner (and this week’s Verge designee ) John Francis Daley is a Freaks and Geeks alum with a new career in penning comedies, but Goldstein has a varied history in TV writing on The PJs , The New Adventures of Old Christine , and $#*! My Dad Says . He met Daley when he worked as a writer on The Geena Davis Show , a show on which Daley costarred. We talked to the veteran about his box office success with Horrible Bosses , making a transition to a film career, and getting anxious when actors want to improvise.

Jennifer Aniston Couldn’t Say No To ‘Horrible Bosses’

‘This stuff never comes my way,’ she tells MTV News of foul-mouthed dentist. By Kara Warner, with additional reporting by Eric Ditzian Jennifer Aniston Photo: MTV News In looking at the cast of “Horrible Bosses,” it makes sense that funnymen like Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jason Bateman would be attached to a film that revolves around three guys trying to kill their three very horrible bosses. Even supporting players Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx are folks who don’t surprise us in taking on the raunchier territory that comes with an R rating. One castmember’s name that did raise an eyebrow, however, is Jennifer Aniston, known throughout celeb-dom to be one of America’s favorite TV and cinema sweethearts. In “Horrible Bosses,” Aniston is anything but sweet. She plays Julia, a somewhat demented dentist who takes the definition of sexual harassment to whole new levels in her torture of employee Dale (played by Charlie Day). When MTV News caught up with the unexpected scene-stealer recently, we asked her how she decided to take on the foul-mouthed, sexually explicit role. “It wasn’t a ‘might.’ There was never the word ‘might’ [involved in deciding to take the part],” Aniston said. “It was pretty much, ‘How fast can I say yes? I will play this part.’ “I’d never seen anything like this woman, and I couldn’t imagine not doing it,” Aniston explained, adding that she was happy to be approached for a role that is so different from those she is normally offered. “This stuff never comes my way,” she said. Director Seth Gordon said he had Aniston in mind for the role from the get-go, largely because he knew of her comedic chops and wanted to see her play something unlike her iconic “Friends” character, Rachel Green. “I imagined her in that role the first time I read the script, and I can’t explain why, but I just did,” he said. “Obviously, I knew she was a great comedian, and I feel like I’ve always seen that she can do more than she’s offered to do. A lot of stuff seems like a rehashing of Rachel in some way.” When pressed to pick a favorite Aniston moment in the film, Gordon admitted that her first scene takes the cake because it’s the first time you hear her get really raunchy. Without getting too explicit, in the scene, Aniston describes pleasuring herself to “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley. “Everyone’s jaws hit the floor,” he recalled. “You can imagine what it is like for her to say that, but when you first hear it, you are stunned. We just cackled. I definitely screwed up some takes when she was on set, because I would just burst out laughing and I couldn’t help it. She’s so funny.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Horrible Bosses.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Dom Kennedy Embraced By NYC Crowd, Despite L.A. Roots

‘ From the Westside, With Love II just came out last week, so it was shocking to me to see people that knew those songs,’ MC marvels after packed show. By Steven Roberts Dom Kennedy Photo: MTV News New Yorkers are a notoriously tough crowd — ask the Knicks or Yankees. Or try suggesting your favorite pizza spot, because you’re already wrong. The city is also full of staunch music critics, from The New York Times to the Apollo Theatre’s Sandman. Hip-hop acts have a notoriously tough time getting the crowd to put their hands in the air. West Coast MC Dom Kennedy didn’t seem to have much trouble Tuesday evening, however. Kennedy headlined a packed house — more like sauna — at SOB’s in Lower Manhattan. And to many people’s surprise, Leimert Park’s very own had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Even Kennedy looked pleasantly surprised at the start of his set as the audience repeated every word to songs old and new. He said the show was a bit of a celebration for the hard work he’s put in over the past few years. “I realize that these are people that were probably listening to my music every day or every other day since these projects have come out,” Kennedy told MTV News. ” From the Westside, With Love II just came out last week, so it was shocking to me to see people that knew those songs. But the other ones, it was our time to get together and have a good time.” Kennedy said he knew he had a following in New York based on the reception he received at the listening party for his Original Dom Kennedy mixtape earlier this year, but the moment he got to the show and saw he couldn’t make his way from the green room to see any of the opening acts, he knew it would be a special night. Kennedy’s From the Westside, With Love II dropped via iTunes last week, making it his first retail release. It’s the follow-up to his From the Westside, With Love, a project Kennedy felt was really good — most critics felt the same, but he thought it wasn’t complete. He wanted Part II to show his growth. He also wanted it to show that Tuesday evening’s overwhelming reception wasn’t a fluke. “I built my projects to be the best,” Kennedy said. “Whether it’s a free project, whether my first project just came out on iTunes for $6.99, I built those projects to compete with Lil Wayne CDs, with everybody’s album. Whoever people consider the top album, whether it be selling or music-wise, I want the Dom Kennedy album to stand next to those.” What do you think of Dom’s latest mixtape? ‘Horrible Bosses’ Stars Talk ‘Swapping Spit’ With Jennifer Aniston

