First Look: ‘Skyfall’ Raises Bond Franchise To New Heights

Director Sam Mendes  and screenwriters, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan have done a very wily thing for James Bond’s 50th anniversary: They’ve given 007  a midlife crisis. The trauma takes root during the white-knuckle opening of  Skyfall , the best film so far of Daniel Craig ‘s run as Ian Fleming’s suave super spy and one of the best of the Bond franchise. After chasing his quarry by motorcycle over the rooftops of Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar and piloting an earth mover over a speeding train to keep his target from escaping, a wounded Bond loses the battle, and, it appears, his life. But since the movie has only just started, there’s not much doubt that he will back after the eerie-but-dreamy titles sequence set to Adele’s lush theme song . ‘ When he appears on screen again, Bond’s in paradise and presumed dead in the U.K. His wounds have healed, except for the big psychic gash that has him drinking shots while balancing a riled scorpion on his wrist for sport. Alas, even paradise has CNN and, soon, Bond is learning from Wolf Blitzer that MI6’s headquarters have been bombed and it’s time for him to return to the service of his country. Except it’s not as easy as that. After Mike Myers strip-mined the Bond franchise for his Austin Powers parodies, the Bond writers take a cue from The Spy Who Shagged Me and explore the idea: what would happen if James Bond lost his mojo?  Although Craig’s chiseled body does not exactly cooperate with the plotline, he does the best acting of his career playing a supremely confident man grappling with the onset of doubt: doubt in himself, doubt in his work and doubt in his superiors, who with the exception of M  (played once again with stately grit by Judi Dench), seem to be of the mind that 007 has passed his sell by date. But, shaky as his trigger hand may be, 007 is not going down without a fight. There’s a wonderful scene in the National Gallery in London where Bond meets the new Q, who turns out to be an insouciant young whippersnapper played by the excellent Ben Whishaw.  As man and boy genius stare at J.M.W. Turner’s painting The Fighting Téméraire’ tugged to her last Berth to be broken up,  Q sets the tone by describing the image as a “grand old warship being ignominiously hauled away to scrap.”   He then boasts that he can accomplish more while working his laptop at home “in my pajamas.”  Guys like Bond, he implies, are only still around because “Every now and then a trigger has to be pulled.” “Or not pulled,” 007 replies before going in for the kill.  “It’s hard to know when you’re in your pajamas.” Craig’s searing, stoic performance is beautifully complemented by Javier Bardem’s flamboyant turn as Silva, a former MI6 operative and computer genius who has stolen the list of every NATO agent embedded in enemy camps across the globe and is slowly blowing their covers. Bardem vaults into the pantheon of Bond villains by playing Silva as a bleach-blonde, computer savvy Anton Chigurh, who appears to have a thing for Bond. Even more remarkable, when Silva reveals this attraction to his bound former colleague by caressing his chest, 007  coolly alludes that it wouldn’t be the first time he’s gotten it on with a guy. Silva has a different kind of hard-on for M, who turns out to be the reason he has hatched his evil plan, which, like the rest of the movie, is more plausible and human-scale than a lot of the world-domination hoo-ha that has taken place in previous Bond films. “Think on your sins,” is the warning message that Silva repeatedly sends M, and when he eventually recounts the blood-curdling turn of events that led him to turn his back on his country, it’s difficult not to have some empathy for him. Skyfall  has most of the familiar ingredients of Bond film — beautiful women, sleek cars — the Aston Martin DB5 makes a cameo appearance that will be talked about for a long time — memorable villains and intense action scenes. And yet, the movie is also full of surprises, small and pivotal. You won’t find me spilling any of them though. Not unless martinis are involved. Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. Katy Perry Hits Water Park In New ‘Part Of Me’ Clip

‘When we have a day off, she always likes me to explore something fun with her,’ sister Angela Hudson says of Katy in upcoming film. By James Dinh Katy Perry in the trailer for “Part Of Me” Photo: Imagine Entertainment ‘s 3-D docu-concert “Part of Me” will showcase the darker side of the pop darling’s roller-coaster ride to fame, including her divorce from Russell Brand. Still, there will be tons of fun thrown in the mix. In between scenes from her 2011 worldwide California Dreams trek, the July 5 film will also feature footage of the singer’s family, including a water-park outing with her sister. In an almost minute-long teaser clip from the film, Katy’s older sister, Angela Hudson, talks about how she grew up promising to work with Katy “when she made it big.” In between takes of the duo in choir and backstage at concert halls, Angela explains, “My sister, not only does she work hard on tour, but she likes to play hard on tour. “Anytime we go to a city when we have a day off, she always likes me to explore something fun with her,” she continues . With her hit “Firework” serving as appropriate background music, KatyCats catch a glimpse of the Perry sisters basking in the adventures of a water park. But what would any amusement park be without a little action-ride anxiety? Asked how she’s feeling before going on a bungee-jumping ride, the pop star responds, “I feel great. I’m really, really excited about my sister, who is scared of heights.” Unfortunately, Angela doesn’t appear to enjoy the ride as much as Katy thought she would, as the older sis offers cameras a frown. MTV News recently caught up with Perry at the Pepsi Fleet Week “Part of Me” Concert, where the patriotically-dressed songstress told us about how deep the film will take fans. “It’s the most intimate I’ve ever been. I mean that in a non-sexual way … I mean it in a vulnerable way,” she explained. “And so I’m not scared of it because I think it’s important for me, and important these days, for people to not think people in my position are perfect and that if they want to achieve this type of dream or achieve a goal that they have to be flawless. They don’t.” What do you think of the new “Part of Me” clip? Share your opinion in the comment section! Related Videos MTV First: Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Related Artists Katy Perry

