Celebrity Seeds: “Kids Rock” NYFW Event Puts Baller Babies And Offspring Of Radio And TV Stars In The Spotlight

Who are our famous family members? Wednesday night, the stars’ seeds got their chance to shine in a great charity event for kids that brought out the pride and joys of many of the NY Knicks, Yankees and a plethora of other entertainers. Here’s more about the event: The inaugural Kids Rock! runway show took place last night on September 11th, 2013 at Grand Central Terminal for New York Fashion Week 2014 and featured a bevy of celebrity offspring and children models walking the runway in looks from iconic brands, Levi’s®, Converse, Nike, Jordan and Nike SB. Hosted by NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, the Kid’s Rock! fashion show was dedicated to benefitting the Amar’e Stoudemire Foundation and nonprofit organization K.I.D.S. (Kids In Distressed Situations) to aid at-risk youth and children in need. Along with Amar’e Stoudemire’s children, Amar’e Jr., Assata and Ar’e, celebrity kids who walked the runway include: Carmelo and La La Anthony’s son Kiyan, Lil’ Jon’s son DJ Young Slade, Kelly Bensimon’s daughter Thaddeus Ann, Sherri Shepherd’s son Jeffrey Tarplay. Taking after his showbiz mom, Jeffrey was the life of the party as he danced down the runway and giving out high fives to the professional athletes in the front row. Derek Jeter’s nephew, the children of the New York Yankees’ CC Sabathia and Angie Martinez’s son Niko saluted the crowd to cheers. The children and nephew of Orange is the New Black star Dascha Polanco, and Shameless actress Emma Kenney also strutted down the runway. In attendance to root on the kid models and to support a good cause were: Carmelo and LaLa Anthony, Kelly Bensimon, Tyson and Kimberly Chandler, Patrick Toussaint, Po Johnson, Lil’ Jon, Jeannie Mai, Jill Martin, Angie Martinez, DJ Cassidy, Dascha Polanco, Amber Sabathia, and Sherri Shepherd. 10-year-old DJ Fulano, pint-sized deejay and style maven, spun the latest hits. Hair authority and owner of Cozy Cuts for Kids, Cozy Friedman, and her team styled the models as they sported the hottest looks of the season. Looks like a great event! Naomi and Iman clap back at the lack of black models in the fashion industry… Iman And Naomi Campbell Address Racism In The Modeling Industry The scarce presence of African-American men and women in today’s modeling industry has long been a topic of public discussion throughout the entertainment industry, but now two of the most influential, high profile black supermodels in the history of the industry are speaking up and speaking out. Iconic models Naomi Campbell and Iman recently voiced their dissatisfaction with the lack of representation of women of color in the modeling industries just as New York’s annual Fall Fashion Week gets underway. via Jezebel In what GMA is calling an “unprecedented” move, supermodels Iman, Naomi Campbell and Bethann Hardison are going after racism on the runway and publicly calling out the designers who fail to hire a diverse cast of models. While it’s not actually unprecedented — Jezebel’s own Jenna Sauers and Dodai Stewart have been calling out the fashion world on its whitewashing since 2008 — their actions and out-spokeness could have a profound and positive impact, especially considering that Iman and Naomi Campbell are two of the most powerful, high profile models in the business. “There were more black models working [in the ’70s] than there were in 2013,” Iman, on behalf of Diversity Coalition, told GMA’s Juju Chang. “There is a time when silence is not acceptable at all and if the conversation cannot be had publicly in our industry then inherently there is something wrong with the industry.” In an open letter to the CFDA, Diversity Coalition names Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Armani among the worst offenders.
