Source: Will Crocker / Getty Wrongfully Convicted Corey Atchison Freed From Prison Corey Atchison, 48, was released Tuesday by Tulsa County District Judge Sharon Holmes, after serving 28 years for a crime he didn’t commit, according to ABC News . Atchison was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 1991 for the fatal shooting of James Lane in Tulsa in 1990 during what police said was a gang-related attempted robbery. It’s believed that Atchison was coerced into “confessing” he did the crime. The finding of “actual innocence” by Holmes makes Atchison eligible for up to $175,000 in compensation for a wrongful conviction under Oklahoma state law. After walking free from the courthouse this week, Atchison says he’s not holding any grudges towards the people who landed him in prison for almost three decades. Hit play.
Source: Chelsea Lauren / Getty Master P recently shared his opinion about the allegations against R. Kelly and the singer’s alleged victims. But unlike Chance the Rapper and John Legend who have come out against the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer, the rapper blames the parents, NOT the singer himself. On social media, the rapper posted his thoughts about the highly-watched Lifetime docuseries, “Surviving R. Kelly,” which provided an in-depth look at the 25-plus-years of sexual misconduct accusations against the “Pied Piper.” The 48-year-old father admitted that he doesn’t like folks like the Savages and doesn’t believe they did enough to protect their children. “Let me tell y’all about R. Kelly. The truth is I don’t like the parents…Y’all know I ain’t gonna be on no reality show or Lifetime, I’ma be on CNN, straight up. It’s gonna get real, think about it, I’m not about to play with nobody, I’ma burn it down, I’m gonna do something,” he said. In a second video, he added this wouldn’t have happened to him. “Ain’t nobody gonna play with my kids. Straight up. You shouldn’t have even been on TV, and if you a parent, you shouldn’t be on that unless you on CNN from a jail cell.” Adding, “I don’t know if R. Kelly did it or not, that ain’t any of my business, I ain’t judging, but I’m just saying those parents shouldn’t have let that go that far. … If my kid in there, it’s gonna be all out war. Everybody coming outside, to be honest with you.” Wait…so which one is it? How can you be mad at parents for not protecting their daughters from sexual and physical violence you claim may not have happened? Folks on Twitter were confused and disgusted by what Master P said, accusing him of victim blaming and refusing to hold Kelly accountable for his alleged behavior: Just heard Master P say that what R. Kelly does is not his business. Master P has a Black daughter. Again, proximity to Black women doesn't guarantee being seen as human. — T Lloyd (@T_Lloyd) January 7, 2019 This is disgusting. @MasterPMiller just giving R Kelly a pass and blaming the parents. This is why R Kelly has not been held accountable in a way that matches his crimes. https://t.co/TxOK1fLOts — Yashar Ali (@yashar) January 7, 2019 Master P blamed everyone else except R. Kelly. When it came down to actually speaking on R. Kelly, then “its not his business” “he aint judging”. He doesn't actually care about Black girls and women. — Melancholy Tiff *Capitalism kills* Hallback (@Tiff__83) January 7, 2019 So Master P won’t judge R. Kelly, but he can judge the parents of R. Kelly’s victims? pic.twitter.com/2ug3WlNQdL — Blanche NeverHo (@Black_Daria1) January 7, 2019 The parents called the police multiple times, made multiple missing persons reports, set up a hotline for R.Kelly victims, did several wellness checks, went to TMZ, went to the today show, and Master P is mad because they didn't go to CNN? What the fuck is wrong with y'all? — Blerd Talk (@AntravisBisou) January 7, 2019 Of course, there were also people who agreed with the rapper’s stance: Master p said exactly what needed to be said about the R kelly situation — Osama Bin Milly (@Militant_Mill) January 7, 2019 Aye Master P the realest man to speak on R Kelly and that’s FACT! Like he said I’m going to war behind my child that’s LAW! Mfs woulda been doing my interview from CNN too skraight up — Young Entrepreneur (@YannaaRose) January 7, 2019 Master P the realest one. Everybody blaming R.Kelly but ain’t nobody blaming these parents. — A K A Y (@ForeverAKay_) January 7, 2019 This set of Master P videos came out the same day that Facebook shut down pages on its site trying to “expose” the