Linkin Park Do ‘Everything At Once’ On LIVING THINGS

LP’s new album — due June 26 — sees them looking back, while still pushing the envelope forward. By James Montgomery Linkin Park’s LIVING THINGS Photo: Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros As if the drastic left turn they took with 2010’s A Thousand Suns wasn’t proof enough, it should be fairly obvious at this point that Linkin Park have grown tired of doing things the traditional way. Rather, they’re determined to blaze their own trail, which, given their standing as one of the hugest rock acts on the planet, is a certainly admirable — if not slightly questionable — way of operating. And though the follow-up to the willfully dissonant Suns — LIVING THINGS (due June 26) — isn’t quite as obtuse, it still finds the band experimenting with vastly different soundscapes, lyrical themes and recording techniques, simultaneously honing their focus and expanding their horizons. It is the rare record that both pays homage to the past while bolding looking forward, and needless to say, it’s a head-spinning listen from start to finish. Though, as Linkin Park told MTV News during the premiere of their new “BURN IT DOWN” video, they prefer to think of it as just the next step. “It’s just really different [from anything we’ve done before],” Mike Shinoda said. “I feel like we made a serious effort to try and touch all of the bases of all of the different things that we’ve done, and bring them together in each song. Not just one album, but each song. And then maybe sprinkle in some stuff that we’ve never done before, too.” That’s evident in first single “BURN,” which recalls both LP’s nu-metal past and their current experimental present … or in standout tracks like “CASTLE OF GLASS” or “UNTIL IT BREAKS,” sonic rattlers born out of the band’s less-than-traditional methods of recording, and all the better because of it. “Our writing process is a weird, amorphous thing. For some bands, just to put it in perspective, they jam, and then they write a song and then they record a song and then they mix it and finish it … we don’t do that,” Shinoda laughed. “We do everything at once, every step of the way. From the moment we’re putting things down on the laptop, I’m already kind of mixing it a little bit [and] sometimes those things end up being songs, like ‘CASTLE OF GLASS,’ [where] my vocal performance in the first part of that song, pretty much almost everything you hear in the beginning of the song was the very first demo. Like, that went from nothing there, to those things, and then the song got built. “Some songs we’ll come up with demos, and they won’t ever turn into anything … we’ll hear them, and we’ll now they’re not ever going to be a great song on their own,” he continued. “But there may be a section of it, a little glimmer of cool something in it, and the song ‘Until It Breaks’ is built from just those. There were like four demos that we had made that weren’t going anywhere individually, but when you put them all together, they make something really interesting. It’s supposed to feel really jarring and weird, and for me it was a really fun song to make.” So yes, while LIVING THINGS does represent a return to the band’s thundering past, it is also very much a snapshot of the band in 2012, still at the peak of their powers, still melding seemingly disparate sounds and influences, and pushing the envelope whenever possible. By whatever means necessary. “Just because you see Brad [Delson] playing a guitar on stage, doesn’t mean he just writes guitar on the album. A lot of times, especially on this record, more often than not, he wasn’t playing guitar,” Shinoda said. “But regardless of who played what, in our band, that’s not important. It’s more about everybody’s got a voice, and everybody’s got an influence on the song, and if one guy’s not really happy with something, then we try to address it.” Related Videos MTV First: Linkin Park Related Artists Linkin Park