Aniston welcomed her co-stars ‘with an open lab coat,’ Jason Sudeikis tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis in “Horrible Bosses” Photo: Warner Bros If you haven’t heard anything about the upcoming comedy “Horrible Bosses,” there are really only two things to know about the film in order to understand its appeal: It’s rated R and stars Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston, plus several other excellent supporting roles and cameos to look out for. The movie revolves around three friends (Sudeikis, Bateman and Day) who are so fed up with their bosses (Farrell, Spacey and Aniston) that they decide to kill them. As you can see from the cast list, the guy/girl ratio is a bit skewed, so when MTV News caught up with the leading men, we asked how Aniston fit into the mix of things. Naturally, the boys took a seemingly innocent inquiry into highly inappropriate territory. “You don’t welcome her; she welcomes you,” said Day, whose character Dale is the victim of some serious sexual harassment at the hands of Aniston’s character Julia. “She’s the heavy in the room.” “Jason and I, unfortunately, we did not get to swap talent spit, as it were,” Bateman pointed out, before the three funnymen digressed into an off-topic back-and-forth about what “swapping talent spit” means and where the phrase originated. “Errol Flynn used to say that,” Sudeikis said of the legendary actor known for his onscreen swashbuckling and offscreen debauchery. “It started in the Poconos, actually,” Bateman jokingly corrected. “Flynn used to spit all over people,” Day added. “It wasn’t swapping so much as receiving.” “Charlie did all the talent with Jennifer,” Bateman said, attempting to get the group back on topic. Day revealed that Aniston did, indeed, welcome him into their scene work. “With an open lab coat,” Sudeikis added, alluding to one of the many scenes in which Day’s character finds himself in an uncomfortable scenario with Aniston’s. “And an open labia,” Bateman chimed in, which drew groans from his co-stars. “I’m not touchin’ that,” Day said. “It’s spelled the same!” Bateman said in mock protest. “This is MTV!” Sudeikis exclaimed, hinting that Bateman’s comment was over the line, even for us. “The network that brought us ‘Skins’!” Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘Horrible Bosses’ ‘Horrible Bosses’ Clips

How Jason Sudeikis Mastered Movie Wanking

“Here’s a little movie-magic fun fact for you. I did all my research for that scene by going on Chatroulette, that website where guys masturbate for strangers. My moves in Hall Pass are an amalgamation of, I don’t know, maybe 20,000 different dudes. I took the facial expressions from SexHog22; I took the hand motions from GrizzlyBearDong. Those guys really know what they’re doing.” [ Playboy ]

‘Teen Wolf’ Stars Promise ‘Blood, Shirtless Men And Mystery’

