‘I always think about that song that will be able to let you out of that slump,’ Looking 4 Myself singer says on ‘MTV First.’ By John Mitchell Usher at “MTV First” Photo: MTV News It’s not often that fans get to hit the club to party with the artist behind the latest dance hit, but that’s exactly what happened for the audience at the interactive off-Broadway show “Fuerza Bruta” when Usher arrived for a unique first-listen experience for his new album, Looking 4 Myself . As the R&B megastar’s latest hit, the beat-driven Max Martin-produced “Scream,” pounded through the theater, Usher flew into the audience for a rave-like dance party that had everyone in the place moving. He’s used to that sort of reaction by now, having released some of the biggest club hits of the past 15 years, including “OMG,” “Yeah,” “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” and “My Way.” Usher consistently makes dance records that define a night, and it’s important to the singer that his upbeat songs reach people on as deep a level as his more personal ballads. “If I’m gonna move you, I want to move you. I hope that it could be something that could be life changing,” the soulful signer said during “MTV First: Usher.” “You may be going through something real crazy, who knows, and just need to get out and just enjoy yourself. So I always think about the club, I always think about that song that will be able to let you out of that slump, if you’re in it.” But “Scream” isn’t just for those looking for escape. The track can work on many levels, according to the singer: “If you’re just ready to have a good time, or if you’re working out and you just need that little motivation to push you over the edge, there you go.” Related Videos MTV First: Usher Related Artists Usher
Femme Fatale ‘s second single was penned by Ke$ha. By Jocelyn Vena Photo: Jive Britney Spears’ new single, “Till the World Ends,” sounds poised to be a club smash. The Ke$ha-written , Dr. Luke/Max Martin-produced track was posted by Perez Hilton on Thursday afternoon (March 3), after speculation earlier in the day that the song would hit radio next week. “Till the World Ends” is a swirling, “beat the beat” track, ready for late nights spent “dancing till the world ends” as she sings on the fast-paced party jam. “This kitten got your tongue tied in knots I see/ Spit it out ’cause I’m dying for company,” a confident Spears purrs. As the song slows for a moment — during a break before she moves her way to the chorus — she sings, “I can’t take it take it take no more/ Never felt like felt like this before/ Come on get me get me on the floor/ DJ, what you what you waiting for?” she teases. The beat chugs in the background as synths play with Spears’ sex-kitten delivery of lines like “Watch me move/ When I lose, when I lose it hard/ Get you off with a touch/ Dancing in the dark. “See the sunlight/ We ain’t stopping/ Keep on dancing till the world ends/ If you feel it/ Let it happen/ Keep on dancing till the world ends,” she sings as the song breaks down, fading out for a brief moment (revealing her signature breathiness), and then coming back in as she repeats those final lines again to close the song. Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com , noting that it is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. “That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world,” she said. “You know, when you go out, and you’re having an amazing, magical night and you don’t want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends.” “Till the World Ends” is the second single from Femme Fatale , set to drop March 29. Its lead single, “Hold It Against Me,” was an equally club-friendly jam by Luke and Martin, who are overseeing production on the album. Single debuts at #1 and breaks Taylor Swift’s previous sales record. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” Photo: Jive Don’t hold it against her, but Britney Spears has a hit on her hands. Her new track, “Hold It Against Me,” which was released last week, topped the Billboard Digital Songs chart . The Dr.Luke/ Max Martin-produced song, the lead single from the singer’s yet-untitled March album, sold 411,000 downloads in its first week available for purchase. The debut also means that Spears broke a record. According to Billboard, that is Spears’ best sales week for a digital song as well as largest debut for a woman as a lead artist. Spears bumps Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” to #2; Wiz Khalifa moved up the chart to #3 with “Black and Yellow,” followed by Katy Perry’s “Firework,” which dropped two spots to #4. Other newcomers to the chart include Avril Lavigne’s “What the Hell” at #6 and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaboration, “H.A.M.,” at #10. Enrique Iglesias’ “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” (#5), the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit)” (#7), Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” (#8) and Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” (#9) round out the top 10.
