Lawsuits: Shady Cash Money Records Sued $600k By R&B Old Head Robert Pointdexter Over Bow Wow’s Illegal Sample

Is there anyone in the world that Cash Money hasn’t screwed over? Robert Poindexter Sues Cash Money Records Over Sample In Bow Wow Song According to TMZ reports : Lil Wayne and Birdman’s label Cash Money Records is in the hot seat over allegations it illegally used a sample from a 70s song in one of Bow Wow’s recent tracks. The septuagenarian behind the lawsuit is Robert Poindexter from the 70s band The Persuaders. Poindexter claims Cash Money sampled his band’s song “Love Gonna Pack Up (and Walk Out)” and illegally lifted the tune in Bow Wow’s 2010 track “Still Ballin.” As for “Love Gonna Pack Up (and Walk Out)” — the song was recorded in 1972 and reached the top of the charts … and Poindexter says neither Cash Money nor Bow Wow ever obtained permission to sample it. Just because Poindexter is up in age doesn’t mean he doesn’t want his gwap! Poindexter claims he reached out to Cash Money for an answer, and was redirected to Bow Wow’s attorneys, who then directed him back to Cash Money … which is why Cash Money’s currently in his crosshairs. Poindexter wants $600,000 in punitive damages, plus interest. Cash Money has yet to respond to the suit. We reached out to the label for comment — so far, no word back. Why can’t these gold-grillin’, lean-sippin’ azz ninja ever do square business? Hopefully Baby and Wayne won’t make Bow Wow pay the settlement out of his own pocket…because he ain’t got it Image via Derick G

Lawsuits: Houston Hip-Hop Mogul J.Prince Jr. Is Suing Drake’s Manager Cortez Bryant And Cash Money Records For A Cut Of That Young Moola!

For a label named Cash Money, they sure don’t like to pay muhfuggas… J.Prince Jr. Is Suing Cortez Bryant And Cash Money Records For Money Owed As Drake’s Management Houston’s J Prince Jr., son of Rap-A-Lot founder and CEO J Prince, is suing Drake’s management team for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty, in what totals 10 claims against Cortez Bryant and his business associates. According to documents filed today in New York State Supreme Court, J Prince, Jr. stated that he deserves a cut of the profits earned for introducing Drake to Lil’ Wayne and Cortez Bryant’s management team, Aspire. In the lawsuit, J Prince Jr. alleges that Bryant and Drake verbally agreed to pay J Prince Jr. a portion of the profits earned. Prince claims that Bryant verbally agreed to, “use their experience, influence, and relationships to persuade Drake into entering an exclusive recording agreement and an exclusive management agreement with the two of them and Bryant, and was to use his influence to compel Lil’ Wayne to sign and promote Drake to and through Lil’ Wayne’s record company YME, once Drake signed the agreements.” In addition, given J Prince, Sr’s relationship with Cash Money Records, the distributor of Young Money would “consult with them and take the lead on their business dealings with YME and CMR.” The lawsuit also claims that on December 10, 2008, Bryant signed Drake to an exclusive management agreement with his company and defendant Roberson’s companies, Laurent and Three Kings, and that Bryant signed Drake to an exclusive recording agreement with his company, Aspire. J Prince Jr. also claims that in or around April 2009, Bryant made J Prince aware of the signing and pledged to honor the original agreement. Hopefully J.Prince gets his bread. Seems that all the other folks that sued them for money owed won their cases…eventually. Images via SplashNews/Twitter Source

Making It Rain On Them Hoes: Forbes Magazine Announces The Top 5 Wealthiest Artists In Hip-Hop

Make this money, take this money, ain’t no way you gon’ take this from me… Must be muhfuggin nice! Forbes Magazine Announces The Five Wealthiest Men In Hip-Hop Back in 2007, Jay-Z, Diddy and 50 Cent released “I Get Money (The Forbes 1-2-3 Billionaire Remix).” The song was a celebration of the artists’ inclusion atop the first-ever Forbes Hip-Hop Cash Kings list, now an annual package on the genre’s top-earning artists. It seems fitting that those same three artists find themselves in an even more exclusive group—the Forbes Five, a short list of hip-hop’s wealthiest moguls. Indeed, the original trio boasts a combined net worth well over a billion dollars, rendering their lyrical prognostications accurate. They’re joined by Dr. Dre, flush with cash from his Beats headphone line, and Cash Money Records cofounder Bryan “Birdman” Williams. “One of my motivations in life is to be a billionaire,” said Birdman in a telephone interview with FORBES. “We’re going to keep working hard until we get our brand to be as big as possible. That’s the goal in life, that’s what I live for.” Hit the flip to see who landed where, and how much paper are they REALLY holding! Images via WENN Source

