Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen Back For ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’

Prepare for a double dose of mutant powers: The X-Men of the past and future will collide in Bryan Singer ‘s forthcoming sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past , which will bring Patrick Stewart ‘s Professor X and Ian McKellen ‘s Magneto together with their X-Men: First Class counterparts James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in the same film, Singer announced today. I’d like to officially welcome back James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, & Nicholas Hoult to #XMEN for #DaysOfFuturePast — Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) November 27, 2012 Thrilled to announce @ ianmckellen118 & @ sirpatstew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come… — Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) November 27, 2012 This should be exciting for X-Men fans, who’ve seen the comic book franchise flit around timelines and younger/older versions of the same characters since Singer’s X-Men spawned a film universe of spin-offs and standalone superhero pics. This synopsis for X-Men: Days of Future Past explains how two Professor Xs and Magnetos can co-exist in the same film (via The Film Stage ): The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. It’s a familiar tale to fans of the X-Men comic; the dystopian alternate future saga of Days of Future Past was a hugely popular storyline, adapted memorably in the animated X-Men series in episodes featuring the time-traveling Bishop. The original comic storyline featured Kitty Pryde in the pivotal time-traveling role; is it too much to hope for Ellen Page reprising her X3 character to bring the entire X-Men film franchise full circle? (Probably.) X-Men: Days of Future Past is being scripted by Simon Kinberg, aiming for a July 18, 2014 release — excited, X-fans? Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Amber Portwood: Out of Jail, Into Grandma’s House

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood just got out of jail free … mostly. On Friday, the MTV reality train wreck was released from jail , but instead of heading to a halfway house after leaving the Madison County (Ind.) correctional facility, she’s already settling in at another house … her maternal grandmother’s. “Amber is all taken care of [and] getting settled in,” says her mom , Tonya. Last week, after the halfway house denied Amber, her mom told us that she was “happy and relieved that she [wouldn’t] have to live in a halfway house.” “Now she will get to spend more time with her daughter, which is what this was all about anyway,” Tonya said. A bonus of the new living arrangement? Filming of Teen Mom is still a go! Though she is still required to attend rehab at Sister 2 Sister Ministries, in Anderson, Ind., production can proceed with her living at grandma’s place. Filming was banned at Sister 2 Sister, where Amber Portwood was set to live upon her release before the residence wanted no part of it. So it’s win-win? Possibly. After completing eight months of rehab, she’s required to get a real full-time job, i.e., one that doesn’t involve reality-show cameras. Not to mention, if she violates her strict probation in any way, she faces a maximum of five years in prison on her felony drug-possession charge. That seems inevitable to skeptics, but for now, Amber’s mom says she and her daughter are “so happy she’s home and around family who love her deeply.” Will Amber end up back in jail?

Jennifer Lawrence on Kristen Stewart’s Life: No Thanks!

With the March 23 release of The Hunger Games – a film that has set box office records for advanced ticket sales – Jennifer Lawrence is about to become a global sensation. But don’t tell that to the actress. “I look at Kristen Stewart now and I think, ‘I’d never want to be that famous,'” Lawrence tells the latest issue of Glamour UK . “”I can’t imagine how I’d feel if all of a sudden my life was pandemonium.” With such anticipation for The Hunger Games , though, and with two more films in the franchise beyond that, Lawrence – and British boyfriend Nicholas Hoult – should prepare for a paparazzi onslaught. Not that the actress is really causing a stink. “In some ways, it’s a hard life, but it’s a great professional life,” she says. “I’m doing what I love, and then I get months and months of rest. I have a lot of money for a 21-year-old. I can’t stand it when actors complain.” Amen, Jennifer.