DJ Khaled Tallies His Losses After Tour Bus Fire

‘I was on my laptop listening to my album. It’s the only thing I grabbed,’ Khaled tells Sway about the incident on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Carter Maness, with reporting by Sway Calloway DJ Khaled Photo: MTV News It all started with a bare tire. At least that’s what DJ Khaled told Sway on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” about his recent tour bus explosion . A video of the incident, showing Khaled reflecting on the loss while the bus was engulfed in a mountain of flames, has been making the rounds, but the Miami DJ/producer finally explained what happened in the exclusive interview. Apparently, a bare tire caused the large bus to overcompensate and heat up on the bottom. The growing temperature hit flammable material on the back end and, upon exiting the bus, everything under the hood was burnt. “In no longer than five minutes, the whole bus was completely on fire,” Khaled told Sway, still dumbfounded by the experience. “I wasn’t scared. I got real stressed at a moment. I had to stop, and my camera man, Daze, was like ‘I’m gonna film this. I gotta capture this.’ ” Losses for Khaled include at least 150 pairs of sneakers and up to $600,000 in jewelry, including two big-faced Rolex watches. Knowing time was limited, he and his crew made sure to grab the most important thing: music for his upcoming album.”I was on my laptop listening to my album. It’s the only thing I grabbed,” he said. “That’s the album. Very important… Everybody sacrificed to make sure we got the laptop and the drive.” More than any material loss, Khaled was thankful that everyone got through the experience unscathed. “We all go through pains and stress. We here,” he said. “It is what it is, but we got life.” Khaled also has some friends in high places to make life easier. Upon hearing the news, Cash Money honcho Birdman stepped up and immediately gave him a new bus from his fleet. “He called me when his bus blew, and it wasn’t too far from where we stash our buses at,” Birdman told Sway. “I was fortunate enough to send a bus to him and make sure he could continue his journey.” DJ Khaled’s sixth album, Kiss The Ring, is expected later this year. My name is Amy and on April 25 2012 at 10:55 am my dream…

My name is Amy and on April 25 2012 at 10:55  am my dream came true .  Lets start from the beginning. At 6am I woke up and got ready to  try meet Justin. I’ve had so many failed attempts and with the rain  pouring down, I really thought I shouldn’t bother. I  went with my best friend Melissa to the train station only to  find out we’d missed our train. Then the machine took my £10 and  Melissa’s bag broke. I really thought this would be the worst day ever  but it was far from it. We arrived at Justin’s hotel at 8:30 am and stood outside with the other Beliebers. We sung lots of songs and chanted for Justin to come  out. That’s when we saw Kenny. We all waved and said hello to him and  he went away.  We were all getting pretty bored and it was close to 11 by now.  That’s when Melissa shouted, “It’s Justin” . We all started shouting  with excitement and he began to walk towards us. He put his hands to  his lips and ‘shhhh-ed’ us all. Then another fan ran into me and pushed  me out the way. Melissa shouted my name and looked at Justin. That’s when I felt a hand trying to grab mine. I looked up and it was Justin looking worried. I thanked him and told him how much I love him. “I  love you too sweetie,” he said.  After that Moshe told Justin they had to go and he got into the car  followed by Jeremy, who was smiling at his son’s love with his fans.  As the car drove off, everyone ran in front of it but me and Melissa  stayed on the pavement and stood quietly. The car came towards us and  as the back window was infront of us, he put the window down and smiled  at me. “Justin Bieber you are truly my inspiration,” I said to him. He told me he loved me and to keep believing, waved and talked to some other fans then drove off waving goodbye.  Now I might not have got a picture, or an autograph, but today I  learned how truly amazing the love that Justin Bieber has for his fans  is. He honestly cares and appreciates every single one of us.  Yesterday night I was sitting on my laptop reading other Bieber Experiences on here.  If you haven’t met Justin yet your time will come, your dream will  come true, like he said to me, “Keep Believing”. -@ BieberLovass See more here: My name is Amy and on April 25 2012 at 10:55 am my dream…

I am 26 years old, married, have a 1 year old son and I love…

I am 26 years old, married, have a 1 year old son and I love Justin Bieber. My story isn’t very long or have anything really to do with Justin, but with his mother, Pattie! I had been having a sleepless night with my son. He had been running a high fever and just not feeling well. On nights like these, my laptop keeps me company and awake! I hopped on Twitter and had seen Pattie had sent a recent tweet, and I thought hmm, I wonder since it’s 1:30 AM on my end, if I send her a tweet if she would respond. So I sent out my first tweet: “@studiomama it’s 1:30 AM and I’m up with my sick 10 month old. Do you miss those days?” I waited a while and got no response, so I tried again: “@studiomama it’s 2:18 AM and I’m up with my very sick 10 month old. You miss those days?” And 4 minutes later I got a direct message from Pattie! She said: “Crazy as it sounds yes! Cherish it! It goes by so fast lol! Sending love!” Oh my gosh, I couldn’t express to my sick baby how much I was excited to have gotten a DM from Pattie and it was 2:30 in the morning and my husband was sleeping. I had to sit with all my excitement trapped inside of me haha. I tried to send a DM back but since Pattie doesn’t follow me, I couldn’t. The following tweet I sent in response to her DM and in response to all that crap going on about Justin being some girl’s baby’s daddy, it said: “@studiomama Thanks so much! You and @justinbieber have been in my prayers for all going on. God is good! #godbless.” While my story doesn’t deal with Justin, it deals with his amazing mother. I love them both for their hearts. So kind, generous and loving towards the fans! -@braebookster Originally posted here: I am 26 years old, married, have a 1 year old son and I love…

