Florida Crazies: Woman Steals Candy And Tells Cops She’s ‘A God’ Who Can Do No Wrong

Because FLORIDA …smh Florida Woman Tells Cops She’s A God A Florida woman was recently arrested after authorities say she stole candy from a dollar store, flaunted it in the store owner’s face and told police she was “a God” who could do no wrong. Alrighty… TCPalm reports: A woman accused of absconding with Raisinets later told investigators she was a “god” and could do as she wished. But Martin County Sheriff’s officials evidently disagreed, taking her to the slammer on a disorderly conduct charge, according to recently released records. The case against Nancy Mullis, 52 at the time, began shortly after 5 a.m. July 17 as a deputy went to a Cumberland Farms store in the 2900 block of Southeast Dixie Highway. A manager said Mullis swiped a bag of Raisinets, valued at $2.99, and that they wanted to prosecute. Mullis also said she took the Raisinets — chocolate covered raisins popular with movie-goers. The manager said Mullis caused a ruckus in the store. He said she grabbed the Raisinets when she left and while outside “flaunted the stolen property at the store clerk.” Mullis was given a trespass warning from the store and a notice to appear in court on a theft charge, while the Raisinets were returned. About 4:30 p.m. the same day, deputies again encountered Mullis. “Mullis was waving her arms wildly and cursing,” an affidavit states. “Mullis was stating that she was a god and could do what she wanted.” The owner showed the deputy where Mullis is said to have thrown stuff from the shelves onto the ground and flipped over a newspaper stand and cigarette receptacle. Mullis, of Stuart, was arrested on a disorderly conducted charge and taken to jail. Someone come get your Aunt Nancy please!

Matt Kemp, Dodgers Outfielder, Hands Over Uniform to Sick Fan

It’s safe to say Matt Kemp is anything but a sore loser. Sunday night, after getting swept by the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers outfielder didn’t forget about a promise he made to third base coach Tim Wallach. Moments after the game, he made his way to the first row of stands because he had promised to sign an autograph for a terminally ill Dodgers fan, Joshua Jones. But Kemp ended up doing a lot more than that:  Matt Kemp Gives Fan Uniform Taking off his cap, jersey and cleats, the 28-year-old baseball superstar handed them all to this 19-year-old suffering from inoperable brain tumors. “I was in shock,” Jones said in a phone interview Tuesday. “I was sitting there thinking, ‘I can’t believe he’s doing this.’” Asked about the incident, Kemp didn’t even make a big deal of it. “I didn’t plan on taking the jersey off, but it’s something I felt would probably cheer him up a little bit … and that was my first time taking my shoes off in front of the fans,” he told reporters. “But life is so much bigger than baseball.”

Olivia Sprauer Forced to Resign as Teacher Over Bikini Photos

A Martin County High School English in Florida, Olivia Sprauer, says she lost her job because her bikini modeling side job got the principal’s attention. She posed in clothing you might see on any beach in America, but this educator said her swimsuit pics got her banned from for good from her classroom. Olivia Sprauer, 26, who models under the name Victoria James, said she decided to pose for bikini photos this winter even though she knew the risk. “Lots of teachers get fired or asked to resign for the same things I did,” Sprauer said. “I knew I didn’t want to come back next year and I knew I wanted to go to grad school so I decided if I made it to the end of the year I would be happy.” Unfortunately for Sprauer, she didn’t quite make it. Last week, she was called into principal Alfred Fabrizio’s office and pretty much told to hit the road. Sprauer said the principal showed her one of her modeling photos and, after she confirmed the picture was of her, she was asked to resign that day. “I felt like it would have been nice for my students to finish out the year,” Sprauer said. “They trusted me and they made me happy so that aspect of it was sad.” The Martin County School District would only confirm that Olivia Sprauer, who taught freshmen and juniors, is no longer employed at the school. Sprauer said she feels she did nothing wrong: “I don’t make pornography. I don’t open my legs on camera. I take swimsuit glamour style photography.” As for her students’ reactions to the scandal that ended her tenure? “They are happy for me,” Sprauer said. “They know I love them.” The boys, we imagine, are particularly happy she did this. Was the school right to force her out over this?   Yes. She has to hold herself to a higher standard. No. It’s her life and not even that racy. View Poll »

Oil Spill and the SE Florida Reef System; What’s at stake?

On April 25, 2010, just five days after the BP Deep Horizon oil rig exploded, Reef Check, The Perry Institute for Marine Science and Ocean Rehab Initiative Inc. responded to protect threatened critical wetland ecosystems. Collaboratively, these institutions of marine research and conservation developed the Pre-Oil Volunteer Survey, whose methodology is now widely used across the Gulf of Mexico and Greater Caribbean by groups including USGS, USCG, NOAA, EPA, DEP, The Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, Surfrider Foundation and others. Scientists agreed that the survey methodology must be easy to teach and understand, be at little or no cost to perform, and provide real and significant results for science. In fact, you may even own most of the equipment needed for the survey, like a camera, GPS, tape measure, magic marker and plastic cards. To date, hundreds of volunteers have surveyed critical habitats for oil-threatened species in their native wetlands (estuaries, sea grasses, mangroves, lagoons, rivers, inlets, reefs and beaches) along South Florida, from the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary to Indian River County. Just this week, teams surveyed reefs in Palm Beach and Martin County, and were pleased to discover a healthy reef system. Residents up and down the coast have volunteered their time to aid during the largest environmental catastrophe in U.S. history. Current and future volunteers are not only divers, but come from all backgrounds: children, elderly, activists, government employees, retired and working citizens.
