Joan Rivers’ Most Memorable Moments: 9 Times the Insult Queen Made Us Laugh and Cringe at the Same Time

Earlier today, Joan Rivers passed away after complications from a surgical procedure caused her to be placed in a medically-induced coma last week. In a way, it was fitting that we learned of Joan’s condition the same day that we found out Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got married . Joan spent much of her career deflating the egos of A-list stars, and she likely would’ve gotten kick out of the fact that her last act involved upstaging the world’s most famous couple. Sadly, we’ll never get to hear Joan’s biting takedown of Angie’s wedding dress. 9 Hilarious Joan Rivers Moments 1. Joan Hosts the Tonight Show Joan was a frequent guest and fill-in host on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. She and Carson never spoke again after she launched a rival late night show. The loss of her talent will leave a void in the comedy world that won’t be easy to fill, as even at the age of 81, Rivers frequently made headlines for her often controversial – and always witty – insights on celebrities, fashion, and world events. It’s hard to pin down the funniest and most shocking moments from her more than five decades in the spotlight, but we’ve compiled some of her most indispensable feuds, one-liners, and wisecracks in the gallery above. Though in the past year Joan may have been best known for her feud with Kim Kardashian and her  comments on the Israel-Gaza conflict , for many she’ll be remembered as a trailblazer in the world of entertainment – breaking new ground and influencing female comics from Roseanne to Sarah Silverman. While the mention of the name Joan Rivers might always bring to mind scathing, impeccably-timed insults, those who knew her best say that she embodied bravery and compassion and was always quick with a kind word. Rest in peace, Joan.

Zelda Williams, Robin Williams’ Daughter, Quits Social Media After Trolls Ridicule Dad

Robin Williams, who passed away earlier this week, touched millions of people in a legendary career that often reminded us how wonderful a person can be. Now, in a reminder of how terrible people can be, his grieving daughter Zelda Williams says she’s quitting social media after being besieged by Internet trolls. While countless fans have taken to the Internet to express their love and respect for Williams, many others sent horrific comments and pictures to Zelda. The second-oldest of Robin Williams’ children , Zelda initially took the fight to the trolls, asking supporters to report them to social media administrators. Soon enough, realizing how fruitless this is, she decided it was better for her to delete her accounts, after posting a farewell apology and message: “I’m sorry. I should’ve risen above,” Williams Tweeted. “Deleting this from my devices for a good long time, maybe forever. Time will tell. Goodbye.” The mourning 25-year-old also suspended her Instagram, writing: “I will be leaving this account for a bit while I heal and decide if I’ll be deleting it or not. In this difficult time, please try to be respectful of the accounts of myself, my family and my friends.” Zelda defended herself for not sharing more photos of her dad – a ridiculous thing people harassed her about – as well as their relationship in general: 21 Memorable Robin Williams Quotes 1. That You May Contribute a Verse What will YOUR verse be? “Mining our accounts for photos of dad, or judging me on the number of them is cruel and unnecessary,” she added, in response to online criticism. “There are a couple throughout, but the real private moments I shared with him were precious, quiet, and believe it or not, not full of photos or ‘selfies.'” “I shared him with a world where everyone was taking their photo with him, but I was lucky enough to spend time with him without cameras too.” “That was more than enough, and I’m grateful for what little time I had. My favorite family photos are framed in my house, not posted on social media.” “They’ll remain there. They would’ve wound up on the news or blogs then, and certainly would now. That’s not what I want for our memories together.” “Thank you for your respect and understanding in this difficult time. Goodbye. Xo” Zelda and her half-brothers Zak, 31, and Cody, 22, Robin’s children from his previous marriages, continue to grieve along with his widow, Susan Schneider . R.I.P. In Funny White Folks News: NBC Announces Jimmy Fallon To Take Over ‘The Tonight Show’ From Jay Leno In Spring 2014

Congrats Jimmy ! Jimmy Fallon To Replace Jay Leno Via HuffPo reports: NBC has officially announced that Jimmy Fallon will take over “The Tonight Show” in 2014, and Jay Leno will end his run as the host of the show. Bill Carter of The New York Times reports that Fallon, currently the host of “Late Night,” will begin hosting the show in February. Fallon has hosted “Late Night” since 2009, and along with his house band The Roots, has developed a variety show that blends music, celebrity impressions and an enthusiastic approach to the talk show format to make it one of the most unique late night programs on the air. Lorne Michaels executive produces Fallon’s current show, and will produce “The Tonight Show” in addition to his “Saturday Night Live” duties. The news follows months of rumors that Fallon would take over the show when Leno’s contract expires next year. The show will be taped at 30 Rock in New York, the first time the show has been taped there since Johnny Carson left in 1972. In a statement, departing host Leno said, “Congratulations Jimmy. I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy. If you need me, I’ll be at the garage.” NBC has attempted a “Tonight Show” host transition once before. In 2004, they announced that Conan O’Brien, then the host of “Late Night,” would take over “The Tonight Show” in 2009. By the time the transition occurred, Leno was still on top of the ratings, and NBC gave Leno a primetime show to prevent him from going to another network. However, faltering ratings of both programs led to NBC installing Leno as the host once again. The network did not mention O’Brien’s stint as the “Tonight Show” host in its press release about the Fallon transition, instead claiming that Leno has hosted “The Tonight Show” since 1992. Leno told the Times that he felt better about this transition. “The main difference between this and the other time is I’m part of the process. The last time the decision was made without me. I came into work one day and — you’re out.” This transition was largely initiated by the threat posed by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, which moved from midnight to 11:35 earlier this year. Although Leno’s program continues to be number one in both overall ratings and the 18-49 demographic, Kimmel’s show has proven to be competitive. And in the Fall of 2014, Jay Leno will take back the Tonight Show. Jordan Strauss/Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP

Jimmy Fallon Finally Confirmed as Future Tonight Show Host

Heeeere’s Jimmy! After weeks of speculating and awkward, unfunny duets , NBC finally make it official today: Jimmy Fallon will take over The Tonight Show in 2014. “Jay Leno is an entertainment icon, making millions of people laugh every weeknight for more than 20 years,” said Steve Burke, Chief Executive Officer of NBCUniversal, adding: “His long reign as the highest-rated late-night host is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to his viewers and to NBC. We are purposefully making this change when Jay is #1, just as Jay replaced Johnny Carson when he was #1. “Jimmy Fallon is a unique talent and this is his time. I’m thrilled he will become the sixth host of ‘The Tonight Show’ at exactly the right moment, in conjunction with our coverage of next year’s Winter Olympic Games from Sochi, Russia.” Leno’s contract expires next year and the network wanted to make this switch before Jimmy Kimmel could steal more young viewers at 11:35 p.m. “Congratulations Jimmy,” Leno said in a statement. “I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy. If you need me, I’ll be at the garage.” Added Fallon; “I’m really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow.” Who would you prefer to see as host of The Tonight Show?   Jay Leno Jimmy Fallon Conan!
