This week, he admitted the show messed up firing Curry – or at least how it was handled – but he also made other comments that were less flattering. He told the Daily Beast that she wasn’t his first choice to replace Meredith Vieira, and that he lobbied for Katie Couric to rejoin the show instead. The two were even prepared to team up on a syndicated daytime show, but negotiations broke down and Katie went to ABC, while Matt stayed put. Caught in the crossfire – as she was back then – is Ann. “Ann just wants to move on from her departure from Today, and she has,” says a source. “However, she isn’t allowed to give any media interviews.” “Ann was infuriated by Matt’s comments. The network has said from the onset of Ann’s demotion from the show that Matt had no power over the decision.” “Yet, in the same interview he admits to talking to Katie Couric for over a year. Clearly, Matt has a lot of clout to be engaged in high level talks of a potential hire!” “It’s just another slap in Ann’s face.” How involved is he? Lauer was solely responsible for Curry’s ouster, according to some sources, while others describe his role as less substantive. Ronaiah Tuiasosopo is about to bare all to Dr. Phil. According to TMZ sources, the man who has allegedly admitted to masterminding the Manti Te’o girlfriend hoax recorded an interview with the attention-starved psychologist yesterday and it will air some time next week. Described as “emotional and deep,” the sit-down reportedly took place after Tuiasosopo and Dr. Phil watched the Manti Te’o interview with Katie Couric, during which the linebacker denied any role in the scheme. Te’o has said Tuiasosopo Tweeted him an apology for orchestrating the hoax, while insiders tell TMZ he did so simply to get close to Manti. Ronaiah’s attorney, meanwhile, claims his client was the one to actually voice Lenny Kekua in every phone call with Te’o. The Dr. Phil interview will mark Tuiasosopo’s first public comments on the complicated, sordid topic.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are causing quite a stir on the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother. The gruesome twosome is receiving death threats, apparently. “The American couple have become the most reviled contestants in the history of the show,” one insider says, to the surprise of zero Americans. The death threats are serious enough that “Big Brother chiefs will ensure they get close protection from minders when they eventually exit the house.” According to UK celeb gossip sources, the dastardly duo know as Speidi “mock other contestants, argue with them and refuse to join in tasks to get rewards.” Sounds about right. They have also engaged in X-rated action on air – there was a Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag sex scene deemed too hot for TV – making many uncomfortable. This week, many of the show’s fans in Britain took to Twitter to express their grief, using harsh words such as “kill” and “death” in relation to The Hills stars. Making an already tense situation even worse is a recent photo shoot Speidi did in which they showcase their love for (and collection of) firearms. Always so classy, and sensitive to others. It’s an interesting turn of events, since less than two weeks ago, the married reality stars were winning over Celebrity Big Brother fans with their conniving ways. Do you believe him ? Manti Te’O Denies Being Gay Via TMZ reports : Manti Te’o just revealed … he’s NOT GAY … despite rumors he used a fake girlfriend to hide his homosexuality. Katie Couric asked Manti flat-out whether he’s gay because it’s the most obvious explanation for the bizarre “Lennay Kekua” hoax — but Manti replied, “No. Far from it. FAR FROM IT.” Manti also revealed Ronaiah Tuiasosopo’s full confession, which Ronaiah sent via Twitter, saying, “I completely accept the consequences to the pain I’ve caused and it’s important that you know the entire truth before anyone else.” Just when you though Te’o and his BS story had officially jumped the shark and entered into its 15th minute…. Ronaiah Tuiasosopo had intense feelings for Manti Te’o … feelings that developed over time that he channeled through a female persona, but the emotions — like the scam — were rooted in fantasy. Sources very close to Ronaiah tell TMZ … he struggled for years trying to adapt to the expectations of his culture, his religion and his family. Ronaiah, we’re told, never had a serious physical relationship with anyone and created a female persona online as a way to vent his feelings. We’re told Ronaiah used the female persona in many encounters, but so far there’s no evidence he became intensely emotionally attached to anyone — until Manti. We’ve confirmed when Ronaiah spoke with Manti as “Lennay Kekua” he used his own voice. They were gay for each other and when his spot got blown up he made his boyfriend take the blame. The end.
