‘Harry Potter’ Stars Impressed By Theme Park’s ‘Total Immersion’ Experience

‘It’s not even odd,’ Daniel Radcliffe says of seeing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. By Terri Schwartz The cast of “Harry Potter” at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opening Wednesday Photo: Gustavo Caballero/ Getty Images ORLANDO, Florida — Magic was seemingly everywhere on Wednesday night, at Universal Orlando’s grand opening celebration for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter . The theme park doesn’t officially open to the public until June 18, but Universal brought in the stars of the film and conductor/composer John Williams to kick things off with a bang. Though many of the stars of the “Harry Potter” films have come to see the park over the past several months, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, James and Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Matthew Lewis and Warwick Davis were given a special tour of Wizarding World’s many attractions on Wednesday so they would be primed to speak about them. “It’s not even odd,” Radcliffe said about seeing the world he spent the past decade working on in film represented as a real place in hot and humid Orlando. “It’s absolutely fantastic. I couldn’t be more impressed.” There was some debate amongst them as to which of the three rides in Wizarding World was the best. Radcliffe and Grint said the twin roller coasters in Dragon Challenge were their favorite, while Lewis, Wright and the Phelps loved Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey . And there was an even divide over which was better: regular or frozen Butterbeer . The stars seemed most impressed by the amount of detail making Hogwarts and Hogsmeade come to life, creating an experience they couldn’t even have on the movie set. “It’s just total immersion into the world,” Lewis said. “In 100 years, it’s still going to be here. It’s a little weird for me.” “It’s kind of the beginning and ending. It’s kind of surreal,” Wright said of the park’s opening coinciding with the end of filming of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” earlier this week. “All the little memories we have, now other people can have them as well.” The actors said they loved the rides, which include two roller coasters (Flight of the Hippogriffs and Dragon Challenge) and a visual experience (Forbidden Journey). It was the first roller-coaster ride for Davis. Grint shared that his coaster-riding technique was to hold on for dear life, while Felton said that he keeps his hands in the air, screaming for his life. Radcliffe had a very specific procedure: Make sure the harness is extra tight; try to keep his eyes open for as long as possible, and make the longest, most prolonged scream possible. When he gets off, his experience isn’t complete unless all his hair is swept to one side. Though she did not speak to the press and was kept well hidden at the event, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling did make an appearance at the grand opening. Williams conducted the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in a special presentation of the various themes he had written for the “Harry Potter” film series. In the end, the stars seemed to think Universal had left no magical stone unturned in the creation of the Wizarding World. All of them, that is, except Warwick Davis. When asked what he thinks Universal should add to the park, he responded, “Something involving Professor Flitwick. Or Griphook the goblin, perhaps.” Are you planning to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Tell us what you’re excited to see in the comments. Christina Aguilera To Sing At NBA Finals Tonight

Singer will perform the national anthem for the second time during the NBA basketball championship series. By Mawuse Ziegbe Christina Aguilera performs the national anthem before game six of the NBA finals on Tuesday Photo: Christian Petersen/Getty Images Christina Aguilera is once again using her formidable pipes to grace the NBA finals: The singer will belt out a rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at tonight’s seventh and final game of the series. The singer, whose latest album Bionic recently debuted at #3 , on the Billboard albums chart, sang at Game 6 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Tuesday (June 15) before the Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics and tied the series. The Lakers — who have lost their last four game-seven matchups to the Celtics — are apparently hoping Aguilera will bring them similar good luck tonight. The singer may be hoping that the Lakers are a good luck charm for her, as she’s had a some rough luck over the past few weeks . Bionic ‘s first-week sales were softer than expected, she recently postponed her tour until next year, and the response to her sexed-up video for the album’s first single, “Not Myself Tonight,” has been mixed. “I don’t know if it’s because she went away for a while, or because she tried to do something different with this project, but it feels a little crass and calculated,” Entertainment Weekly ‘s Leah Greenblatt told MTV News. “From her choice of collaborators [The-Dream, Polow Da Don, Le Tigre] to her first single, it doesn’t feel fully organic. What’s missing so much with her this time out is that, while she can still sing the crap out of her songs, you don’t get a sense of vulnerability, or even really know who she is.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Christina Aguilera Related Artists Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera: What Should Her Next Move Be?