Lil Wayne Signs Four-Album Deal With Cash Money Records

‘I came into the game with Cash Money, and I’m gonna ride it out with my team,’ Wayne says on ‘Hip Hop POV.’ By Nadeska Alexis Lil Wayne Photo: C. Flanigan/ FilmMagic Cash Money Records plans to drop approximately 16 albums this year, and at least one of them will come from , who is currently working on two new LPs. But if there was any worry that Weezy would take his future projects elsewhere, the New Orleans rapper confirms that he recently signed another four-album deal with Cash Money. During an interview on the debut episode of MTV’s “Hip Hop POV,” Lil Wayne confirmed that he’s sticking with his team. “Everybody knows I came into the game at 11 years old with Cash Money Records, before we even had a major deal,” Wayne said. “We signed a deal in I don’t remember when, and I been with Cash Money ever since. So if you’re looking for integrity, I am the definition. If you’re looking for a person that’s gonna stay down, I am the definition. If you’re looking for loyalty, I am just that.” Despite a few tumultuous years, Wayne maintains that all is right in the world of YMCMB. “Trust me, there’s been a lot of ups and downs, a lot of downs — all the down way down if you wanna know,” he said. “But I rode it out with my team and I’m gonna ride it out with my team.” I Am Not a Human Being 2, the sequel to Wayne’s 2010 release, is the next project on the horizon, and he’s also at work on an album called Devol, which he wrote during his time in prison. According to Wayne, I Am Not a Human Being 2 will give him the most creative freedom. “Contract-wise, I only get paid for 12 songs. Maybe on a Carter album, you probably only gonna get 12 songs, maybe a bonus 13,” he explained “But on this I Am Not a Human Being thing, I really don’t care. … You’re probably gonna get 16 on there. “The I Am Not a Human Being 2 is more me just being creatively free,” he added. Lil Wayne dropped his most recent album, Tha Carter IV, last summer. By February the album had sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. Mystikal Says Mannie Fresh/ Birdman Rift Doesn’t Affect Him

While working on Original for Cash Money, Mystikal tells ‘RapFix Live,’ ‘What I do with Mannie is what I do with Mannie.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mystikal and Sway Photo: Natasha Chandel/ MTV News New Orleans has a rich hip-hop tradition, anchored mostly by Cash Money Records and Master P’s No limit label, which saw its heyday in the late ’90s and early ’00s. Mystikal is one of the few MCs who can claim a connection to both crews, but now that he is signed with Birdman what will become of his relationship with former Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh ? It’s no secret that the Cash Money CEO isn’t keen on working with his former Big Tymers groupmate, as he told XXLMag.com , but after his release from prison, Mystikal hit the studio with Fresh. “I did some hot tracks with him, when I first came home, like some mixtape kinda stuff. We just ain’t ever released it yet,” Mystikal said on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “Me and Mannie, we have about five under our belt right now, so I’m just tryin’a keep it movin’,” he continued. “I got what I need from KLC, the Beats by the Pound stuff. Lord, it’s gonna be an awesome album,” he said of his upcoming Original LP. In 2010, a viral video of Mystikal freestyling to a number of Fresh beats while the two sat in the producer’s car racked up thousands of views. “The amount of hits on that is nuts, because we were just sitting in the car vibing,” Fresh told MTV News of the video while at Bonnaroo last June. “I was just going through beats, and he was rapping on it, and I’m trying to convince him [that] I think that would be his mixtape.” A few of their collaborations — like “Move Something” and “Uh Oh” — have already made their way online. As far as the rift between the #1 Stunna and Fresh, Mystikal says that has nothing to do with him. He also maintains that he is able to separate his business from the personal. “What I do with Mannie is what I do with Mannie, what I do with my company is with the company,” he said.