‘Get ready for the gnarliest show you can feast your eyes on,’ Tyler Posey says of show’s post-Movie Awards premiere. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Chris Kim Tyler Posey as Scott McCall in “Teen Wolf” Photo: MTV For fans of all things supernatural, Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards were made for you. Thanks to exclusives from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” and the big premiere of the new MTV series “Teen Wolf” right after the show, it’s all about sexy creatures of the night. So why should you check out the latest incarnation of “Teen Wolf”? Well, the stars gave MTV News some really convincing reasons. For one, Tyler Hoechlin said, “There’s a lot of mystery.” Crystal Reed added, “Two, there’s a lot of shirtless men,” and Tyler Posey added, “There’s a lot of blood, and that’s all you need in life: blood, shirtless men and mystery. Get ready for the gnarliest show you can feast your eyes on. It’s just going to be a really cool show.” With a werewolf and a pretty girl at the center of the romance of the show, it’s easy to make comparisons to “Twilight.” Posey happens to play a teen wolf on “Teen Wolf” just like Taylor Lautner, but he explained the big difference between his show’s wolves and, you know, those other ones. “We’re not the only werewolves here at the MTV Movie Awards. The kids from ‘Twilight’ also have a couple werewolves of their own, but do they match up to us?” he asked. “My argument [is], we will win in a fight because we have opposable thumbs and we can jab their eyes out, and what’s cooler than jabbing another werewolves’ eyes out?” Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Movie Awards Tip To Celebs: Pass (And Drop) The Golden Popcorn!

‘Let it slip. It’s no problem!’ laughs Suz-Anna Dela Rosa, in search of good post-show gossip. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Jim Cantiello Photo: MTV News If there’s one request Suz-Anna Dela Rosa, the woman in charge of handling the Movies Awards’ Golden Popcorn trophies, has for celebs as they prepare for Sunday’s big show, it’s please, please drop the Popcorn. It all started back in 2009, when Kristen Stewart dropped the Golden Popcorn statue she’d just received for Best Female Performance in “Twilight.” The starlet was awkward (and adorable) about the misstep, and the moment is now part of MTV Movie Awards history. Fast-forward to 2010: no dropped awards. Apparently last year’s celebs didn’t want to repeat KStew’s stumble, so they came prepared — with steady hands and good balance. And, of course, that was a good thing, except that it meant Dela Rosa didn’t have too many juicy celeb anecdotes for us when we asked her to dish some dirt after the show. Stewart’s slip in ’09 had gotten us a cute story about how the “Breaking Dawn” star asked Movie Awards staff for her broken Popcorn only to find out they had already tossed it. But last year? “Nothing, not a thing,” Dela Rosa said. “Celebrities, please help us out. Give us a story.” She even suggested that stars give the audience a little fake-out, a tease. “Drop it. Let it slip. It’s no problem!” she joked. With Jim Carrey set to present at the Movie Awards and Jason Sudeikis as the show’s host, she may get her wish. MTV Movie Awards Gift Bag: Something Just For Robert Pattinson!

Jim Cantiello leads you through the year’s swanky swag before Sunday’s show. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Jim Cantiello 2011 MTV Movie Awards gift bag Photo: Sohyung Kang/ MTV News One of the benefits of being behind the scenes in the midst of the madness leading up to the MTV Movie Awards is our fly-on-the-wall vantage point, and we’ve been getting all kinds of insider glimpses into the prep work that goes into the show, including red carpets rolling out, sets being built and lights getting adjusted. On Thursday (June 2), in addition to chatting with host Jason Sudeikis and the finalists of “America’s Best Dance Crew” ahead of Sunday’s big finale, we sent our intrepid reporter Jim Cantiello into the swanky world of swag, where he got a sneak peek at the goodies that make up this year’s official MTV Movie Awards gift bag. One of Jim’s favorite things, i.e. items that were sparkly and/or eye-catching enough for him to pick up, included Murad’s bronzer, which he suggested would be a great get for Robert Pattinson and any of the other “Twilight” castmembers who play pale-skinned vampires. Speaking of “Twilight,” Pro Beauty Tools is gifting celebrities with a bunch of their professional hair-styling tools, the standout being the styling brush used on the set of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.” There are too many goodies to name, but a few of the other highlights include a $50 Starbucks card, Ralph Lauren Fragrances’ Big Pony Collection scents for men and the Romance and Summer Romance for women, a Kobo e-reader loaded with 100 books, a Casio TRYX camera and a two-night stay and specially designed bag from Andaz 5th Avenue. How does this year’s goodie bag compare to past years? Last year’s gifts included season-one DVDs of MTV’s hit “Jersey Shore” and fashion PR maven Kelly Cutrone’s book “If You Have to Cry, Go Outside.” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ?