After soft first-week sales for Bionic, experts weigh in. By James Montgomery Photo: Ronald Martinez/ Getty Images Between the unexpectedly soft first-week sales for her comeback album, Bionic, constant criticism from Perez Hilton and a barrage of Lady Gaga comparisons , it hasn’t been an easy few weeks for Christina Aguilera. While the negative press is nothing new (remember the public outcry over her explicit “Dirrty” video? ), the less-than-stellar album sales, controversy over her sexed-up “Not Myself Tonight” video and the recent postponement of her tour are not adding up well. So what should she do next? We decided to pose the question to some experts, all of whom seem to agree that Aguilera has bucketloads of talent — but also has her work cut out for her. “She’s still under 30, she still has a fantastic voice, but I think her time has passed. I don’t know if it’s because she went away for a while, or because she tried to do something different with this project, but it feels a little crass and calculated,” Entertainment Weekly music critic Leah Greenblatt said. “From her choice of collaborators [The-Dream, Polow Da Don, Le Tigre] to her first single, it doesn’t feel fully organic. What’s missing so much with her this time out is that, while she can still sing the crap out of her songs, you don’t get a sense of vulnerability, or even really know who she is.” “She just seems a little confused, and that’s not like her, and it’s not what we want from her,” Julianne Shepherd, executive editor of The Fader magazine, added. “The image she’s been projecting, she just doesn’t seem comfortable doing it. She’s always done vamping, but now it’s like ‘I’m wearing these insane PVC outfits and singing to this music that I don’t relate to.’ No matter what she says, I don’t see her sitting around listening to old trance records.” Both agreed that Aguilera should essentially do her — focus on putting out the kind of songs that showcase her strengths — and stop chasing her competitors. “I think honestly, she’s trying to be a little too Gaga, and it’s not working for her,” Shepherd said. “She’s such a talented singer that she doesn’t need to do what everyone else is doing. It just seems too forced and too in the mold of the Gagas and the Rihannas of the world.” “She’s very much into the concept of ‘the future’ on this album, but the first single doesn’t sound like the future: It sounds like a song they’d play in a spin class, circa 1998,” Greenblatt said. “When you look at the other girls on the pop charts, it doesn’t feel fresh. It’s not compelling enough to pull herself away from the field. If you look at something like Katy Perry’s ‘California Gurls,’ it’s a retro song, but it’s fun. There’s a heaviness to the Christina album. She may say she’s having fun, but you don’t believe her.” Both Greenblatt and Shepherd singled out the M.I.A. collaboration “Elastic Love” as a potential game-changer, a song that perhaps best sums up whatever it was Aguilera was hoping to achieve on Bionic, and one that might reinvigorate a public that’s grown tired of more of the same old pop. And both added that Christina should get back to basics (the title of her last album, as it happens), or maybe line up a new collaboration or two. “She’s got to re-calibrate her image, like do a fun video that treats sexuality as a garnish, not the entire meal,” Greenblatt said. “If she reins herself in and releases the right single, things might be OK. There are plenty of artists who hit it big with the second, third single, and she’s definitely big enough for that to happen here. People want her to succeed, she just needs to give us an iteration of herself that people like.” “I think that, maybe if she steps back a bit, tries to ease our of where she’s going, and trusts herself more, she will probably be okay. I think it’s just a bump in the road,” Shepherd added. “Or maybe she should collaborate with all of Young Money. That would probably work too.” What do you think Christina Aguilera’s next move should be? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Christina Aguilera

Jon Gosselin: Stoned Out of His Mind

This isn’t breaking news at all, but it is hilarious: A video of Jon Gosselin stoned last summer with then-girlfriend Hailey Glassman has just leaked online. If you recall, the two just started dating and were vacationing in St. Tropez, France, with Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier. Looks like they had fun. An insider tells Radar Online , the king of exclusive non-stories, that they smoked spliffs (marijuana and tobacco mixed) and were drunk on champagne. Jon Gosselin, who was still married to Kate then, took turns with Hailey Glassman filming each other, making cracks about the French and lactose issues. The trip marked Jon and Hailey’s first public appearance together. When Glassman references her curly hair during a salon mishap she experienced in St. Tropez, Jon interrupts with: “It looked like big Jewish pubes.” Class . At one point, Jon, with a cigarette up his nose, says: “This is how the French smoke. They smoke so much they put cigarettes in every orifice of their body.” While there is no paraphernalia or anything, and it certainly matters little if they were actually stoned, their behavior would certainly suggest that it’s true. Christina Aguilera Gets Steamy At 2010 MTV Movie Awards

