Gabel reveals plans to Rolling Stone to take the name Laura Jane Grace after undergoing gender transition. By Katie Byrne Tom Gabel of Against Me! Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Against Me! singer Tom Gabel has come out as transgender and discussed plans to begin living as a woman in the next issue of Rolling Stone. Gabel, who will go by Laura Jane Grace and remain married to wife Heather, will undergo electrolysis treatments and take hormones to make the transition from male to female. “For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news,” Gabel told Rolling Stone of Heather. “But she’s been super-amazing and understanding.” Gabel has dealt with gender dysphoria for years and decided it was a good time to speak up about the private struggle, telling only a few family members and friends about the upcoming transition before talking with the magazine. “I’m going to have embarrassing moments, and that won’t be fun,” Gabel said of coming out. “But that’s part of what talking to you is about — is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.” Though Gabel is the first major rock star to undergo a gender transformation, she’s hardly the first celebrity. Larry Wachowski, half of the Wachowski-brother directing duo behind the “Matrix” trilogy, has been credited as Lana Wachowki in recent work and seems to now identify as a woman, though neither sibling has spoken publicly on the subject. Chaz Bono, meanwhile, made a very public run on “Dancing With the Stars” as the first transgender contestant . Chaz, born the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, underwent female-to-male gender transition between 2008 and 2010. In the next issue of Rolling Stone, due Friday, Gabel will tell her full story, including what the revelation means for the future of Against Me! Related Artists Against Me!