singer’s accusers. As we previously reported , reps from the social network claimed that “Surviving The Lies” violated terms of service. “The Page violated our Community Standards and has been removed,” a Facebook rep said in a statement. “We do not tolerate bullying or sharing other’s private contact information and take action on content that violates our policies as soon as we’re aware.” Initially, TMZ reported that “[R. Kelly] and his camp” were behind the two accounts and created them in order to fight back against the doc. A Facebook page created yesterday is now running ads to smear R Kelly's accusers. The page paints Kelly as someone “surviving lies.” pic.twitter.com/hbwZ4DXXiz — Ryan Mac (@RMac18) January 7, 2019 RELATED NEWS: #SurvivingRKelly: Facebook Shuts Down Page ‘Exposing’ The Singer’s Accusers #SurvivingRKelly: Five Emotions You’ll Experience Watching The New Lifetime Docuseries Aaliyah’s Mother Dismisses Backup Dancer’s Claim She Saw Aaliyah & R. Was it really that fawking serious lady?!?! Mom Rips Out Daughter’s Hair For Not Being Able To Count A Pennsylvania, woman is in custody after authorities say she became so irate that her 6-year-old couldn’t count to 12 that she ripped a chunk of hair from her scalp. WPXI reports: A beaver county mother is facing charges after authorities said she abused her daughter by violently pulling her hair. According to the complaint, officers were first alerted to the case on Aug. 31 when hospital officials reported they were treating a 6-year-old for an injury to her head. The complaint said the injury was described as a separation of the victim’s scalp from her skull, also known as traction. This caused a void between the skull and scalp that filled with blood. “The doctors told us there was a separation of the victim from her skull,” Conway police Officer Mike Priolo said. Doctors who treated the girl told police her injuries were most consistent with violent hair pulling, as well as an impact to her left ear. Once officers interviewed the girl’s mother, identified as Brittany Ruck, the complaint states she admitted to pulling her daughter’s hair to get her attention. The complaint said the child told police that her mother wanted her to count to 12, but she couldn’t. “The little girl told us she could only count to 10 because she had 10 fingers, but she couldn’t count any higher. That’s when the mother grabbed her by her hair,” Priolo said. According to the complaint, the girl told police that on a separate occasion, her mother pulled her across the floor into a corner by a hair. “It’s just sad because she didn’t do anything wrong and she had to bear the brunt of pain,” Priolo said. Channel 11 News had learned Ruck has three children, and they’ve been placed with other family members. SMH…@ the mom previously pulling the daughter across the floor by her hair, she clearly has a history of abuse. What do YOU think about this story BOSSIP fam????
Study Finds White People More In Support Of Voter Suppression Laws After Seeing Black People Vote via Kulture Kritic Researchers from the University of Delaware’s Center for Political Communication have released a new study suggesting that photographs of black Americans using voting machines affect white respondents’ support of voter-ID laws. According to the study (pdf), when white survey respondents saw an image of black Americans using ballot machines, they had stronger support for voter ID than those who did not see the image. Furthermore, seeing white Americans using ballot machines had no impact on respondents’ support of the controversial laws. “Our findings suggest that public opinion about voter-ID laws can be racialized by simply showing images of African-American people,” David C. Wilson, who helped supervise the nationwide study, said. For the survey, which was conducted online in 2012, respondents were divided into three groups, one of which saw an image of black voters, one that saw an image of white voters and one that saw no image at all. In the first group, which saw a picture of black voters, 73 percent of white respondents said that they favored voter-ID laws. This is in comparison with the white respondentsin the remaining two groups, who were 67 percent in favor. The 6-percentage-point difference is big enough to be statistically significant, researchers say. “Majorities in all three groups favored voter-ID laws, but the margin was wider when white respondents saw a black person using a voting machine,” Wilson said.
