Christina Aguilera’s Fans Weigh In On ‘Not Myself Tonight Video’

‘Christina is a pop-cultural reflection of the world,’ one fan says. By Eric Ditzian Christina Aguilera in her video for “Not Myself Tonight” Photo: RCA Christina Aguilera is back, and she didn’t bring a whole lot of clothing with her. The star’s “Not Myself Tonight” video showcases the 29-year-old singer in one revealing outfit after another — a chain-mail bikini, a see-through raincoat, some red lingerie — in a pop-culture mashup that pays tribute to Madonna, Michael Jackson and others. It’s quite a rebirth for Aguilera as she gets set to unleash Bionic , her first studio album since 2006. And, on an otherwise sleepy Friday afternoon, the video has been burning up the Web. “I just love it,” says MTV reader dvnovert. “Christina is a pop-cultural reflection of the world. She breathes in culture just like all of us, but expels [it in] a deliciously fresh and exciting and superior way to all that have come before and all who have come since. Christina is the one to beat: beauty, brains, rhythm, voice and charisma to boot!” Many fans have noted similarities between the video and recent efforts from Lady Gaga. Reader Mark Anthony Sanchez, for one, views Aguilera as the true artistic trailblazer. “I love the direction she is taking her music,” he writes. “Since her start she was doing her own thing and not caring what anybody says. This woman has been around 10-plus years and for anybody to pin her against Gaga is seriously dumb. They are their own person and do their own thing.” MTV reader Rbearcuub agrees, writing, “You cannot even compare them. What do they have in common? Music! Gaga at least sings, unlike [Britney] Spears in concert. But she has her lane and Xtina has her own damn highway.” Comparisons aside, some folks simply weren’t digging the video. “Christina used to give videos that were fresh and edgy with meaning and integrity,” wrote reader Ericstar. “This oversexed video reveals a huge awareness among her people that she is now competing on the same platform as Gaga. The video lacks depth and does no more than try to prove that Christina is more advanced than the new top female in her arena. She’s relying strictly on fetish to do it. If Christina disagrees with the comparisons and feels like Gaga has borrowed one too many pages from her book, she ought to be confident enough to challenge herself and step out in a new direction.” But as most fans realize, that’s exactly what she already is doing. “I think what Christina did was amazing,” reader Marco wrote. “I love her video and I can’t wait to have Bionic . You rock Christina, you are the best.” What do you think of Christina’s new video? Let us know in the comments below! Christina Aguilera Is Madonna 20 Years Ago But Much Hotter

I don’t know if by stealing all of Madonna’s old video ideas for her Not Myself Tonight video, Christina Aguilera is paying homage to the pop icon or if she’s just completely ripping her off, I’m not an expert when it comes to these kinds of things. Not that I really care, Xtina is much hotter than Madonna ever was so watching her dance around in lingerie and make out with chicks is fine by me. Enjoy. Lady Gaga Pre-Tapes ‘American Idol’ Performance

‘You’re my little monsters, and you’re the reason we all work so hard for our dreams,’ Gaga said from the stage at the Nokia Theatre. By Eric Ditzian Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevork Djansezian/ Getty Images While the viewing public tuning in to “American Idol” on Wednesday night caught Siobhan Magnus getting the ol’ heave-ho and Rascal Flatts, Shakira and Lady Antebellum taking the stage, one performance at the Nokia Theatre didn’t make it on to the small screen: Lady Gaga’s . After Wednesday evening’s elimination show wrapped, Gaga took over the Nokia to pre-tape an “Idol” performance set to air at a later date. But audience members were still holding steady in their seats, and many have since committed their thoughts and reporting to the Web (stop reading now if you want to experience the Gaga-tude spoiler-free whenever the perf hits the airwaves). By all accounts, it was a predictably massive undertaking, requiring an hour to re-set the stage, the introduction of a giant fire-spewing angel and three full performances of a “Bad Romance”/”Alejandro” medley. “I just want to say thank you,” Gaga told the crowd before launching into the number a third time, according to a write-up on EW.com’s PopWatch blog. “You’re my little monsters, and you’re the reason we all work so hard for our dreams.” The taping got started directly after the end of the live show. The “Idol” crew wheeled on that huge metallic angel, two black metal trees and a few park benches built of bloody razor blades. “[T]he entire set looked like the S&M version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ meets the cemetery scene from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ populated by half-naked nymphs from ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ ” reported Zap2It.com . The first run-through was Gaga-free — just the band and her backup dancers. Gaga joined in for the second go. “There were eight hard-bodied male dancers scantily clad in what looked to be black Spanx — each guy wore a black glove as well,

Christina Aguilera Is Bringing Xtina Back!

Remember the good old days when Christina Aguilera was know as Xtina and her videos consisted of her running around some underground boxing facility dry humping a lot of sweaty dudes and even a few sweaty chicks? Well those days seem to be back for her latest video for Not Myself Tonight . I watched it with the sound off so I have no idea if the song is any good, but I like that Xtina has dropped the boring new mom in sensible shoes look even if it is just for a moment. Boners for everyone. Enjoy. Christina Aguilera’s Bionic Due June 8

New single, ‘Not Myself Tonight,’ to premiere on singer’s Web site Tuesday. By James Dinh Christina Aguilera’s Bionic Photo: RCA It’s been three-and-a-half years since Christina Aguilera released Back to Basics, her last full album of new material, but the singer is finally ready to hit the music scene again. Over the past few years, she’s remained busy raising her son Max and wrapping up production on her film debut “Burlesque,” but on Thursday (March 25) she announced that her fourth studio album, Bionic, will drop on June 8, and its first single, “Not Myself Tonight,” will premiere at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday on ChristinaAguilera.com and will be available on iTunes on April 13. “Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience,” she said in a press release. “The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic,” she said of her collaborators, which include Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Linda Perry, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch and Ladytron, among others. “Not Myself Tonight” was produced by Polow Da Don and an early preview may be in the works, as an empty media player is on her Web site and asks fans to come back on Friday “for an exclusive preview.” Earlier this week, the song’s single artwork and lyrics were posted on Aguilera’s site; the lyrics suggest a re-emergence of the singer’s raunchy side that she flaunted during on 2002’s Stripped : “The old me’s gone I feel brand new/ And if you don’t like it, f– you.” Fans got an early glimpse of the singer’s new material when she debuted “Lift Me Up” during “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon in late January. The ballad, which was produced and written by Perry, will also be included on the album. Aguilera, whose work has spanned pop and throwback R&B in the past, suggested that yet more styles are featured on Bionic. “I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect,” she said. In addition to the release, the image of what appears to be the cover of Bionic was posted on her site. With her hair slicked back, a head shot of a robotic Aguilera is shown with the right side of her face revealing the mechanics of several musical instruments leading down to her neck with an opened, silver chokehold. Back in January, the singer spoke about the “futuristic” LP to Marie Claire, admitting that “maybe I’ve been afraid in the past to allow myself to go to a place of ‘less singing.’ ” On the new album, “I’m more vulnerable and more strong at the same time.” Are you excited for Christina’s new CD?