Justin Bieber, Flo Rida, Lady Antebellum and Hall & Oates also perform leading up to Team Blake’s victory. By James Dinh Blake Shelton and Jermaine Paul celebrate on “The Voice” Photo: NBC Universal Records added a new artist to their roster Tuesday night (May 8) when Jermaine Paul of Team Blake was named season-two champ during the finale of “The Voice,” which also featured some major star power appearances from the likes of Justin Bieber and Flo Rida. “I just wanted to say thank you for everyone that voted for me,” the former Alicia Keys backup singer said on the sparkler-filled stage, before giving credit to his wife, children and parents. “God bless y’all, man. Nobody but Jesus, man, nobody!” It was a close call, as host Carson Daly revealed just moments before the announcement that only a mere 4 percentage points separated Paul and runner-up Juliet Simms. Kicking off the two-hour episode was a brief contestant introduction with Paul, Simms, singer/songwriter Tony Lucca and classically trained Chris Mann, before segueing into a recap of the previous night’s live final round and some thoughts from each of the judges about their contestant. But it wouldn’t be a big ol’ finale without some collaborative performances from our season’s favorite former contestants, so Paul rallied up Jamar Rogers, James Massone and Pip to lead the pack on a cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.” It was a solid effort that most importantly proved why Paul stands as the last remaining singer of the bunch and won the contest. After a montage of silly bloopers from the panel (proving that Xtina is surely more than just full of sass) and a quick commercial break, Simms of Team Cee Lo joined Flo Rida for a medley of his singles “Whistle” and “Wild One.” Missing in action was singer Sia, but Simms took over for the Australian crooner’s chorus, temporarily walked away from her rock element and jumped to some fist-pumping Top 40. Team Xtina’s Chris Mann brought back his lady favorites Lindsey Pavao and Katrina Parker for an appropriate cover of the Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony,” and the couple complemented Mann’s lively onstage urgency. It may have been an intense evening for the contestants, but “The Voice” kept the show lighthearted by dedicating an entire segment to Shelton and Levine’s on-camera bromance with highlights of their cutesy interactions. “It is clear that Adam has a crush on me, and Miranda is a little bit jealous, but I think it’s cute,” Shelton joked about wife Miranda Lambert. Hall & Oates were up next to sing their classic “Rich Girl” alongside the men of the evening: Tony, Jermaine and Chris. As the duo jammed out to their 1977 hit, the trio of finalists crooned on the side as background vocalists to the iconic act. Living out one more performance were former contestants Naia Kete, Cheesa, Kim Yarbrough and Sera Hill with a performance of “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. Full of energy, attitude and smiles, the quartet blended their distinctive voices for a great number. But it wasn’t enough to outshine Juliet Simms’ group performance alongside Erin Willett, RaeLynn and Jamar Rogers for a cover of the Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends.” It was the best of the all-star performances and brought all the judges to their feet for standing ovations. NBC doubled up when they brought some buzz for the season finale of “Parks and Recreation” as Cee Lo took to the set of the comedy sitcom and had the cast cater to his guest appearance and, of course, the famed swivel chair. Lady Antebellum repped for country music when they appeared for a performance of “Wanted You More,” but the biggest rumble of cheers went to Justin Bieber, who served up a flashy debut performance of his hit “Boyfriend.” As teased a few weeks ago, the teen superstar took the stage for an elaborate production of his lead single. Entering through the floor, the pop singer walked down an alley of bright lights and spent much of the number as the center of attention for a crew of dancers with misty smoke seeping in between his choreography. Before the Biebster took center stage, Team Adam’s Tony Lucca re-emerged for his main number of the night with Jordis Unga to sing Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” It was a friendly throwback to the competition’s battle rounds, as the two played off each other’s lines and catered to different parts of the stage before joining together for an ending hug. Tony Lucca and Chris Mann also advance to the final four, while Lindsay Pavao, Katrina Parker, Erin Willett and Jamar Rogers exit. By John Mitchell Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Pavao Photo: NBC The results are in, and the four “Voice” contestants moving on to the finals have been decided. Each artist was assigned two scores, both out of 100, following their performances on Monday night’s show . The first came from their respective judge, while America’s vote determined the other. The contestant from each team with the highest overall score advanced to the finals. With no last-chance performances or saves left in the game, the night’s singing came from last year’s top four: Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez, Beverly McClellan and winner Javier Colon. Frampton, who repped Team Blake last year, was first to the stage, performing her new single “Don’t Kick the Chair” with Kid Cudi. If anything, the fact that Frampton remains a viable enough recording artist to be performing the lead single from her upcoming record with a major artist like Cudi is a testament to the fact that whether they advance or not, these folks will be just fine. After Frampton’s performance came the night’s first elimination. Aguilera evenly split her 100 points between her two contestants, Chris Mann and Lindsay Pavao, saying the two were so different and performed so strongly that she felt it right to let America decide who should advance. America’s vote was close, but ultimately it was Mann who prevailed, earning a total score of 104 to Pavao’s 96, meaning America’s vote went 54 to 46 in Mann’s favor. Season-one finalist Vicci Martinez performed her new single, “Come Along,” and she got a little hlp from mentor Cee Lo. Next up was Adam, who awarded Tony Lucca 60 points to Katrina Parker’s 40, saying that while Parker is easily the contest’s most improved contestant, he felt that, going into the finals, his connection with Lucca would better serve the rocker on his way to a potential victory. America, it seems, felt the same. Lucca prevailed with an overall score of 108. Parker did snag an impressive 48 points from America’s vote, though her total score of 92 fell short. Team Christina’s season one contestant, rocker Beverly McClellan, hit the stage next to perform “Money Changes Everything” with ’80s pop icon Cyndi Lauper. McClellan, like Frampton, has a new album, Fear Nothing, on the way, reaffirming the sentiment Adam shared with his own team when they were on the chopping block: that all the contestants should take the exposure they’ve gained being on such a popular platform and use it as a launching pad, as both Frampton and McClellan (regardless of the fact that they lost) clearly have. After last year’s winner, Team Adam’s Javier Colon, wowed the crowd with his new single “Drop in the Ocean,” Team Blake hit the ring to find out who would stay and who would go. Like Christina, Blake evenly divided his 100 points between Erin Willett and Jermaine Paul, saying he didn’t want to be part of the decision-making process anymore. (At least he was honest.) However, America went big for Jermaine, giving the former Alicia Keys backup singer a whopping 77 points for a 123 total. By comparison, Willett totaled only 77. The night’s biggest surprise came when Team Cee Lo stepped forward for elimination. Cee Lo chose to go the Adam route, splitting his points 60/40 between rocker Juliet Simms (60), whose performance of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” earned the most praise of the night from the panel, and Jamar Rogers (40). With his compelling backstory and high-energy performances, Rogers has been a front-runner throughout the competition, but America clearly felt the same as the judges regarding Juliet. She snagged another 61 points from the public vote for a 121 total, besting Rogers’ combined 79. Moving on

Plus: Ashley De La Rosa and RaeLynn are voted off the competition. By James Dinh Justin Bieber on “The Voice” Photo: NBC If you tuned into Tuesday night’s (April 17) episode of “The Voice,” then you caught a roller-coaster episode, with Justin Bieber teasing his “Boyfriend” video and announcing that his new album, Believe, will hit stores June 19 and two more competitors biting the dust. Rocking a simple jacket, jeans and gold pendent, a charismatic Bieber was welcomed to the “Voice” stage with overwhelming applause. “I’m really happy to be here, and I think you guys are going to really love the video,” he told host Carson Daly of the “Boyfriend” sneak peek. In the clip, Bieber is seen whispering the slick tune to a girl as shots of an icy realm flash. With a guitar in hand, the singer strikes a pose before a gleaming white sphere. Beliebers will see the first live performance of the track when he hits the “Voice” stage during the season finale. Bieber also took time to jokingly chat with judge Adam Levine about a “supergroup” the two were planning, telling Daly, “Basically, we were going to do this supergroup, but he released his single, I released my single,” to which Adam replied, “I’m sorry I quit, man.” Beyond the Biebs’ announcement, the NBC series also had some unfortunate news to share, revealing the two contestants who were given the boot from the singing competition. Following the previous night’s “instant eliminations,” Daly explained that the highest vote-getters would advance to the semifinals, with the remaining set of duos battling it out for their judge’s save. And it was nothing but a relief for Chris Mann (Team Christina) and Jermaine Paul (Team Blake) when they were revealed as the highest voted of the week. Shortly after the commercial break, Team Christina’s Ashley De La Rosa and Lindsey Pavao went head-to-head, causing Miss Aguilera to shed some tears. While De La Rosa took on Lady Gaga’s “Yo