Singer heats up stage with medley of songs from forthcoming Bionic LP. By James Montgomery Christina Aguilera performs at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Christopher Polk/Getty Images Christina Aguilera got futuristic, funky and downright freaky at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, performing a supercharged medley of songs from her forthcoming Bionic album — which comes out Tuesday — that hit hard and probably got millions of people all hot and bothered. She kicked things off sitting down in a gilded throne, decked out in a diamond-encrusted one-piece, looking very much like a 23rd-century queen, and began rapping the opening lines of the title track from her album. She then descended to the stage and, surrounded by a crew of leather-clad dancers began throwing punches while laser blasts resounded through the audience (bonus points for the Iron Man-esque light pods she wore on the palms of her hands.) After a bit more strutting, Aguilera’s dancers surrounded her, and the electronic thump of first single “Not Myself Tonight” blared loud and proud. As steam poured from the stage, Xtina belted out the chorus, getting low and singing for the rafters. “Tonight” segued directly into “Woohoo,” minus Nikki Minaj on this night. But that didn’t stop Christina from upping the heat even more, breaking into a seriously sexy dance number that was made only more hot by the fact that her dancers were now wearing glowing red hearts on their crotches. Not to be outdone, Agulera ended things by standing tall at center stage, the camera zooming in on her midsection, which now bore a beating heart of its own. The celeb-packed audience roared their approval, and Aguilera bounded off the stage — presumably to go take a nice long, cold shower. Christina Aguilera Postpones Summer Tour

Singer has pushed dates back to 2011 to concentrate on promoting Bionic. By Gil Kaufman Christina Aguilera Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images You’re going to have to wait until next year to see Christina Aguilera live. The singer announced on Monday that she was calling off plans for an already announced summer tour to promote her upcoming Bionic album and pushing the dates back to an unspecified time in 2011. Citing a busy schedule that includes her involvement in the film “Burlesque” (in theaters this November) and promotional duties for the June 8 release of her new album, Bionic — which leaked onto the Internet on Monday — Aguilera’s camp issued a statement about the postponement. “The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour dates this wasn’t possible,” it reads. New dates for the tour are expected later this year. A spokesperson for tour promoter Live Nation could not be reached for additional comment at press time. The tour was slated to kick off on July 15 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, and wrap up on August 19 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, California, and was to feature opening act Leona Lewis. The singer’s first new album since 2006’s Back to Basics has gotten off to a modest start, with first single “Not Myself Tonight” peaking at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The accompanying transgressive video has stirred up controversy due to claims by Lady Gaga supporters that it borrows some of the reigning pop diva’s signature moves. Your best chance to see Aguilera in the meantime is to tune in to Wednesday night’s “American Idol” finale and the June 6 MTV Movie Awards , where she is also scheduled to perform. Christina Aguilera Defends ‘Not Myself Tonight’ Video

‘I never claimed to be a cookie-cutter soccer mom,’ singer says. By James Montgomery Christina Aguilera in her video for “Not Myself Tonight” Photo: RCA Christina Aguilera ‘s brand-new “Not Myself Tonight” video is certainly jaw-dropping, a three-minute run of barely-there outfits, extended S&M-inspired sequences and a whole lot of guy-on-girl groping. But in an interview with “Access Hollywood,” Aguilera defended the clip, saying that it shows off her wild side, which she’s not shying away from just because she’s a mother. “Mama still has to be me,” she said. “I never claimed to be a cookie-cutter soccer mom. That’s all good for some people. Not for me.” Aguilera — who, in previous interviews, has cited her two-year-old son, Max, as an inspiration for the songs on her upcoming Bionic album — said that she doesn’t think the video is inappropriate, and added that just because she’s a mother, it doesn’t mean that she’s not also an artist, one who deals honestly and frankly with the subject of sexuality. “[Max] is going to grow up in a household where he knows mommy expresses herself artistically and some of that will have to reflect itself sexually too, at times,” she said. “He’s going to learn to respect the fact that women are allowed to express themselves and not feel shameful about their bodies or their sexuality.” She added that while Max is already a fan of the songs on Bionic (which is due June 4), he’s not shy about expressing his allegiance to another of his mother’s pop contemporaries. “He’s really into Rihanna,” Aguilera said. “And he does say ‘Put in mama’s song! Put in mama’s song!’ And then he goes, ‘Go cazy! Go cazy!’ It’s so cute.” Related Photos Christina Aguilera’s ‘Not Myself Tonight’ Video Pop-Culture Cheat Sheet Photos Related Artists Christina Aguilera