Bin Laden Movie Remains Top-Secret, Joel Edgerton Says

The actor also spoke with MTV News about the ‘very subtle’ use of 3-D in ‘The Great Gatsby.’ By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Joel Edgerton Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Joel Edgerton could tell you about Kathryn Bigelow ‘s untitled Osama Bin Laden movie, but then he’d have to kill you. OK, perhaps it’s not as dramatic as all of that. Still, the “Wish You Were Here” actor spoke briefly with MTV News about starring in the Navy Seal thriller alongside Chris Pratt and Jessica Chastain , and while he’s “very excited” to start shooting the film, his lips are sealed on the top-secret op. “I can’t really tell you anything about it,” he told MTV during the Sundance Film Festival . “I don’t know that I can’t tell you anything about it, but I’d be very ill informed to talk about it at this point. But I’m just excited to work with all of those guys.” Edgerton was much more inclined to talk about “The Great Gatsby,” Baz Luhrmann ‘s upcoming adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic. The Australian actor, who stars in “Gatsby” as drunken socialite Tom Buchanan, spoke at length about Luhrmann’s “very subtle” use of 3-D in the film. “3-D is absolutely the right thing for [the film],” said Edgerton. “I’ve seen sections of the movie and it sort of invites you in. It’s not like spectacle 3-D; you’re not being confronted by things blowing at your head. But it invites you in. What it does psychologically is very interesting, and I think you’ll forget you’re watching 3-D.” “Also, it’s lavish,” he continued. “That era was so lavish. The ’20s was about excess, so why not add a bit of excess to the filmmaking as well?” For those who remain skeptical of the use of 3-D in “Gatsby,” Edgerton expects negative opinions to change when the movie is released this December. “Baz knows absolutely everything he’s doing,” he said. “I’m really excited for all the people [groaning] about 3-D to see the movie. I hope everybody is crossing their arms and frowning to begin with, because I think they’ll unfurl by the time they see it.” What do you think of the use of 3-D in “The Great Gatsby”? Nicholas Hoult Is ‘Beautiful’ In ‘Warm Bodies’

Teresa Palmer gushed to MTV News about her co-star’s zombie performance. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Teresa Palmer and Joel Edgerton Photo: MTV News If Hollywood can turn vampires and werewolves into sex icons, what’s keeping zombies from entering that same sexy stratosphere? Well, there’s the whole feasting-on-human-flesh thing to consider, we suppose, not to mention the endless groaning and decaying to boot. Despite their brain-craving reputation, the walking dead are about to undergo a serious makeover in “Warm Bodies,” director Jonathan Levine’s adaptation of the Isaac Marion novel set in a post-apocalyptic world where a zombie named R (played by “X-Men: First Class” actor Nicholas Hoult ) inexplicably falls in love with Julie Grigio, whose father is a general in the dwindling human resistance. Teresa Palmer , who plays Julie, spoke with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival about her work on “Warm Bodies” and why she can’t wait to fall in love with a zombie on the big screen. “I’m just excited to see how Nicholas Hoult comes across on the screen,” said Palmer, who’s attending Sundance to support her drama “Wish You Were Here.” “He was so beautiful to work with. He does such an incredible performance. He’s playing a zombie, so he can’t say much, but he’s very expressive with his eyes.” It’s not just Hoult’s “beautiful” zombie performance that Palmer fell in love with, but the “Warm Zombies” universe as a whole. “The world that Jonathan Levine has set up is so epic and so interesting,” she said. “It’s always very cool when Jonathan Levine does something. I’m really excited to see it.” Are you excited to see zombie love story “Warm Bodies”? Let us know in the comments. Kobe Bryant Recalls Fast-Food Trips On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Cafeteria pizza ain’t gonna cut it,’ NBA great says on latest episode, premiering Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kobe Bryant on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV Sure, Kobe Bryant was already scoring acclaim for his basketball prowess as a high-schooler, but when he was off the court, he was just another teen tired of lame cafeteria food. On the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” premiering Saturday at 11 a.m. ET, the NBA superstar recalls skipping class to stock up on some tasty eats. “I had taken the bulk of my classes my first three years. So my senior year was a pretty easy year. Every day was senior cut day,” he says. “We used to just talk in between breaks or in between periods. [We’d just say] ‘You hungry?’ ‘Yeah, I’m hungry. Let’s roll, let’s go.’ ” His friend Jermaine explained that they weren’t hooligans; they just spent their free time on the hunt for junk food. “We didn’t have anything else on the agenda. When we left, we just went to get food,” he says. Bryant added he and his crew would split immediately once the hunger pangs set in, saying, “They wouldn’t see us no more.” “I was starving. I mean, c’mon, I was a buck-20. I needed to eat something. Cafeteria pizza ain’t gonna cut it. It’s just, like, prison food,” he says. “We used to go to McDonald’s, Taco Bell.” Jermaine adds, “When Kobe and I would skip school, you know, we were smooth.” Besides chowing down on whatever Dollar Menu items their heart desired, ditching class had an additional allure: “Think of how cool you are that you’re not at school and everybody else is,” Bryant smiles. “That’s pretty much it.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Kobe Bryant, Brooklyn Decker and Candice Accola — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. ‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailer: Professor X And Magneto, The Way They Were

