What Was the Most Pirated Movie of 2011?

This past October, we looked long and hard briefly at the most pirated films of all time — a fairly predictable list that included blockbuster titles like Avatar , The Dark Knight and Transformers . Today, TorrentFreak has released a more current snapshot of the movie-stealing industry: A list of the top ten pirated films this year. Surprisingly, there are a few films on this list that you probably paid to see. Courtesy of TorrentFreak, the top five stolen titles of the year are… Fast Five (9,260,000 downloads) The Hangover II (8,840,000 downloads) Thor (8,330,000 downloads) Source Code (7,910,000 downloads) I Am Number Four (7,670,000 downloads) The first five films grossed over $100 million worldwide each and nearly $2 billion worldwide together. Head on over to TorrentFreak to see the complete list, which surprisingly includes one Oscar winner and one Oscar nominee. [via TorrentFreak ]

Robert Pattinson Has ‘An Edge’ In ‘Cosmopolis’

‘He did some really excellent work that I think he should be very proud of,’ co-star Kevin Durand tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon in “Cosmopolis” Photo: Caitlin Cronenberg’s Twitter Although most of Robert Pattinson’s fans are totally focused on November 18 — a.k.a. the release date for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” — the heartthrob has another equally buzzworthy film headed into theaters in 2012: the dark, postmodern drama “Cosmopolis.” The film, adapted by screenwriter and director David Cronenberg from Don DeLillo’s novel, revolves around a day in the life of hotheaded asset manager Eric Packer (Pattinson) with most of the plot’s action taking place in a limo. MTV News caught up with “Cosmopolis” co-star Kevin Durand at the premiere of “Real Steel” over the weekend, and he had nothing but rave reviews for both the film and its leading man. “It’s awesome. We’re just in postproduction right now. It’s incredibly exciting,” Durand said. “Robert is a very gracious, kind fella, and we had a great time [filming]. We had a really great time.” When asked what new sides of Pattinson’s acting abilities we’ll see in the film, Durand said we’ll see an edgier, more adult version of the “Twilight” star. “He’s got an edge to him in this film,” Durand said. “He did some really excellent work that I think he should be very proud of.” The “Real Steel” and “I Am Number Four” actor went on to say that given the subject matter and action in the plot, the film will have a more adult rating and that fans should be very excited to see it. “[It takes place] in present day, but it’s its own time and place,” he explained. “Mr. Cronenberg has such an amazing voice. I myself am just as excited, probably more excited, than anyone else to see it, just to see what he’s done with it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Cosmopolis.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Friday Box Office: Glee-ful Dianna Agron Falls Short Of Mean Mom January Jones In Battle Of The TV Blonds

Dianna Agron’s chances of being Glee ‘s first cast member to become a movie star hit a small snag Friday as her first major film, I Am Number Four , underperformed at the box office, leading Unknown , the Liam Neeson and January Jones thriller, to the number one spot. Critically panned cross-dressing comedy Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son had to settle for number three, barely beating out Just Go With It . Your Friday box office is here.

‘Unknown’ Leads Friday Box-Office

Thriller bags $6.7 million while ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ tumbles to sixth place. By Shawn Adler Diane Kruger and Liam Neeson in “Unknown” Photo: Warner Bros. Asking what movie kicked off President’s Day weekend by winning the Friday night box-office is like the start of a bad Abbott and Costello routine: It’s “Unknown.” Despite middling reviews , the Liam Neeson starrer about a man who awakens after a car accident to discover the life he thought he had has been taken away, topped all comers with $6.7 million on Friday from 3,043 screens. Expected to end at somewhere over $25 million for the four-day weekend, “Unknown” continues Neeson’s recent domination of the February box-office. The secretly badass star wowed audiences two years ago in “Taken,” which, after opening in February 2008, ended its run with $226 million worldwide. “I Am Number Four,” meanwhile, will have to settle for being number two. On Friday, the teen-targeted alien picture finished in second place with $6.2 million. The latest from director D.J. Caruso, and star Alex Pettyfer, “I Am Number Four” could still win the weekend with a strong Saturday bounce. Last week’s winner, the Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston starring “Just Go With It,” came in third place with $5.2 million. Rounding out the top five, new release “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son” and holdover “Gnomeo and Juliet” earned $4.8 million and $4.3 million, respectively. Which means America may have finally found a cure for Bieber Fever , as the doe-eyed one’s 3-D concert pic, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” toppled all the way from second to sixth place, earning just $3.8 million on Friday. Among Oscar hopefuls, “The King’s Speech” (seventh place) continued its impressive run. The presumptive favorite at the Academy Awards will pass $100 domestically this weekend. Anne Heche on Cedar Rapids, Religion, Midwestern Women and Turning Down Speed

Anne Heche is happy. Or relatively happy. At least that’s how she seems upon first meeting her — a brimming, enthusiastic counterpoint to her well-documented less happy times that you know will come up at some point in your conversation. Indeed, talking about past choices and decisions, she refers to herself as an “unguided soul” and expresses hope that she’s matured over the years. And while it’s impossible, over the short time we had discussing the intricacies of her new comedy Cedar Rapids , to make any grand conclusions of maturity, there’s definitely an energy level surrounding Heche that would be hard to simulate for a woman who wasn’t totally at ease with who she is — and who she was.

Bad Movies We Love: The Girl Next Door (2004)

Otherwise known as Your Honors Student Will Sacrifice His Livelihood For Porn . Holler, 2004! The Girl Next Door is one of the last horndog comedies to eschew parody and go for realism — but barely. It lives in a post-Shannon Elizabeth universe where the untouchable hottie (Elisha Cuthbert) has to be a porn star because all other options are exhausted/boring. How stupid! I’m game! And so is Timothy Olyphant, the I Am Number Four / Justified star, who plays a sleazy porn producer here. We hope to answer the following questions with today’s Bad Movie We Love: 1) Why do we like this scummy flick for oily masturbators? 2) Why is Emile Hirsch such an unconvincing loser? And 3) Most importantly: Why does Mr. Olyphant act like he’s still in Scream 2 ?

Creepy Old Lady Ellen DeGeneres Forces Ingenue To Strip As Audience Whoops And Cackles

So Alex Pettyfer stopped by Ellen this week to promote his movie, I Am Number Four , and the poor guy got badgered into taking off his shirt for his troubles. Now while I’m sure it was all in good fun and discussed to death beforehand by Ellen, her producers and Alex’s management, the poor guy looked mortified while he was doing such a creepy stunt. So, let’s try a little thought experiment shall we?

Friday Box Office: Green Hornet Has Sallow Opening Night, Dilemma Self-Destructs

On the weekend of the Golden Globes, a couple of prize turkeys were trotted out at the box office to little effect. Seth Rogen’s long-delayed Green Hornet opened at a weak number one, while Vince Vaughn’s Dilemma barely made a splash at number two. But hey, The King’s Speech opened wide at number four and did okay! Your Friday box office is here.

I am Number Four Extended Look: Now with More Slow-Motion

It looks like a teaser and a full trailer for the new teen-alien-thriller series I Am Number Four were not enough. Now we’ve got a new “extended look,” which seems like it should show us a new angle of the movie that those non-extended looks just couldn’t cram in. Right?