The Voice cut four out of these 12 hopefuls last night in its ever-confusing elimination process, but its first-ever live results show was lightning quick and first-rate. Three members out of six each from Team Blake and Team Christina were voted through to the next round by America. Who were the lucky contestants? Team Blake: Erin Willett, Jermaine Paul, and RaeLynn. Team Christina: Jesse Campbell, Lindsey Pavao, and Chris Mann. But wait, there’s one more spot up for grabs on each squad, and the singers had to do their thing again to vie for it! So who moved on and who’s done? From Team Blake, Naia Kete sang “If I Were a Boy,” Charlotte Sometimes then turned in a rendition of “Iris,” and Jordis Unga finished with “Wild Horses.”

Miranda Lambert wondered if ‘Two and a Half Men’ star was ‘making fun of country’ with his 10-gallon hat and George Strait sing-along. By Kara Warner Ashton Kutcher presents at the 47th annual Academy Of Country Music Awards Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images Ashton Kutcher’s attempt to be part of the country-music crowd at the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday apparently did not go over as well as planned. The “Two and a Half Men” star was on hand to present the award for Female Vocalist of the Year, and he dressed for the occasion by wearing a black 10-gallon hat and country-western-themed duds. Before handing over the silver trophy to Miranda Lambert , Kutcher jokingly attempted to sing a few notes of George Strait’s classic “I Cross My Heart,” which has been met with criticism. Lambert tweeted late Monday that, upon further reflection, Kutcher’s joke might have been inappropriate. “Was Ashton Kutcher making fun of country or is it just me?” she tweeted . “Watching it back now and I’m kinda wondering?” Ashton himself took to Twitter on Tuesday (April 3) to clear the air with the country star. “@Miranda_Lambert I Am One Of The biggest country Music fans you’ve ever met,” he wrote. “Wasn’t making fun at all.” Country singer Justin Moore also wasn’t pleased with Kutcher’s outfit. “Seen Ashton kutcher at the acms tonight. What a douche!” Moore tweeted . “I don’t care for people making a mockery of the way country artists’ dress.” Us Weekly reported that Kutcher’s shtick did not impress members in the audience either. “People were just like ‘why is he here?’ He has nothing to do with country,” one attendee told the mag. “Nobody laughed at his dumb jokes, in fact he came off as rude. He didn’t mingle.” Whose side are you on? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Miranda Lambert

Team Blake’s Charlotte Sometimes and Naia Kete and Team Christina’s Sera Hill and Moses Stone are all eliminated after first live show. By John Mitchell Sera Hill, Christina Aguilera and Moses Stone on “The Voice” Photo: NBC On Monday night, the 12 members of Teams Christina and Blake took the stage for the first “Voice” live show of the season, and on Tuesday night (April 3), four contestants were sent packing after being voted off by the public and not saved by their team coach. The public’s top three vote-getters were announced in no particular order following a performance by Gym Class Heroes that featured Team Adam, which will hit the ring with Team Cee Lo next week for its first shot on the live stage. The bottom three on each team were given one last shot at moving forward to the live quarter finals; they could earn their coach’s lone “save” if they beat their other two teammates in a sing-off. First, though, both coaches took their teams on insider-y trips to a country radio station (Blake) and “The Tonight Show” (Christina) so they could get a feel for what it’s really like to promote themselves in the music industry. Proving that they are actually invested in their teams (one of the many virtues “The Voice” has over its reality singing-competition rivals), Shelton and Aguilera both offered their teams a nice foot in the door: Blake announced that he was putting together an acoustic concert for his team, while Team Christina got them face time with Leno before letting them hit the stage at the “Tonight Show” to perform as a team. But then it was right down to business. From Team Blake, host Carson Daly announced that belter Erin Willett, former Alicia Keys backup singer/dancer Jermaine Paul and teenage country singer RaeLynn attracted the most votes, leaving Charlotte Sometimes, Jordis Unga and Naia Kete on the chopping block. All three delivered solid-if-unspectacular performances. Street performer Naia whisper-sang her way through Beyonc