First trailer also offers brief intros to Emma Frost, Beast, Mystique and more X-Men. By Eric Ditzian and Kara Warner James McAvoy in “X-Men: First Class” Photo: 20th Century Fox We all know where this is going: Professor X and Magneto will one day be the deepest enemies. How they get to that point is the story told in “X-Men: First Class,” and if the first trailer is any indication, how they get there is going to be totally badass. This is an origin tale, after all, as the trailer makes clear. The footage begins with an appropriately edgy, slow-building score in the background, then a shot of Professor X’s office, with his empty wheelchair in the foreground. The words “Before he was Professor X” appear over a shot of what looks like Patrick Stewart as X, hooked up to Cerebro, then, continuing the first phrase, the words “He was Charles” are shown over a shot of James McAvoy as our young Chuck Xavier. The next sequence opens with “Before he was Magneto” over shots from previous “X-Men” films and Ian McKellan wearing the famous helmet and cape, then “He was Erik” over a clip of serious/brooding Michael Fassbender as young Erik Lehnsherr. Cut to Marvel’s recognizable movie insignia, the shuffling comic book pages with the logo, followed by McAvoy’s Xavier and Fassbender’s Lehnsherr walking together in a prison. The next clip shows the famous “School for the Gifted,” with the words of JFK speaking to the Cuban Missile Crisis in the background and the rest of the cast/X-Men crowded around the television listening to Kennedy’s televised address. Next up we get brief character intros, with JFK’s words — “The cost of freedom is always high” — still echoing in voice-over as Emma Frost (January Jones), Angel Salvadore (Zoe Kravitz), Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Alex Summers/Havok (Lucas Till), Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne) and saucy shape-shifter Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) all flash in succession onscreen. The last half of the 1:51 spot kicks up the action, with shots of fighter jets (Beast in the cockpit!), missiles launching, young mutants learning how to use their powers to fight and Lehnsherr taking hold of the famous helmet and stepping into the black-and-red suit of Magneto, followed by stern words from Xavier. “Listen to me very carefully, my friend,” Xavier says to Lehnsherr/Magneto. “Killing will not bring you peace.” “Peace was never an option,” he responds, which is followed by quick teases of some of the big action scenes, including one where Lehnsherr is pulling a submarine out of the water and into the air. The last thing we see is a revamped and slightly imposing logo for “Xavier’s School for the Gifted Youngsters,” First Class, followed by the June 3 release date. Taylor Swift’s ‘Back To December’ Video Director Explains Clip

