Back in 2016, Kesha alleged that she had been raped by Dr. Luke, an A-list music producer who has worked with just about every big name in pop over the course of his career. The allegations never resulted in any criminal charges, but Kesha’s lawsuit against Luke and his subsequent countersuit have led to countless headlines and many hours of sworn testimony. At least two of Luke’s other high-profile collaborators have provided depositions thus far. Back in November, testimony from Katy Perry revealed that while she sympathized with Kesha, she denied the singer’s claims that she had also been raped by Luke . Documents that were unsealed that same week revealed that Lady Gaga provided emotional support to Kesha as she grappled with the decision to go public with her allegations. Gaga’s testimony was made public this week, and while the singer says she was never assaulted by Luke, her sympathy for her fellow abuse survivor is obvious. Before she began her testimony, Gaga’s lawyer revealed that whole episode “has proved to be a trigger event” for her. “[S]he has experienced in the past few hours some PTSD reactions which is causing some trauma and emotional reactivity,” he said. “So she is crying now the record will reflect.” From there, Gaga recounted meeting with Kesha not long after Luke’s alleged attack. “What we discussed was what I recall was her immense sadness and depression and fear,” Gaga recalled. “She was visibly very different than when I had seen her before, and — but I can’t say specifically what exactly we spoke about. I just recall that it was emotional, and I wanted to be there for her.” Gaga went on to reveal what Kesha later told her about the assault. “She told me that he used power and manipulation in some fashion or some type of verbiage,” Gaga recalled. “I am not repeating exactly the words that came out of her mouth, but that he used power and manipulation to control her, and that she had been given a happy pill, that he offered her something and that she took it, and that she woke up and didn’t remember, and that’s what she told me.” Asked if she felt that Kesha’s claims would damage Luke’s reputation, Gaga aptly pointed out that there are bigger things at stake here than one man’s reputation: “Reputation, if you are asking about his reputation in the world, I don’t feel at liberty to speak for the entire world,” the singer stated. “So if you are asking what my view is of his reputation, I made my view of him and his reputation when I saw her in that back room. That was an image that — of something that happened to me, and I felt and knew in my heart that she was telling the truth, and I believe her.” Asked why Kesha would come forward after initially remaining quiet about the alleged assault, Gaga became irate: “And when this happens in this industry, it is kept extremely secret, and it is compounded by contracts and manipulative power scenarios that actually include this very situation that we are all in right now,” she told the court. “Why on earth would this girl tell the entire world that this happened? Why on earth? Do you know what it’s like for survivors? Do you know what it’s like to tell people? “Don’t you roll your eyes at me,” she told an attorney for Luke. “You should be ashamed of yourself.” The outcome of Kesha and Luke’s competing lawsuits remains to be seen, but whatever the case, Gaga in many others have made it clear that they will no longer be intimidated into silence by powerful men. Back in 2016, Kesha alleged that she was raped by famed record music producer Dr. Luke. Luke has worked with some of the biggest names in pop over the course of his career, and Kesha insisted that she was not his only victim. In court documents that were unsealed last year, Kesha accused Luke of raping Katy Perry, and to the surprise of many, Perry remained silent on the matter. But while she never spoke out on social media, Perry did respond to the allegations in court. And it seems the singer was not happy to be dragged into a legal battle she wanted no part in. In a 2017 deposition unsealed today and obtained by Radar Online, Katy makes her feelings on the situation very clear: “Annoyed, pissed off that she would bring me into it in this way, annoyed at both Luke and Kesha,” Perry replied when asked how she felt about Kesha’s claims. Perry stated that she was never assaulted by Luke, but declined to support him publicly, as she knew her fans would be “very angry” if she were to defend an accused rapist. “I would be attacked, I would be the one woman that is against women and I’m not against women, but I believe in innocent until proven guilty and I believe in justice,” she told the court. “I want to stay out of it because I know them both and I empathize with both of them and obviously it’s a horrible situation for both of them,” she added. “And the only two people that know what really went on are those two people.” Today’s unsealed files also contain a transcript of a 2016 text message conversation between Kesha and Lady Gaga on the subject of Perry: “Was crying a lot today and needed my mom,” Kesha told her fellow pop star. “I’m really upset with Katy Perry … She could bring the whole thing to a head…She was raped by the same man. She is probably really afraid to lose everything.” “U are really strong standing up to him, she’s not as strong as u yet,” Gaga assured her friend, adding: “Have you talked to her?” “[You’re] right. I need to find sympathy and empathy for her. She’s so mean. It’s hard,” Kesha responded. “Do you want me to see if I can talk to her?” Gaga said. “I know she’s mean.” Kesha was definitive in response, texting, “OMG, NO!” in response to Gaga’s offer to intervene. While no criminal charges have been filed against Luke, he and Kesha have both filed civil suits against one another. Their legal battle remains ongoing. Pebe Stewart’s Words May Cost Her Some Coins Pop singer Kesha has been in a seemingly unending battle with her former manager Lukasz “ Dr. Luke ” Gottwald. Kesha’s mother, Pepe Sebert, has levied serious accusations toward Dr. Luke, believing that the manager raped her daughter. Dr. Luke has long maintained his innocence and has now gone on the offensive, suing Sebert for libel. Luke believes Sebert has made defamatory statements in interviews in an effort to “damage him and smear his name.” via Rolling Stone Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald has filed a second libel lawsuit against Pebe Sebert, Kesha’s mother, alleging that the singer’s mother has continued to defame him during his ongoing legal battle with Kesha. In Gottwald’s second lawsuit, filed September 7th in Tennessee, the producer cites a March 10th Billboard interview Sebert gave as evidence of continued defamation, Pitchfork reports. In that interview, Pebe Sebert said her daughter was a “prisoner” to Gottwald and her Kemosabe contract with the producer, and again accused Gottwald of sexually assaulting her daughter. “After we originally filed suit against Pebe Sebert, she continued to make outrageous, false, and defamatory statements against Dr. Luke in her widespread media campaign to damage him and smear his name,” Dr. Luke’s lawyer Christina Lepera said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Pebe Sebert’s lawyers flat out refused to allow us to add those statements to the existing case or to toll the statute of limitations on them— so we’ve been compelled to file an additional action.” Pebe Sebert’s lawyer Alex Little responded to the new libel suit in a statement to Pitchfork, “This marks Dr. Luke’s second effort to sue a mother for publicly supporting and believing her daughter about being raped. It’s also a transparent attempt to delay the trial of these issues. Mrs. Sebert looks forward to presenting her case to a jury as soon as possible. When the evidence is made public, she expects the jury will conclude that all of her statements have been justified.” Gottwald’s filed his initial lawsuit against Pebe Sebert, alleging defamation and “tortious interference” with her daughter’s contract, in October 2014 in both New York and Tennessee; the New York lawsuit was dismissed since Kesha’s business matters are handled in Tennessee, where the libel suit continues. In response, Pebe Sebert filed counterclaims against Dr. Luke, accusing the producer of intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress based on Kesha’s alleged abuse. Sebert also claimed misrepresentations and fraudulent inducement stemming from an alleged promise from Gottwald that she would be involved in her daughter’s career. However, Sebert dismissed the suit against the producer in April 2016 because she “decided to move on and find peace and forgiveness in her heart rather than dwelling in the cancerous past of an ongoing lawsuit with no end in sight,” Little told Rolling Stone in a statement at the time. Gottwald’s latest legal action comes just a month after the fight between him and Kesha seemed to thaw, with the singer dropping her California lawsuit against him and providing Kemosabe with 28 new songs in order to “release her next album and single as soon as possible.” Do you think he has a valid claim?