Mr. Skin’s Nude Movie Report: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The American adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens in theaters tonight at midnight, and while you’re probably not surprised to hear star Rooney Mara makes her nude debut (duh, she’s topless on the poster ), thanks to our Skin Skout we’re gonna get all Lisbeth on you and dig in to the dirty details. But don’t worry, we aren’t going to hack your laptop…God knows what we’d find on there! Rooney’s nudes begin on a decidedly unpleasant note as she bares butt during a graphic anal rape scene 54 minutes in. Then 4 minutes later, we see her pierced boobs for the first time, as well as her bruised cheeks, as she washes herself off afterwards. They did say it was going to be “The Feel-Bad Movie of Christmas”… Luckily, the rest of the movie’s nudity is in a consensual context, with Rooney showing snookers to a lez-be-friend she picks up at a nightclub 1 hour, 16 minutes in, then going AC/DC by baring boobs, butt and strawberry blonde bush in the sack with Daniel Craig 1 hour, 39 minutes and 2 hours, 14 minutes in. Want a sneak peek of Rooney’s boobies? You’ll be The Guy with the Raging Hard-On when you see our The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo page right here at MrSkin.com!

Maria Fowler’s Boob Grab

Here’s busty British nobody Maria Fowler getting herself a handful of big fat breasts while out on the town last night. That’s it lady, get in there. Not that I can blame her, if I had those things I wouldn’t leave the house and I’d go through a hell of a lot of baby oil. What’s going on with her face in the top picture? If it weren’t for those massive breasts I’d say this was a dude dressed up as a lady for Halloween. And not even a convincing lady. Luckily I know better so I’m not confused by the erection poking into the bottom of my laptop. I love boobs.

Wiz Khalifa Comparisons ‘Huge’ To Newbie T. Mills

‘I thought that whole signing to a major label, getting on the radio only happened in movies,’ ‘Stupid Boy’ MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman T. Mills Photo: MTV News Fire Starter: T. Mills One listen to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and that was all she wrote for young Travis Mills. The 22-year-old Riverside, California, native was so enamored by the multiplatinum rap quintet that he decided to jump into music. “The fact that they could sing and rap at the same time, integrate melody and stuff into their songs, I was blown away,” T. Mills told Mixtape Daily. Now that Mills does in fact blend rap and pop melodies in his music, some are comparing the tatted-up newcomer to Wiz Khalifa. While Mills insisted that he’s his own man, he’s also flattered by the comparison. “I think it’s definitely a compliment. I’m a huge Wiz fan,” he said. “Even for someone to put me in the same category as Wiz is a huge accomplishment for myself because I been f—in’ with Wiz a long time and he’s on top of the game right now.” T. Mills hopes to eventually occupy a similar space. When he was 17, the young rapper began recording songs on his MacBook, and by 18, he was posting his music on MySpace. In 2009, Mills performed 60 shows as part of the Vans Warped Tour, where a dance tent was his stage. He went on to sign with independent label Uprising Records, the home of his 2010 debut Ready, Fire, Aim! Although he’s still a relative unknown, his video for “Stupid Boy” has clocked 1.8 million views on YouTube. And T. Mills is just getting started. At the top of the year, he signed to Columbia Records, dropping his free LP Leaving Home with the label. “Originally, the concept for the album was a mixtape, I just wanted to put out a mixtape,” he explained. “What if we do an album that I give to my fans as gratitude?” he remembered asking the record company. While “Stupid Boy” is a party track, Mills believes he has grown since then, so on Leaving Home, he offers up more than just carefree, feel-good music. “It was my first time in a real studio, so it was my first time having access to all that stuff,” he said of his breakout single. “Before then I just recorded on my laptop. I feel like it was a good learning experience for me. It’s not who I am now but it gave me that platform.” That’s not to say that Leaving Home isn’t fun. There’s the sneakers-and-sex ode “Vans On,” where Mills sings about making love while wearing his skater kicks, for example. And to add balance, there’s also the inspirational “Smoke & Mirrors” and the cautionary “Hollywood.” With his major-label debut scheduled for a 2012 release, it seems T. Mills is well on his way. The reality of it all, though, is still a bit much for the small-town kid. “When I was 19, I didn’t think anything could happen,” he admitted. “I’m from a small town; I thought that whole signing to a major label, getting on the radio only happened in movies.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