‘I wanted [Taylor] to perform a very natural way, to make her look very European,’ says Yoann Lemoine. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift in “Back to December” Photo: Big Machine Records In her video for “Back to December,” Taylor Swift finds herself and her home covered in snow while she contemplates the best way to apologize to her former beau, played by model Guntars Asmanis , for breaking his heart. Director Yoann Lemoine tells MTV News that he had a certain aesthetic he wanted to capture for the chilly clip, which was shot partly in Nashville (for Swift’s scenes) and Upstate New York (for Asmanis’ scenes) in December. “I wanted the video to be very simple and metaphorical at the same time,” the Frenchman explained. “I wanted to work on the coldness of feelings in a very visual way, playing with the snow, the distance and sadness. [Taylor] really liked it. The winter theme was very interesting to me — the snow, the ice. I even wanted the guy to go swim in frozen lakes at some point. It was not possible, but I wanted to translate how you feel sometime when your heart is broken. The snow in the apartment is supposed to show how connected she is to him. He is outside, in the cold, but somehow she is connected to him.” Swift pretty much let Lemoine have control over the clip’s look and feel, although it was her idea to have her character leave the letter for her beloved. As for Swift’s look in the video, Lemoine says he was focused on making sure that it all felt real and that she came off as accessible. “I have been going through a lot of videos and pictures of her on the Internet trying to find the best angle and style for her. I wanted people to feel like they would get to know her very intimately, and really trust in what she was saying,” he explained. “I wanted her to perform a very natural way, to make her look very European. This was the main challenge to me. All of Taylor’s world is very far away from my culture, but I saw something in her that could be very rough and heartbreaking; far from the princess glittery outfits and glam that she often goes for.” As for Asmanis, the duo agreed that he was the perfect fit for the part. “I wanted a boy that was fragile and beautiful. I didn’t want to go for a hunk or a perfect cheesy boy that would have killed the sincerity of the video,” Lemoine said. “I just imagined a face that would enhance the fragility of the video. We did cast a couple of boys and both Taylor and I loved Guntars.” Related Artists Taylor Swift

‘Skins’ Stars’ Parents Are ‘Cool’ With Show’s Racy Material

‘She understands the heart of the show,’ Ron Mustafaa says of his mom’s reaction to the show. By Jocelyn Vena Skins” cast member Camille Cresencia-Mills Photo: MTV News Given all the sex and drugs on “Skins,” which premiered Monday night on MTV, one might think that its young stars would have a lot of explaining to do with their parents. While it all takes place in the fictional realm of the show, one of the show’s actors admits that it has lead to some awkward talks with his mom. “My mom is like really cool, but she’s, like, really Indian,” Ron Mustafaa, who plays Abbud, laughed to MTV News about the show’s racy subject matter. “She’s not really accustomed to a lot of the crazy stuff on American television. She’s really cool with it because she understands the heart of the show … growing up and finding out who you are, but at times I have some weird convos with my mom about filming certain sequences … [but] it’s all tastefully done.” Some “Skins” cast said they watched the U.K. version with their parents, so the show’s themes were nothing new. “For the most part, our parents are really just proud of us,” Sofia Black-D’Elia (Tea) said. “So, maybe we do some crazy things on the show, maybe they’re going to watch us take lots of fake drugs, but at the end of the day, they’re also seeing us work our butts off, and do everything that we really wanted to do with this career. So far, my parents are personally so proud of me.” After seeing British “Skins” stars like Dev Patel and Nicholas Hoult go on to bigger things after the show, is the new cast ready for fame and fortune? “I think it’s one of those things where they had success afterwards because of their talents and because of what they were able to do,” James Newman (Tony) said of the U.K. version’s stars. “I don’t think it has that much to do with us in that we’re trying to play our roles. Whatever happens after that has to do with us. We’re all so excited about this show we’re not really thinking about what’s coming afterwards.” “I was just gonna say were trying to just concentrate on sleeping and getting some rest,” D’Elia added. “I’m proud of all of us after everything we’ve accomplished, and I think the aftermath doesn’t worry us right now. … Right now, more than anything, we’re excited to see the show.” Watch “Skins” on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
